Late last week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) spoke at a conservative think tank to make a spirited case against public disclosure in the campaign-finance system. As far as the Republican Leader is concerned, there's nothing wrong with wealthy interests buying American elections -- the real scandal is a proposal to let American voters know who's doing the buying.
But that's not the only scandal. Kevin Drum noted what McConnell went on to say later in the day during a Fox News interview.
[T]he Senate's top Republican also accused the [Obama] administration of improperly using government agencies to exert political pressure.
"What they're trying to do is intimidate donors to outside groups that are critical of the administration, McConnell said. "The campaign has rifled through donors' divorce records. They've got the IRS, the SEC and other agencies going after contributors trying to frighten people and intimidate them out of exercising their rights to participate in the American political discourse."
Look, I realize that Republican members of Congress, just as habitual reflex, target President Obama with all kinds of over-the-top accusations. Those of us who remember the Clinton/Gore years know this isn't at all new. Ideally, folks like McConnell -- a man who's served in the Senate for more than a quarter of a century -- would leave garbage attacks to House backbenchers, but that would presuppose a level of decency and decorum that doesn't exist.
But McConnell's comments aren't just casual nonsense -- the Senate Minority Leader appeared on national television and accused the sitting president of impeachable offenses. If the Obama administration actually "rifled through" donors' private records and directed federal agencies to "go after" and "intimidate" political contributors, the scandal would rock the federal government, indictments would be issued, and the president would almost certainly be driven from office.
Indeed, the very crimes McConnell alleged actually occurred roughly four decades ago, and the result was one of the most monumental political scandals in American history.
And therein lies the point: Obama hasn't done any of this -- McConnell just made it up. For the leading Republican member of the Senate, casually accusing a sitting president of high crimes is just a way to kill a Friday afternoon in June.

McConnell has no spine. Easy to point the finger at someone else in order to hide behind the facade of privatizing what's left of our Democracy. Who holds Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Paul Ryan, Eric Cantor, Darrell Issa accountable to their purchased positions? Public Servants who swear to "Uphold the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic" need to look in the mirror. As written, the Constitution of the United States of America does not prescribe the obstructionism and gross miscarriage of their duties that they and the Supreme Court Justices are guilty of imposing upon the American Human Beings regardless of Political Affiliation. They are all a symptom of the worst displaced values and egocentrism this Country has ever witnessed.
So, McConnell believes that the only people who should contribute to the political process are rich donors. This is how I read this. The rest of the American Population doesn't need to know which Corporations are trying to rip us off. Are we supposed to respect the rights of the Kingmakers now. They have no respect for us. They have all our money, God knows what they did with it. This man will defend his rich buddies till the day he dies. He worships the ground they walk on. He worships money. He sold us out.

What's left of the Middle Class...the agenda is to rid this Country of what once was those who created the majority of the American Population. Any Sociological Scholar's contemporary studies will exhibit the rapid decline of the Middle Class since the Regan Administration. Contemporary Economic Statistics exhibit an increase of "working poor" and the truly impoverished. The best way out...Barter for goods and sevices. That's where upward mobility began, its where it will find its rooted value...not in the greenback but in quality of life. How we redefine that will dictate survival. In a Man Made and Natural Disaster those with money will have nothing to spend their wealth upon. Those who know how to survive will work the earth, plant the seeds and harvest the goods and assist those who will exchange with them. Interpret that anyway you want. Wealth is not determined within monetary means. Its what we have grown dependent upon. Through our "elected officials" our resources have been sold out from under us. Our Farmlands have been asphalted over for the foundations of International Billionaire property investors.
I look forward to planting the seeds that I am collecting or at least handing them down to the next generations. All we need are some jackhammers to plow through the cement and the walls that would divide us. So, I guess for now we just sit and wait while the political parties in this country implode. McConnell once again proves that the GOP mindset is that they are completely self-reliant, responsible and free, and yet are somehow never responsible for their own actions and are always, always the "victim."
I think it's a crime that these republicans want to throw the kitchen sink at the duly elected president (and us) to stop the people from having their agenda in order to put the agenda of big money first.

I really wish we'd start bringing legal consequences to people like McConnell who say whatever they want. We as citizens rely on the media and people in responsible positions to give us information. If most of what we are getting is lies, this is criminal. There are laws on the books against fraud, treason acts and on and on. Why did he call it that? I believe there was a trick in the trick-le down, it actually tickled up. By borrowing a record amount of cash, Reagan gave tax breaks to the wealthy and the middle class was left paying the bill, right u into the Clinton administration which gave us a three trillion dollar surplus (And they call the Democrats tax and spend? we should start calling them borrow and spend conservatives.) now what so astonishing to me is that the GOP did it to conservatives,moderates and liberals alike. Do you know that some of the workers at those plants that Romney devastated were Republicans also? Do you think for one minute Romney cared about them?
Now he is going to do to the United States what he's done for so long, "make money for my partners. Who are his partners now? Sheldon Adeleson, The Koch Brothers, Donald Trump and Wall Street. That's not the worst of it. All regulations and the departments that enforce them will be ended. we will lose protections especially the one that protect consumers. The GOP has been stripping public education, then when they brought it to a point of poverty and ineffectiveness, they cry foul our schools are failing let's stop throwing money into the learning pit. They caused the damage and then say, look what it has become. They want us to pay for our children's entire education or home school. if you don't do one or the other, you'll end up in jail. and then with the prisons privaitized, you will become their slaves in there, they can set you up and extend your stay and since they have the gold they will make the rules. They can keep you in jail for the balance of your life as slave labor to manufacture goods at less than minimum wage. They have this vision all laid out. I've seen this before where the peasants were told "let them eat cake" But it won't be cake this time, it will be let them ear dung.
