Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* The final debate before the Wisconsin gubernatorial recall election got a little heated last night. On a related note, former President Bill Clinton will be in the state today, campaigning in support of Democrat Tom Barrett.
* Mitt Romney's campaign unveiled a new ad this morning, the third in its "Day One" series. In this spot, voters are encouraged to support the Republican because it will make them feel good.
* In New York, a Quinnipiac poll shows President Obama leading Romney by 25 points, 56% to 31%.
* In California, a USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll shows Obama up by 19, 56% to 37%.
* In the state of Washington, a new Strategies 360 poll shows Obama leading Romney by 11, while the state's gubernatorial race is much closer, with state Attorney General Rob McKenna (R) leading Rep. Jay Inslee, 43% to 39%.
* In Nevada's closely-watched U.S. Senate race, appointed Sen. Dean Heller (R) has a narrow lead over Rep. Shelley Berkley (D) in an NBC/Marist poll, 46% to 44%.
* Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) appears to be cruising to an easy re-election bid this year.
* And Pennsylvania is known as a traditional, competitive battleground state, but the Romney campaign appears to be focusing its attention elsewhere, assuming the Keystone State will remain "blue" in 2012.

So the Obama campaign is leading in California, New York and Washington. Anybody surprised? Actually come to think of it, an 11% deficit in a state as blue as Washington isn't too bad for the Romney campaign. In turn, it would be interesting to see Pres Obama's standing in Texas and Georgia.
Hi Rachel, I'd like to hear your comments about Jay Townsend's outrageous statement that "[someone should] hurl acid in the faces" of women Democratic senators. That is the most outrageous language anyone could use and the main stream media has been silent about it. Townsend is the spokesman for Rep. Nan Hayworth (R-NY) who is running for re-election.
Can you imagine the Corporate Owned Media outrage if it would have been a Democrat making that statement?
@maryoca....steve benen wrote this up three blog posts ago, scroll down the front page a bit to find it
Have you heard the one that went like this, "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun"?
I failed to notice the "outrage" at that comment by a US Senator obviously stirring and hoping for strife.
Oh, by the way, that was then Senator Barack Obama, June 13, 2008, Philly, PA.
GOPhers's say worst than that about Democrats. Deal with it , is election time and everyone seems to be going nuts
We should all be happy like Memory Isn't There Today (MITT). Just let the past slip away and never have to face another unpleasant memory. Let your mind become as clear of worries as a blank Etch A Sketch.
* Walker referred to "solving the state’s expected deficit by requiring public employees to pay more for their benefits and cutting their ability to bargain". Um, not to mention millions of Federal dollars in dreaded "stimulus" money? I hope Barret wasn't too close when the Gooberner's pants burst into flame...
* Day One, version three? Wow, this really is starting to sound like an ad campaign for Willard "Reversible Mittens" Rawmoney! How many "Days One" is he expecting to have?
* Pennsyltucky will stay true "blue", if I have anything to say about it (though considering how large a swath of the Commonwealth remains essentially "Alabama north", that's never easy)!
A nation of salesmen wants its Joe Isuzu, let's lie ourselves into a murder-suicide pact. The Repub-cons will slaughter America and kill themselves as a political party. Then they can get to the real goal: Restoring the Aristocracy.
Obama didn't use his magic wand, like George W. Bush, to make money out of nothing and give it all to the moronic rich. He didn't make jobs appear out of the air. He doesn't understand that the REAL AMERICANS are leeches.
We can only hope Clinton does a better job supporting Barrett than he just did "supporting" Obama.
i'll admit some surprise that romney isn't going to contest pa all that hard....trying to get to 270 without it makes their uphill climb even steeper
Makes me wonder if Mr. MittPuppet knows (or thinks he knows) something about PA that we don't know yet. GOP have some more "voter registration" rules? Purge? Keep us away from polls with vaginal probes - even with your eyes closed? What could it be?
Surely it couldn't be that they're just giving up?
Our illustrious "KeepYourEyesClosed" Guv is a sneak; he keeps out of the limelight (could it be because flubs like "KeepYourEyesClosed" remarks happen when he opens his mouth and the GOP machine isn't around to make his lips move?) and keeps his ops as stealthy as the CIA Black Ops guys? Sneaky snake. I don't trust him; I don't like him; I'm keeping MY eyes open and expecting the worst.
I expect it all depends on Wisconsin. If Walker (God forbid) triumphs, then we'll see what his plans are! Mr. GuvCEOCorbett is a follower; he follows what the other RePUGniCANTs do, but he's on a 7 minute delay!
So now I guess we can add Bill Clinton to the list of back stabbing surrogates for
the Obama campaign. Who next Chris Matthews?... Wait, he's already on the
list..
I wondered about him since he made that fairy tale remark
It is time for the US Attorney General to take a hard line with these Republican legislatures trying to implement voter suppression tactics. Stealing elections is a regular occurrence in banana republics. The United States is not a banana republic.
In November we are going to elect people to federal positions. So I would like to make a couple of suggestions to the US Attorney General to ensure Americans have the constitutional right to vote. The first thing he should do is issue arrest warrants for all legislators, in every state, that has enacted voter registration laws that will deny American citizens the right to vote in federal elections. This will not solve the immediate problem, but as these investigations wind through the legal machinations that is our justice system; the conspiracies and the conspirators will be ultimately identified. Co-operating defendents will take on a whole new meaning!
President Obama, under the emergency powers act, should commandeer for the November election every US Post office in a state with voter suppression laws. Anyone, that is denied a right to vote, should go immediately to the nearest post office and cast a ballot for all the federal offices on their state ballot. These would be manned by the postal workers. The entire process would be recorded. States could, I suppose attempt to challenge thi. Once it is determined that enough legitmate voters were denied their constitutional right to vote, it is more likely the state election itself would be voided.
Many of those served the arrest warrants will soon be serving the US government in a much different capacity. When they get out of jail they can move to a real banana republic!
Get that liar away from the children! The One I follow has him on His liar "registry." He also knows where are the sex offenders are, too. By the way, if we release some of these Potheads, these 100% Right Republicans are so scared of we might have room to keep sex offenders off the street.
