Complaining about President Obama's new immigration policy, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) said yesterday the move will make it more "difficult" to pass a comprehensive reform package. Since reform efforts are impossible in this Congress anyway, it wasn't much of a complaint.
But Boehner added something else that struck me as interesting.
"Where's the president's immigration plan? Where does the president stand on this issue? Instead of campaigning all the time, maybe he ought to come back to Washington and go back to work," Boehner said.
It was an odd thing to say. If the House Speaker wants to know where President Obama's immigration plan is, he can type "President Obama's immigration plan" into the Google machine and, wouldn't you know it, one of the first results is President Obama's immigration plan. It's 29 pages long, written in easy-to-read language, and it's been online since May 2011.
Maybe Boehner isn't much of a reader? Well, Obama also delivered a detailed speech, outlining his immigration plan, last summer in Texas. The Speaker can watch the video.
When Boehner asks, "Where's the president's immigration plan? Where does the president stand on this issue?" it's disconcerting because it suggests the Speaker doesn't just disagree with Obama's approach; it suggests the Speaker doesn't understand that Obama's approach exists.
What's more, I feel like this sort of thing comes up all the time, with folks demanding Obama produce plans he's already unveiled.
Mitt Romney recently complained that the president refuses to present a jobs plan, conveniently overlooking the president's presentation of a detailed jobs plan. The New York Times' Thomas Friedman complained last November that Obama hadn't put forward a plan for debt reduction, apparently unaware that the administration published a detailed, 80-page report, outlining exactly what the White House supports. Officials even prepared fact sheets and summaries for more casual readers.
Now Boehner is under the impression that Obama's immigration plan is a well-kept secret, despite the fact that it's been publicly available for over a year.
Obama's critics realize the White House has a website, don't they?

The President will have to inscribe his plan in the bottom of a bottle for Boehner to find it.
No...even that won't do it. What people failed to understand is: when they say the President has not come up with any policy on jobs or immigration, or debt reduction, etc, what they meant is "The President has not come up to support the policy on jobs or immigration, or debt reduction, etc THAT THEY WANT HIM TO SUPPORT."
Their God (Grover Norquist) already state openly and plainly what they want the President to do: "We don't need a president to tell us in what direction to go... We just need a president to sign this stuff. We don't need someone to think it up or design it....Pick a Republican with enough working digits to handle a pen to become president of the United States."
Put a trained chimpanzee in the White House and they (the Republican Congress) will work on getting rid of the term limit for the seat.
... that the Department of Truth (aka the media) will henceforth report as fact that there is no Administration policy. And the Public saw what was reported, and it was so.
Boehner
What are you smoking and did you bring enough to share?
I especially like the part where he demands that Obama stop campaigning for re-election. I really expect that to become a thing. Republicans have already flirted some with the idea that it is somehow improper for Obama to trying to get re-elected, and I think they'll be giving it serious tongue before the summer is over. My only reason for thinking that is the idea is so freakishly stupid that Republicans can't help but fall in love with it.
MM
If I could vote for your post more than once I would. lol!
Thanks. And thanks for not noticing the abomination "to trying to get re-elected". (Seriously, brain? That's how you serve me?)
What's disturbing is that people hear them say these things and then believe them. When I hear lies like this, it reflects on the people speaking them, and that reflects on their integrity and character.
Well, after all, everyone knows he's just an empty suit affirmative action baby who just goes around the country reading empty rhetoric off his teleprompter. How can he possibly have a plan on anything? To those who really understand how those people really are, it's just not credible to contend that he has all these long, sophisticated plans that he's submitted to Congress repeatedly only to have them undermined by conservative putative members of his own party or outright ignored or rejected by the 2010 Republican majority in the House and filibustered (and what is this "filibuster" thing you guys keep talking about anyway? Never heard of it) in the Senate.
And besides, everyone knows he had a majority in the House and an absolute, iron-clad filibuster-proof majority in the Senate for two whole years during which there was nothing much happening in the nation and the world requiring action. If he had all these so-called plans, why weren't they passed then and why didn't we achieve absolute utopia by the November 2010?
