That "advertisement" for Exxon Mobile, doesn't help your credibility, Rachel.
Anyway, I found your story on guns and the Holder story, amazing. Do you have a written version of that?
Proof in fact that the absolute corrupt are so insane, they actually believe their manufactured fantasies in order to protect their own selfish interests. It has in fact become the Medical Definition of Delusional with Severe Personality Disorder when describing the gross manipulation of fact by the "GOP" (if they can collectively be referred to as.) and their gun slinging fear mongering extremists. Certainly their behavior has exhibited as deviant, uncivilized and paranoid. Demanding people to literally "throw bricks" knowing when that is not civil disobedience and serves to facilitate violence with the possibility of innocents being hurt or losing their lives. The seeds of hatred do not resolve anything. Look at Gabriella Giffords and the eight year old who lost her life because she thought she was learning about how politics works (or doesn't work.) in our Country. Sarah Palin's comments "placing Democrats in the crosshairs" exhibited no level of public responsibility, concern, civility or accountability whatsoever. Did Sarah Palin ever contact Rep. Giffords after her catastrophic shooting? According to her husband, "No." That should inform the public of the character of this current Republican Mess that used to represent the Constitution as it was written. They have made a mockery of our Democracy and our Constitution to perpetuate their own wealthy interests and Lobbying future.
Hello Rachael. My name is Rick, and I've watched your show since day one and considered you might possibly be the best new Political commenter I'd seen. But something happened as you seem to have had a stroke or something. It appears you either think that your audience isn't as informed as you, or you are a complete moron. In regards to your absurd, johnny come lately report on Fast and Furious ...I've seen some asinine reporting before, but tonight you became the plum bob of dumb. And I liked you, and your show. But after tonight, I've completely lost faith in your ability to perform the job of a professional journalist. In fact, you lowered yourself so far into the partisan cesspool of the terminally stupid, I couldn't believe my eyes or ears. I really feel sorry for you now.
Either your staff is setting you up for this years award for the Dumbest Hour on Cable News, or you've changed your meds lately. Let me get to the point. Your assessment of Fast and Furious was pure comedy. Rachel, you were so far off from reality on this one you might as well been on Mars for the last two years., I now understand WHY you've never, ever, related one ...not one, moment of reporting on what most who have followed this debacle since Jan 2010, consider a contender to Watergate, if not worse. It's embarrassingly simple. You don't have a clue. And if the latest developments are any indication, you might as well apply for a job as Mcdonalds clown as you looked like a perfect candidate tonight.
I hope the parents of Agent Terry saw your program. They need a good laugh, hearty enough to make them puke. You see Rachel, your nauseating partisan spin on F&F made a mockery of his death, and the deaths of hundreds of Mexican citizens. And that Ms Brilliant is what's at stake here. Accountability for murder. Period. Frankly you made a fool of yourself Rachel, and I don't like watching fools unless they entertain my kids at Mcdonalds. I'm betting a lot of other people don't either.
Rick,
I saw the segment in very different light than you, obviously.
You seem to be implying that the segment in some way was defending the Fast & Furious program. I strongly disagree and think that it in NO WAY made a mockery of the death of Agent Terry or the Mexican citizens!
I have never heard ONE WORD from ANYONE (right OR left) that thought the F&F program - or the similar programs started during the Bush administration - was anything other than a deadly disaster!
I see the Republicans pursuing the investigation as aggressively as they have been - in the way they have been - for purely political gain.
We can argue about whether this effort is worthwhile or purely partisan.
Stepping back a bit, it sounds like this program was an effort to get information that could trace where the weapons were coming from that armed the Mexican criminals who are responsible for so much blood shed and terror in that country and along the border.
So my question is where do things stand with this issue? What is being done - by the ATF, the Justice Department, whatever other agencies are involved. I never hear anything about what is being done to prevent more loss of life.
