After the world got a look at him advocating for a national birther agency, former Michigan Congressman Pete Hoekstra told the conservative Mackinac Policy Conference that the whole birther discussion is just so ridiculous. There must be a term for this kind of response -- something like passive-aggressive, but I don't think that's quite it.
The Michigan papers describe the latest from Hoekstra this way:
The West Michigan Republican grew animated and loud as he defended remarks he made earlier this month at a Michigan tea party gathering, suggesting he would not have broached the topic if he had not been asked.
"This is an absolutely ludicrous discussion to be having four years after a presidential (election)," Hoekstra said at a near shout. "It is an absolute waste of time and energy. We have trillion dollar deficits. We have eight percent unemployment. We have a health care system that is collapsing. And somebody is asking about the birthing issue?"
It would be one thing if someone had asked about the "birthing issue" and Hoekstra had said only this:
Sure. I mean, I think -- you know, I think, throw something at me if you want, I think with this president, the book is closed, all right? It's kind of like, I hate to say it, but I think the debate's over -- we lost that debate, and we lost that debate in 2008, when our presidential nominee said, 'I ain't talking about it.' OK, I'm sorry.
But that was just the first part of his response. Hoekstra didn't stop at lamenting John McCain's decision not to join the birther cause; he suggested perpetuating the birther cause as part of the taxpayer-funded bureaucracy. He continued:
"But I do now believe that I'd like to establish a three-person office in Washington, D.C., OK -- knowing it, we'll go to five. But there's no reason why we should have this kind of question, you know, for the president of the United States. So that at any future election, all right, that someone would have to walk into that office, and prove that they meet the minimum qualifications to be president of the United States."
For the record, Hoekstra now says the office for the issue he considers so ludicrous could be staffed by one or two people -- that might count as austerity.

As Matt Yglesias would say, "You can't fake that kind of [beef-byproduct], it takes real conviction." Woo hoo! I "stole" that line already! That didn't take long...
And, btw, if anyone deserves a real "conviction", Hoekstra's not a bad place to start, eh?
And people actually voted for this guy? Would it be legal to institute IQ tests as a prerequisite to voting, if you can't pass the test then you shouldn't be allowed to vote, and for politicians running for office in addition to IQ tests there should be a thorough psychological work-up!
Ok, so this one bureaucrat is going to be able to decide who can become President? I'm guessing Pete hasn't thought this out to the point where this one bureaucrat decides some old white guy doesn't qualify. This should only apply to the candidates that he doesn't like.
I believe this is a simple case of psychological projection.

I like that.
Nobody would ever accuse this guy of being overly clear. Do you know what he wants? Beats the hell out of me.
And you know and I know that if they did make this 3 man committee, it would never again be used after 2012. Its only needed for the anti american socialist food stamp president that is intending to ruin our country . lol
Ok let's get this straight we're going to have an office in DC that does nothing but checks the citizenship status of people who are elected for office? What are they supposed to do the rest of the time? Oh wait can I have that job, a budget, and a coffee maker (Kurig perferred), and an internet connection.
Or maybe I should just run for congress as a republican they don't seem to do anything and NO is in my vocabulary. In fact I can say it in 3 or 4 different languages
Keep in mind, this is just for president, so you only have to do it every four years. Or maybe every time a "posse" decides to question the evidence on flimsy excuses for evidence.
Reason #54678661164 that Pete Hoekstra will not be replacing Debbie Stabenow, or anyone else, in this lifetime.
Hoekstra has been designated to round up the wingnuttery. At least until Palin resumes her role.
So who gets to nominate that sheriff in Nevada to this new post?
Why isn't this guy looking into Mittens Romney's five wives?!?
Hey, I'm no wifer, but enough people have raised this question that it needs addressing. Why haven't we heard about the other five Mrs. Romneys? What's he covering up? The marriage license he produced was an obvious photocopy!
(with apologies to Bill Maher)
Let the record reflect: John McCain was the first presidential candidate of the 2008 election that was sued in federal court by a white, Democrat attorney, over his "birther" qualifications, not Barack Obama.
Furthermore, nothing has been proven as to where and when Obama was born. A Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General study, entitled: BIRTH CERTIFICATE FRAUD OEI-07-99-00570 established a FINDING that a certified copy of a birth certificate is proof only that a birth occurred and was recorded.
What this means is that all the other information contained in Obama's two birth certificates must be proven the old fashion way, but a preponderance of evidence.
Even if we take Barack Obama's two Hawaiian birth certificates at face value, it would clearly demonstrate he is not an Article ll 'natural born' Citizen because his father wasn't an American citizen when Barack was born.
Mitt Romney has a similar problem...his father was born in Mexico to expatriated US citizen parents who gave up their US citizen to be allowed by Mexican authorities to colonize in Mexico.
By natural law, an Article ll 'natural born' Citizen is a person born a US citizen under the cloak of allegiance of the father. That is what De Vattel observed, and is still the natural law of inheritance. Allowing the courts to decide who is or who isn't a 'natural born' Citizen allows the government to create the 'ruling class' rather than our founding fathers and the Constitution.
