Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* It's election day in Arizona's 8th congressional district, home to a special election to fill Gabrielle Giffords' former seat. For Republicans, the race is about blaming President Obama; for Democrats, the race is about the GOP's opposition to Medicare and Social Security.
* President Obama's re-election campaign released a new ad this morning, once again highlighting Mitt Romney's failures as the one-term governor of Massachusetts. The spot will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
* Obama is also launching a series of events in Michigan, intended to remind voters in the state about his rescue of the American auto industry.
* In Pennsylvania, a new Quinnipiac poll in Pennsylvania shows Obama leading Romney by six points, 46% to 40%.
* In Arizona's Republican U.S. Senate primary, Rep. Jeff Flake falsely accused his opponent, Wil Cardon, of failing to file income taxes. The Flake campaign has since walked back the claim.
* In Hawaii's U.S. Senate race, for Gov. Linda Lingle (R) is not only launching television ads, her campaign has also taken over a digital cable channel that will focus exclusively on her Senate bid.
* And in Nevada, where party operations can be critical to success, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is putting his Democratic operation to work in support of Rep. Shelley Berkley's Senate campaign.

Where credit is due: Lingle got out in front of the birther garbage, had two state officials check the original "long-form" certificate and issue an official statement of its authenticity. From then on, the birther movement was complete idiocy.
Go, Barber! (Daughter is an intern.)
J Kelly is a real piece of work (to put it kindly).
Any published polling on Barber v Kelly? I haven't seen anything in the last few weeks. That means somebody is probably up a lot.
For Rachel:
“Decision 2012” - By Randy Carlton Hunsucker
Woke up one ‘morn in another land,
It was like the Divided States of Iran.
The Evangelic Church, ruling it was fate,
Said America was born a Christian state.
Snap, Crack! Goes the whip…
Bleeding hard from your lip.
Not this, not that, but living hypocrites,
Tricked supporters into thinking theocracy was a hit.
And, the new rulers prayed- as they held to their guns-
But, the people soon learned that life was no fun.
Snap, CRACK! Goes the whip…
Blood dripping from your lip.
The years went slowly by,
The Church’s rules multiplied,
Violations treated harsh,
Masses woke up to the farce.
SNAP! CRACK! Goes the whip…
Blood-drenched, stinging lip.
But, it was too, too late,
Having swallowed all the bait.
They saw they’d been deceived,
And, could not be relieved.
Snap, CRACK, go the whips,
Bleeding hard from their lips!
Writers note: A “Theocracy” is a government ruled by, or subject to religious authority. The most common modern examples are the Ayatollah’s rule over the brave Iranian people, or the Afghans who used to live under the Taliban.See More
If you stop at "that's Rmoney economics" it makes him own the onus people. "If it didn't work then.." is fluff, who does these for the campaign?I realize I may sound a little critical but who is scripting these, Michael or Kitty Dukakis? This is the future of the nation that we're talking about here team Obama.. Is it too much to request (on fine quality stationary) that you be a tad "terse", or are we still bending over for the GOP?
Candidate Obama needs to make his ads more simple. Honestly. The ads that have come out are much too complicated. As the saying goes, KISS (Keep It Simple Silly - yes, I know it's another word).
1) Get an Etch-A-Sketch (hmm, unless Romney has bought Ohio Art?)
2) Have Romney's portrait appear
3) Have Romney's Etch-A-Sketch picture say, "I like being able to fire people"
4) Have Etch-A-Sketch shake, dissolve, and new Etch-A-Sketch Romney shows up
5) New Etch-A-Sketch Romney says, "Corporations are people."
6) Have Etch-A-Sketch shake, dissolve, and new Etch-A-Sketch Romney shows up
7) New Etch-A-Sketch Romney shows up with sign, please insert $10 to continue
Wow, great ads. Really points out Obama's accomplishments AND gives the average uniformed voter the real issues of our country. This isn't an election for the President of high school. Although, considering the amount of time the average voter spends really really looking into the policies of the candidates, these may work. :)

Notwithstanding Skip's apparent sarcasm, that ad suggestion really does sound great to me. I think the campaign ought to hire you...