Finally, I do not live in Louise Slaughter's District (but am very near). Her office was the first one that Rachel listed that had a window broken. I remember being shocked when it was reported and more than a little afraid about what was happening in my country.
How can I get a copy (video tape) of the 6/20 show! I want to send it to a relative.
Video Tape? Transcripts and the website report of the "Rachael Maddow" Show can be emailed with permission.
It is actually stupid when you think about Republicans saying the Democrats want to get rid of guns. Since it is really impossible to get rid of guns even if the Democrats wanted to get rid of guns. Because a black market would just spring up so fast and guess what for to sell guns. So the best anybody could ever do with guns is to have some regulations for gun safety and that nobody is killed by senseless gun violence. Republicans are being as stupid as usual, but just using the excuse of guns so they can get votes.
Rachel - what you might also point out is the right's fear of the "slippery slope" ... that if Obama enacts one piece of gun control, that will lead to even MORE control. But what you should point out, is that the "slippery slope" has been going in the OTHER direction for years ... clips holding 30 rounds (Gabby Giffords) as apposed to 12 ... the assault weapons ban not being renewed ... guns now being legal in Ohio bars (and other places) ... the increased power of the NRA over the years ... etc.
Rachel I love you!
Can you post the chart about the wealth distribution?
I found the chart by googling wealth distribution bar graph - Mother Jones has it.

Just watch Spartacus! Just have sex in the arena.
Sorry, not referring to you but, most wayward thinking people.
How can I get a copy of the Who's Got The Money chart?
Please post that groovy colorful graph showing income perceptions and realities from the 6/20 show. It's your next best graph....
Looking for the income distribution chart but I can't find it. If you are also looking for stuff like that, check out A-Hole-In-My_head blog for similar information & income chart

The famous "Vulture Chart" but expanded to go back much further.
Oh - DANG! - we are in trouble!!
Great show.
Congratulations!! You managed to get through the entire segment on Fast and Furious without mentioning that the reason Holder is facing contempt of congress is for not complying with requests for information. You also didn't even touch on the subject of executive privilege asserted by President Obama. Most offensive was you failed to even mention border agent Brian Terry who was killed with a weapon which made it across the border. You can play the right-wing conspiracy card all day long, but are you suggesting it is unreasonable that Congress investigate a killing that resulted from a botched gun tracking scheme? Is it also your contention that Holder does not need to comply with requests for information from Congress? Both AG Holder and President Obama are on record claiming no knowledge of the program other than what they read in the newspapers. They clearly didn't learn about it on MSNBC since it has scarcely gotten a mention in the 16 months that the investigation has been going on. Holder retracted that statement a year later. It sounds as though there are inconsistencies in Holder's statements and refusing to comply with requests for information seems a little suspicious. The assertion of executive privilege by the President also looks suspicious. Almost Nixonian. Wouldn't you say?
Congress is totally useless, in bamboozling the American people and
wasting time performing BS exercises with narrow minded prejudices (acting
worse than a lynch mob). It would be nice if the Job Bill or Postal Reform got
that kind of attention. Don’t get me wrong I feel sad for the family of Border
Patrol Agent Brain Terry but, did his family think he was in a safe job with no
risk or what? I remember when Pat Tillman's family wanted to find out what really happened to their son…have they found out anything? Let the dead bury the dead, dead is dead! Congress you got the information so, let’s move on. (R.I.P.)
I will be very interested in reading the final report that is issued by the Justice Department.
{Just a style comment. Why do people just string everything together in one paragraph. It is hard to read. I almost didn't make the effort.}
Just to clarify:
My post in #14.2 was in reply to #14 - Nathan. Not #14.1 - Moe
The Rachel Maddow segment that I watched did not and did not intend to concern itself with the legitimate pursuit by congress for answers in the "Fast and Furious" debacle. What she imparted to me was information that I was totally unaware of, the wholly illegitimate, insane pursuit of a conspiracy by the entire elite of the Republican vanguard.