"It was an odd thing to say. If the House Speaker wants to know where President Obama's immigration plan is, he can type "President Obama's immigration plan" into the Google machine and, wouldn't you know it, one of the first results is President Obama's immigration plan. It's 29 pages long, written in easy-to-read language, and it's been online since May 2011."
Nope. Not odd. Republicans know people don't pay attention. So when Boehner says this, he knows the people who hear it, aside from a few political junkies, will assume Obama hasn't had any ideas on the subject.
EastAsia is at war with Oceania. EastAsia has always been at war with Oceania. EastAsia will always be at war with Oceania.
Until next week when the past, present, and future will be erased and EurAsia will be at war with Oceania. ...
this is what bothers me, the lying. over and over until your uncle Ted says: "well i heard Obama doesn't have a plan". that's all poor old uncle Ted heard night after night on the 6:00 o'clock news so it's hard to fault him completely.
what i fail to understand is why the MSM does that. it's not due to the fairness doctrine. it's not that all media is fox news so why don't CNN, ABC and NBC either not air things they (should) know are lies or say: "Today the Speaker of the House said something that is demonstrably false. and here he is saying it."
Not only will the President have to inscribe his plan in the bottom of a bottle, he's going to have to "remind" them and take their hands and show them where, on the internet he has it posted - that is if he knows how to use the computer. Better yet, he should just dig thru all the paperwork they are "holding" and show him personally - in front of a television. Then, after that is done, he'll have to refer to this time frame when he is on his re-election campaign (when asked).
I wouldn't be surprised if I hear a person complaining that Obama has not presented a jobs package even though he addressed a joint session of Congress earlier this year regarding a jobs bill...
Wingnuts say that all the time. Fox says that all the time.
I'm reminded of the trailer for the TV show the mentalist where the main character states, "There is no shuch thing as a psychic. I'm just paying attention. Are YOU paying attention?"
Not only do the Obama critics not seem to be aware of the White House web site, they seem to forget that there is a vast library of video tapes that reveal that in the not too distant past, they were clearly stating exactly the opposite of what they are now saying and were, in the past, in virtually total agreement with Obama.
So to the voters of America -- Are YOU paying attention?
The White House has a website? Is that one of them dubee-dubee-dubee things? Is that part of the leftie internets?
Apparently if it doesn't exist between Genesis and Revelation, it doesn't exist.
Obama's critics are well aware that the Administration has a website. They're just betting that their base doesn't, so when they lie and ask "where's the President's plan on (insert issue here)?" they'll get away with it.
Why do they assume that? Because it works far, far more often than not.
Their base watches Faux nooze , goes to Faux nation Drudge and RedState (and occasionally troll here) That is their world and their reality .
Facts need not apply
I totally agree. They spout out lies and half truths, knowing it will fall on the willing ears of their ilk and that there is little chance no one will be there to refute the lies or state the actual facts and cite sources. Bonehead and his ilk have gotten away with this for far too long. Call them out !! Where are the reporters ? We need more of Rachel and Ed, correcting the outright lies. Call them all out.
Maybe the real question to be asked is where is John Boehner's and Mitt Romney's brains are. They are so quick to criticize the President, and yet Mitt Romney has dodged every question he has been asked on weather he would keep President Obama's Immigration plan , which is a good policy or not. What are Mitt Romney's plans?, we haven't heard anything on his plans if he is elected on a host of topics.
He REFUSES to do national talk shows. He refuses to answer direct questions. He refuses to have real reporters at his dog and pony shows. He refuses to address real issues. He only speaks in sound bytes. WHO in their right mind would vote for someone who refuses to respect the general public and answer questions. As Chris Matthews says, " he has answered a lot of these questions by how he refuses to answer."
I encourage all people to read Mitt Romney's immigration plan (yep, that's what he is calling it- a plan - although he may wish to look up the definition of the word plan). http://www.mittromney.com/issues/immigration I think it would be beneficial to the re-election of President Obama :-)
When Boehner and company say that Obama doesn't have a plan, all they mean is that Obama doesn't have a plan they like. Which isn't the same thing, of course, but to the GOP faithful, it might as well be.