Okay, so Obama rescued the car industry. What about the other industries and sectors of our economy. Millions and millions of people are still out of work. Unemployment is still 8.2% and rising. Does this mean we have to reelect him? I'm not so sure.
by saving the auto industry obama saved my home state of ohio [and most of the rest of the rust belt as well....] lots of people have jobs in parts plants, restaurants, retail, etc etc because of the ripple effect of that decision.
in an effort to give equal time, i'll note that the willard as "etch-a-sketch" remark helped ohio arts; bottom line
as for the unemployment numbers, point your fingers at congress...especially the gop house
I understand that many businesses are not hiring because there is no demand. But there is another factor: they have been made to understand that they should not hire in order to rid us of Obama.
Obama has created 4.4 million jobs in 3 years; G W Bush created 3 million in 8 years. I never heard anyone moaning and groaning about Bush's abysmal record. No, only Obama should have been Superman and smothered the depression AND knocked out the GOP in Congress who would not lift a finger to help the unemployed as long as Obama is president.
Businesses are not hiring because they are scared of Obama Care, Overregulations, High taxations and Barack Obama himself. There is no business and consumer confidence, just full of uncertainties. If reelected, it would be more of the same.
I think your question should be directed more toward the people who actually create/introduce and pass the bills that could help our country, and not those who obstruct or hinder our progression.
I'll re-frame your question. Should we re-elect any congressperson or senator with unemployment still at 8.2% and rising?
If you review the first three bills of legislation introduced in the prior term of Congress (the 111th) or the start of President Obama's term in office, were any of them written by or introduced by President Obama? Were any of those three bills concerning jobs or employment of any kind? The answer is no.
Your concern should be directed at Congress and the Senate. If Congress and the Senate are running out from the meeting table or refusing to meet at all, then they are the problem.
The President can guide, negotiate, and mediate solutions (along with his party) to the alternate party, but he does not write or introduce any bill.
However, he does make the decision to sign the bill into law. So, did he rescue the auto industry? Yes, he signed the bill that became a law. He did so even when many people thought the idea foolish and wasteful of taxpayer monies.
It's funny, but for some reason, the first thing I thought of when reading your post was the Schoolhouse Rock episode of "I'm Just a Bill". And of course now, I cannot get the lyrics out of my head.
@Cindy
So, the faltering economies of Greece, Spain, India, and China have absolutely nothing to do with U.S. businesses and consumer confidence?
Vomiting out lines directly from the RNC playbook seems a rather weak rebuttal, but I have to give you high marks for hitting all of the RNC's whack-a-mole buttons. Excellent reverse double somersault half twist tuck dive.
As Rachel has said previously,
It really does explain a lot.
No Cindy, we don't, but I seriously hope you like you staying pregnant and in the kitchen!
I'm certain that if women weren't trying to get sooooo many abortions that the Congress would pass all kinds of jobs legislation even though, the government doesn't create jobs, Bain capital creates jobs!
Another little known factoid: Linda Lingle's new channel # (110 on Time Warner Cable) directly follows Fox on channel 109. Coincidence?
FLORIDA GOVERNOR SAYS HE MADE HIS CASE. HERE IS THE REAL TRUTH...225,000 notices were sent out over 70% were black and or Latino/a. One hundred of the 225,000 were illegals. Of that one hundred 50 Had voted illegally. There are 11,155,780 registered voters in Florida.
That means 1 out of every 2,231,156 registered voters were illegal. IS THIS GUY SERIOUS? For 50 people he is going to punish 225,000 honest citizen voters?
HELLO HOUSTON.....I THINK WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!
It's the way those on the right do things.
Dear Rachel, where do these people get all their money from?
