Today's edition of quick hits:
* The latest step in a larger farce: "A House committee voted Wednesday along party lines to cite Attorney General Eric Holder for contempt.... The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted 23-17 to favorably report a contempt resolution against Holder to the full House, which could take up the resolution and vote to advance it. "
* Afghanistan: "A suicide bomber killed 21 people including three U.S. soldiers at a checkpoint in a packed market in eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday -- the third assault targeting Americans in as many days."
* Who won in Egyptian elections? Stay tuned.
* Something resembling progress in Greece, where officials "ushered in a new government on Wednesday that will put it back at Europe's bargaining table, ending a seven-week leadership vacuum that had destabilized this already fragile nation and cast a shadow over the euro zone's future."
* A case worth watching: "The Supreme Court could give Citizens United a second look this month as it decides whether to take up a lawsuit against the state of Montana, which wants its century-old state law restricting corporate influence in elections to stay in place."
* To put it mildly, the Romney campaign does not want to talk about immigration policy -- at least not today.
* Drone arithmetic: "Last month, a 'senior administration official' said the number of civilians killed in drone strikes in Pakistan under President Obama is in the 'single digits.' But last year 'U.S. officials' said drones in Pakistan killed about 30 civilians in just a yearlong stretch under Obama. Both claims can't be true."
* And I'm delighted to see The American Prospect, which was on the verge of closing up shop, will survive. (Full disclosure: I blogged for the Prospect in 2006, and have written a few article for the magazine since.)
Anything to add? Consider this an open thread.

Over at the Rural Blog, another example of how tea partiers define government waste as anything that doesn't benefit their district:
Actually, Steve, both "3" and "0" are single digits!
More seriously, civilian casualties are tragic and only one of the most obvious reasons armed conflict of any kind should be a last resort. Still, even assuming 30 casualties of "collateral damage" in a yearlong stretch suggests fairly impressively tight targeting. Perhaps someone could remind us how many tens of thousands of civilian casualties and tens of thousands more refugees resulted from the invasion of Iraq... on false pretenses?
;-)
When the GOP party of "no" eliminates the sittting admin in 1 term at any cost, deports and restricts democratic hispanic, black minority voters and unions power bases are eliminated from the middle class and achieves complete political control of taxpayers with corporate greed and lower wages by eliminating all workers rights and earned benifits. we will have achieved a "socialistic" single party republic gov with a elite 1% " plutocratic aristocracy" in total control , seems george lucas made a space movie illustrating the rise of the republic from poor oppressed rebellious disenfranchised civiliian workers struggling to overcome the established gov, to the far right" dark side". what a great new script,
NEW YORK -- A conservative women's group on Wednesday launched a $6 million ad campaign in presidential battleground states criticizing President Barack Obama's health care reform law.
The 60-second ad from Concerned Women for America features a family physician, Ami Siems, warning that patients may be denied care under the new law and might not be able to choose their own doctor. Siems previously appeared in ads criticizing the health care reform proposal sponsored by another conservative group, Americans for Prosperity, in 2009 when the plan was being considered by Congress.
"Everyone agreed we needed reforms, but this new health care law just isn't fixing things," Siems says. "President Obama promised my patients that they could keep me. But what if because of this new law I can't keep them?"

They are airing this in iowa also , it is disturbing to watch , 1 min is actually a mini infomercial , all of it is a bold face lie , if I call the ACLU , and contact the FEC and FCC , in 4 years we will get justice , maybe
My supreme court says if I have the Internet, I can find the actual truth , so this gives everyone the right to spend millions and lie to me and a million other people , ....
For instance, a person works all day , but does not have Internet access , they must go find a library that has it , then , if they can manage to find that library, it must be open when the person is not working , was all this included in CITIZENS UNITED?
And are their any presidents set for free speech propaganda infomercials , that dis-inform millions? Besides nazi Germany? IMO there is no reason America can not look to European laws to make sense of all of this
Rachel, are you keeping track of the lynching that is being done to Dr. Anne Neuhaus by the Kansas mob? She was on your show right after the Teller assassination. Her situation is growing more serious by the day. This is no longer a state. It is now "Brownbackiastan."
Hi Rachel,
I am enjoying reading Drift very much, and when reading the chapter about Reagan I remembered a story from the time of his second term. I am a Los Angeles professional musician and I played with a very popular band. We were invited to play in the homes of and for the events of very prominent people, including for Reagan at the Reagan Library. On one occasion the band played (unfortunately I was not present, but heard about it the next day from the guys) at the Library for an event honoring Margaret Thatcher.
Ronald Reagan got up and gave a long speech honoring Mrs. Thacher and when he got to the end of the speech, not realizing that he had just read it, he started over and read the whole thing a second time! And he was still president! SCARY!
Anyway, keep up the wonderful work!
Eric Holder...AG's in front of congress always reminds me of Alberto "I don't recall" Gonzales who simply didn't remember 71 times any suspicious events taking place in his own department. He should have gotten his own star outside Grauman's Chinese Theater for that beautifully executed piece of performance art.
He should have done time for it.
"Any fine that would begin to express my contempt for this Congress would at least
triple the National Debt."