Obama didn't have a plan he had a PLOY
Was that supposed to be wry and witty? If so, it failed.
Sure, Bober; a ploy. Just a ploy that every independent analysis said would take the unemployment rate down and create millions of jobs. That's in contrast to the Republican job "plan" that no independent analysis claimed would do anything to the unemployment rate or create any significant number of jobs. In fact, the call to cut regulations would almost certainly kill jobs.
Ploy? Nope.
We all ought to send Mr. Boehner e-mails with a link to the plan in it.... that might help him find what he's looking for. :)
Maybe they should just look at the 2010 legislation that couldn't get out of committee in the SENATE...or just watch Jon Stewart from last night where FOX tried to edit the President's comments.
one day, maybe the republicans will come up with a plan of their own that the country can live with before i close my eyes for good.

poor little guy
it must suck to be so devoid of brain power as to be able to be conned by newsmax
So reading and watching MSNBC isn't the same as brainwashing??
Look at yourself your a Rachel Maddow fan... What a joke she is.. she can't see anything on either side of her head she so obsessed and hypnotized
by LIBERAL tunnel vision.. and in love with the Marxists policies of OBUMMER
I dare you to explain, in your own words, what Marxism is and how Obama is one.
Don't feed the trolls, folks.
http://www.studentnewsdaily.com/conservative-vs-liberal-beliefs/
"America has been moving in this sad direction for decades. No, not under the 'Marxist' label, or any of those other nasty words of yesteryear, like '“socialism' or 'communism' or 'collectivism.' They’ve all been carefully replaced by warm-and-cuddly terms like 'fairness,' 'economic justice,' 'redistribution,' 'progressivism' and... 'spreading the wealth...'
"The spirit of socialism has taken root and flowered spectacularly in America, especially in all of our elite, idea-generating institutions like education, the news and entertainment media, and, of course, government. The original American spirit...has progressively been displaced by the spirit of dependency and helplessness, of perpetual grievance and victimization, and most of all, of envy and resentment. All of which cries out for ever bigger government."
you right wingers want government to be large enough to control the reproductive choices of all women
of course, if you knew anything, you'd know that the rolls of fed govt employees has shrunk under Obama after almost doubling under Bush
LOL so WRONG you guys love to spin NUBMERS
Republicans love the military and want to increase spending. Republicans love the "private" defense industry and spend more on it. Republicans love the he-man fossil fuels pollution industry and love to give tax breaks and subsides in this part of the energy market.
The military is Socialism. Providing stimulus to the defense industry is Keynesianism. Awarding subsidies and tax breaks to the fossil pollution industries is picking and choosing winners in the market place.
Republicans are Keynesian Socialists picking and choosing winners in the market place.
"...the original American spirit" didn't let women vote and had not problem buying, selling, raping and beating individuals with different skin color. Thems the facts.
I'm proud to be an American, but I'm not going to claim that we can't be better. We most certainly can, and it starts with recognizing that "we the people" isn't about "us" vs. "them."
The Immigration Ploy
"President Obama's latest political ploy -- granting new 'rights' out of thin air, by Executive Order, to illegal immigrants who claim that they were brought into the country when they were children -- is all too typical of his short-run approach to the country's long-run problems.
"...his Executive Order is good only as long as he remains president.... People cannot plan their lives on the basis of laws that can suddenly appear, and then suddenly disappear, in less than a year. ...Like so many other Obama ploys, his immigration ploy is not meant to help the country, but to help Obama. (as we all know) This is all about getting the Hispanic vote.
1. There is no executive order. There was simply an announcement of a change in policy in how deportation proceedings are prioritized.
2. The executive branch has, and has always had, the power to decide the order in which administrative proceedings of any kind, including deportation proceedings, are prosecuted.
3. The executive branch has, and has always had, the discretion to determine how to allocate finite resources to a caseload that exceeds the capacity of the prosecutorial resources appropriated, and allocated, by Congress. This discretion includes deciding that certain types of proceedings simply should not occur. The law--specifically the Administrative Procedure Act, which is an act of Congress-- requires only that there be a rational basis for the executive branch's action.