"the reason Holder is facing contempt of congress is for not complying with requests for information."
He has complied and released thousands of documents. It is illegal for holder to release the others.
"are you suggesting it is unreasonable that Congress investigate a killing that resulted from a botched gun tracking scheme?"
Darrell Issa isn't investigating Brian Terry's death. He doesn't give a damn about that.
"Is it also your contention that Holder does not need to comply with requests for information from Congress?"
Nope. He has complied and provided thousands of documents.
"As wacky as that may sound, I must tell you that theory is gaining traction, not just among the second amendment crowd, because this operation makes no other sense.”

Rachel, you have spent a career putting all the pieces together so everything makes sense to us. The most glaring question though, why would our President wait until 18 months to use his first "Executive Privilege" after 18 months of the republicans trying to find something? Bush used this BS tactic all the time, but always before any investigation started. Something has to be up and unfortunately our President seems to be tied to it or I'm guessing he would cut Holder loose. Right? I'm afraid this will take on a life of its own now. I think it was Nixon who said, it is not the lie, it is the cover up that matters...are something like that. I was hoping you would cover why the President would do that...I mean, you showing the Alaska clueless clips from years ago was funny...but I think this is pretty serious.
The media adds fuel to a lot of this foolishness! If too much transparency is
exposed then it’s looked at as a leak and if too little information is given it’s
a cover-up. In other words you’re dam if you do, dam if you don’t. I say bring V.P. Chaney and President Bush back to testify about water boarding, weapons of mass destruction, and conflicts of interest with Halliburton, OPEC, etc., etc. Wasn’t that the curse of man from the beginning… needing to know every @!$%#ing thing!
I hope you can set this straight for us...do what your great at....figure out why our President us Executive Privilege now. There has to be a reason...put the pieces together for all of us to understand better. It is just so weird. Just think...if the border agent wasn't killed...this operation would still be going on. I'm sure you already know this, but I think 200 Mexican people have been killed near our boarder with the US government sending guns outside of this country. I hate the GOP...but that is not good...and I think congress should get to the bottom of it...don't you? I'm just a confused viewer...why is the president getting involved now? I hope not...but think this is going to be one of the biggest stories ever...and it is just starting. Bush did the same thing...but the guns stayed in the US and the gov't tracked the guns and got them all back to got lots of bad guys...why did we send guns outside the country with Fast and Furious...were we going to get them back and make arrests outside the country? 18 months of investigation...and now this Executive Privilege to not disclose everything...my confidence is now shaken...I need some help understanding. Uncover please!
Maybe if Eric Holder is held in contempt next week, which he probably will, the democrats will finally figure out how dirty and conniving the republicans really are. Nancy Pelosi should've arrested Karl Rove when she had the chance because y'all are getting no breaks from these guy's, but then y'all should've figured this out a long time ago.
moe4331....media or not...what I understand it is that an agent was killed along with 200 mexicans. I can't turn a blind eye...I was screaming at Bush back in the day...but those days are over. Somebody needs to be held accountable...and it appears are President is now part of some stonewalling. That is not good. Again...it just doesn't look good.
@ RecklessQuaker, "Judgement Day" is never over! There can not be a double standard...if you are without sin then cast the first stone. Why are we then trying to beat a dead horse?
If there was nothing else worthwhile on tonight's show, the Greyhound story was worth every minute. Hilarious!
