Let me see, Mr. Crapo = crap, Mr. DeMint = the greedy mint, Mr. Corker = is a corker, and Mr. Wicker = wicked. Yea sure sounds about right. ;)
Where's Rachel???
Probably either out on a story or killing innocent fish. Well, maybe not innocent, as such. Have you ever looked into a fish's eyes? So flat, so empty, so cold-blooded and slimy. It's a net or be netted world, boyo.
Exactly!! Please come back, Dr. Maddow!! Ezra is good...but you are fabulous!! Feel better soon!
No Rachel again???
No Rachel again???

Ezra, there is a good chance you and others have limited time remaining to win any debates with Rachel. I'd hurry.
The TRMS crew has come through, and Ezra brings new analyses and resources which are often overlooked. He looks comfortable in that chair... keeping it warm.
Didn't Lawrence O'Donnell sub for Rachel a lot?
Didn't Chris Hayes sub for Rachel a lot?
I have no memory of O'Donnell subbing, but I don't remember everything. I do remember Chris and Melissa doing a lot of subbing. If where you're going is that Ezra may someday get an MSNBC show of his own out of this, I think you're probably right.
hmm. I wonder if Ezra would have the stamina to sideline his passion for charts and graphs.
Bill said she had laryngitis Monday so I assume she is still sick. Bummer. But she has had a tough spring with book tour, primaries and toxic GOP news every night! Too many Racheless newsdays, though! Sad week! Feel better, Rachel!
Thanks Judith - I missed that part. I miss her so much when she's not there and I was wondering where she was!
Rachel
Ezra did a great job in your absence. Iwas intrigue by the show on 6-13-2012 when Ezra discussed the so called " Michigan Voter supression" portion. I am probably one of the few who does not feel that this should be an issue of any concern.
Listen the Republicans call for "Voter ID" in order to be able to vote. That is a noble requirement for US citizen and they should be commended for their patriotism....
Why don't the Democrates call their bluff and propose that all US Citizen obtain and carry a "National ID" which is not a work permit, a passport or a driver licence?
This ID will identify every person elligible to vote in the US in a more uniform manner instead of having only the republican controlled states be the focus of this noble act, the entire country will be brought in line with the Republican party effort. This National ID will be credited to the GOP.
I can guaranty you that the same GOP crying out for all these "voter ID" needs in all these states under GOP control, will be the first to oppose this act and so expose their true intention as we all know it...
Instead by complaining constantly about this "voter ID" effort the Democrates look foolish eventhough they seem to be defending the voter's right...
Thank you
My mom has been a dedicated voter all her life. She no longer drives or has a current ID. The nearest DMV is 20 miles from where she lives in another town. There is no bus route available.
Her social security number has NOT changed. Social Security numbers are the historical alternative identification for voter registration, considering all citizen information is tied to it.
BACK OFF my mom. She's having a hard enough time as it is without someone threatening to take her voting rights away.
I have a request:
{Note: Anyone who has Microsoft Excel can do this.}
I would LOVE to see you post a graph of of the Federal Budget Data that can be downloaded (Excel file)
http://www.cbo.gov/publication/42911
This file has Historic Budget Data from 1972 to 2011.
The second tab - TableF -1 - has Revenues, Outlays, Deficits, Surpluses, and Debt Held by the Public Since 1972
There are some blank rows between decades and blank columns that make inserting a graph a bit more complicated unless you delete them.
Insert a graph - of the Year, Revenues, and Outlays.
The Revenues line looks like a roller-coaster that chugged up a hill from 2004 to 2007 the leveled off in 2008 then plummeted down a "Big Down!!" [That is what I call the big drop at the start of a roller-coaster ride]
The Outlays line is linear from 2001 to 2008 - there's a tiny wiggle in there.
Continue the line past 2008 - either print out the graph and use ruler and pencil or insert a line shape and move it around.
What you will find is that the difference between this line and the actual Outlay line - in 2011 - is around $200 billion.
NOW - look at that graph and explain to me how anyone can rationally argue that OUT-OF-CONTROL government spending (Outlays) is responsible for Trillions of dollars of additional debt.
Other tabs break down spending further. The last tab - TableF-5 - breaks down the Mandatory Spending. This data shows that one of the categories that showed the biggest increase is Income Security, which "Includes unemployment compensation, Supplemental Security Income, the refundable portion of the earned income and child tax credits, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, family support, child nutrition, and foster care." These of course are things that must be (hence mandatory) when people qualify for them and are directly related to the massive job losses.
I missed the comment on air about Rachel being sick, and I'm sorry to hear that she is not feeling well. But, can I make a suggestion? If she is gone, and there isn't a note on the blog and there is just one little comment in a show...well, it's just disconcerting. So, sue me. I feel protective. I'm a mom -- an old one at that.
Rachel, I pick up a magazine to read, for CEO's, called Chief Executive on the cover the main story was Best/Worst States for Business, upon opening to the title pages read that an annual subscription is $198 US single-copy $33, in one story it states Even if we get a new president, I have no real confidence we can 'fix' things overnight. We have allowed our country to get under water, which is why the goverment is so dysfunctional. If any of us ran our companies like the goverment, we would all be in jail. Politicians can promise and deliver "our money" but, with no skin in the game it doesn't matter. Thus, the mess we are in now. Goverment is way too big and inefficient. Not to mention the complexity and over-regularions that plague our free market. they are also upset that there is only 8% of the President cabinet has private business sector experience. another statement It's clear that most states recognize they have an opportunity to compete by adjusting their tax and regulatory regimes, but above all what business leaders' attention is a cooperative attitude and a willingness to work with the private sector. "A good state is one that actively encourages competitive business, demands low relative taxes and has a highly educated workforce," all these CEO's are looking for is lower taxes and regulations.
Rachel, another story from Chief Executive, "The Great Retreat" Putting a great executive retreat together is hard work; but done well, the payoff is well worth the investment. also stated CEOs consider their role in arranging retreats an important task- something they consider well worth their time and energy. one CEO says "the goal of an executive retreat is to slow down so that you can speed up business." with all the talk about CEOs being job creators there main task is were they are going to spead their time at retreats.
Sorry to hear Rachel's sick. And here I thought she was on vacation! Vacation sounds better.
Ezra's doing a fine job. I like data. And graphs. Yeah, how about that global warming. And isn't our president giving a speech tomorrow?
A rumor I heard around here is, Rachel is at a secret Hawaiian Island Resort and was possibly sited body surfing. Or not . . .
Ezra is the guy I would want to cheat off of in school. Always does his homework. -A breaks his heart. Of course, I am not saying why I would know anything about copying over the smart kid’s shoulder. Ok , that didn’t come out right. . . . .
I love Ezra and think that he should have his own show. You can see his confidence building night after night. I do miss Rachel though.
I miss Rachel, too. SO have a heart, TRMS staff. Let us know how she is doing, especially if she doesn;t appear yet again tonight. A Rachel-less world is a scary place!!!
I assume the TRMS philosophy is to keep info about fill-in hosts as hidden as possible until the show actually begins. If they announced it prominently, they reason people would not bother tuning in. They are correct! And when people tune in and find Ezra or whoever in front of the camera, they reason a lot of them will keep watching. And they're probably right about that.
Even if my interpretation is accurate, it still feels dishonest and even contemptuous towards viewers and fans -- it makes me think this is all of a piece with the TRMS philosophy more generally of shading the truth in a partisan manner. I wish TRMS would stop acting this way.