4. If Congress wants the executive branch to deport people who were smuggled into the country as children and who have become decent, hardworking people who are culturally American and positively contributing to society, all it has to do is find the twenty or thirty billion dollars that would be necessary to prosecute very single illegal alien in America. Because the alternative is to pass a law that specifies that these kids are given greater or equal priority for deportation with violent criminals and/or people caught at the border, or who enter illegally as adults. Is that really what you're for?
5. If you aren't willing to do that, or to pay the taxes necessary to expand the deportation process to cover every single illegal, then STFU.

As if Newsmax were a credible source of anything at all. We all know the moron behind that organization. It might as well be named "Trumpmax."
The fact of the matter is no matter where it came from IT'S THE TRUTH!!!!!
The Republicans, when they talk like this, are relying on their base of voters to have the attitude of "Hey, yeah! I haven't seen his plan spelled out for me, so it doesn't exist! Obama must be useless!"
Of course these are the same people who make a point of never listening to or reading what the President says, so it's a self-fulfilling prophecy for them. A very stupid one.
A LIBERALS BELIEVE A woman has the right to decide what happens with her body. A fetus is not a human life, so it does not have separate individual rights. The government should provide taxpayer funded abortions for women who cannot afford them. The decision to have an abortion is a personal choice of a woman regarding her own body and the government must protect this right. Women have the right to affordable, safe and legal abortions, including partial birth abortion. THE Liberal way = MURDER
A CONSERVATIVE BELIEVES Human life begins at conception. Abortion is the murder of a human being. An unborn baby, as a living human being, has separate rights from those of the mother.Oppose taxpayer-funded abortion. Taxpayer dollars should not be used for the government to provide abortions. Support legislation to prohibit partial birth abortions, called the “Partial Birth Abortion* Ban”
(*Partial Birth Abortion: the killing of an unborn baby of at least 20 weeks by pulling it out of the birth canal with forceps, but leaving the head inside. An incision is made in the back of the baby’s neck and the brain tissue is suctioned out. The head is then removed from the uterus.)
Conservatives believe in letting an innocent child live
Liberals believe there is absolutely nothing wrong with MURDERING that innocent child.
Until you can debate honestly and stop substituting the word "child" when you mean "zygote", you will continue to be ridiculed as not having a clue.
I love how Liberals always have to use words like "zygote" to justify the fact that they support the murder of an innocent child.
I love how Conservatives always need to use medically inaccurate terms and rhetoric so they can justify trying to control a woman's decisions over her own body.
Really, calling a zygote a 'child' is like calling an acorn a tree. The potential is there, but they won't be one and the same for quite a while.
Bober - federal tax dollars cannot be and are not used to fund abortions. And we liberals understand that and are okay with it. Get a clue.
OK I believe that...Just about as much as you would believe me if I told you I love the pain of a huge boil on my ass. that...
Just as I believe Eric Holder and OBUMMER didn't know a damn thing about FAST AND FURIOUS... EVOKE executive privilege ( Fifth Amendment)
Perhaps tyhe Presidents actions will get him the Hispanic vote; however, the point is that President Obama has done something to address the circumstances he has been presented with. John Boener as Speaker of the House has not been very vocal about actually putting forth any substantial legislation in his tenure as Speaker of the House; if he had put forth any worthy piece of legislation he would have a point, but since he has not he is merely playing politics and is not a responsible leader in the House.
"...maybe he ought to come back to Washington and go back to work," Boehner said."
Well John if the House stayed in session for longer than 1 week at a time and wasn't so busy holding press conferences whining - you might have seen "the plans" the President sent you all!
This last round of evasive, innocuous comments by Romney confirms my suspicion that he's just a wooden dummy right up there with Mortimer Snerd. And we all know who the ventriloquists are.
Boehner knows perfectly well that Obama has a plan. His question is intended to raise doubts in others' minds, thus (hopefully, in his mind) eroding support for Obama. It's just another spin ploy.
It's not spin. It's intentional misinformation.
Let's start calling it what it is. A LIE ! Liar, Liar , pants on fire. It is an intentional lie stated to mislead any who hear it.