moe4331...everyone pays for there sins, I agree. Where I don't think there is understanding going forward is...the GOP will take this to the federal court in the district of columbia...and they will get all the docs they want...it will take a year or so, and Obama will be in the second term...but if our President is doing this Executive Privilege after 18 months...he has to be involve somehow...I'm not a reporter...but that is just common sense. If our president knows nothing...and Holder retracks a half dozen statements on what he knows...then Obama should have cut him loose a while ago as being incompetent. He is the President's chief law enforcement officer right? There is something not being disclosed...Obama will be in his second term...in 2014-ish...the truth will come out...and I'm afraid it will be bad...it has to be....or everything would be disclosed now. The question is...what is it? And I thought Rachel would have an answer. Why is the US government sending guns outside our country, on our boarders? We did it under Bush, but it was in our boarder and we made arrests. And why is our President stopping us from knowing? I believe Executive Privilege can only be used for national security...so is it national security interests to not know why we sent guns to another country? The answer is no. I voted for Obama last time...but this is just weird. It is really weird...something is very strange about this and it will just not go away. So, Obama is involved somehow...It is simple common sense...but why? I just think that is a very important question. The dead horse is actually alive...and this is going to become huge.
Rachel, I tried I really did try to watch you on MSNBS and couldn't stomach the crap that comes out of your mouth. You are so what is wrong with this country! No wonder this station is the bottom of the barrel. The only person I find worse than you is Ed! Pathetic "journalism"! YOU SUCK!!!
@Cantbelievethecrapyouspew: Curious if you could list (anyone) your favorites from this list or your own in order of likeability from 1 to 10 who would you pick: Hitler, MLK Jr., Sarah Palin, George Wallace, Abe Lincoln, Malcolm X, Mandela, Gandhi, Jesus, and Romney.
@RecklessQuaker: We'll good luck, sounds like a whole lot of drama to me. Sort of like chasing your tail...still waiting to see if President Bush will be held accountable for his wrong doing! And, he unfortunately got elected (questionable) to two terms, go figure.
Very much enjoy your reporting/commentary; think you are the smartest commentator covering politics today. But feel that tonight's show missed the boat. You may be entirely correct about the conspiracy theory underpinning the interest in these Fast and Furious documents, but that just makes AG Holder's decision not to release documents all the more curious. One would think that full disclosure would vindicate the administration's actions. Today's events raise the question of whether it was legitimate to withhold the documents-- what are the limits of executive power?--not whether the Republican party's motives in requesting those documents were "proper." Nobody benefits if the administration is able to withhold documents because the motives of the requesters are not perceived to be genuine or free from political motivation. I may not endorse the motives, but take a much more dim view of governments withholding documents, and I haven't heard a good analysis of the position taken by the AG's office, and its merits. So I was hoping to see a debate on that issue, and on the implications of Holder's decision to withhold. Didn't get it. Disappointing.
FOX News wants to compare President Obama with Nixon...the difference is where's the deep throat. Someone should want to come forward to tell the story, these reports were not written by AG Holder or President Obama if it was such a big cover-up on the part of the Administration a lot of people would have been involved...you think! With all these books (lies), being published on behalf of President Obama someone should come forward and get rich. Have they released all documents involving Kennedy's assassination after all these years?
Here's the deal with the NRA. They're all about the freedom to own guns, they advocate for gun ownership. The leaders of the NRA promote all sorts of gun get-togethers where gun fanciers as well as newcomers may check out the latest gear and socialize and, perhaps buy something or sell something.
Two points and, unfortunately, both rather negative. (And, no, I'm not a Fox-fed, right-wing troll who just came here to stir up trouble. Honest.)
1. First, on the "Fast and Furious" story, there was never a mention of exactly why there was a contempt of Congress vote on Holder. Yes, there was a lot on the wacky conspiracy theory. (Probably a little too much. Yes, it's wacky. Yes, the people behind it are wacky. Yes, gun nuts are wacky. I get it. And I got it the second and third times, too.) But the vote on Holder was for a very specific reason, and that was never mentioned. If, in the introduction, you assumed that most non-Fox viewers don't know much about Fast and Furious, then you should also assume that they also don't know the reason behind the contempt vote.
2. In the introduction to the Chris Hayes interview, which focused on the shocking and huge recent failures of our elite institutions, there were two pretty bad typos in the book excerpts. Since I consider MSNBC among the media elite (Honest), I thought this was sadly ironic. Sure, it's not on the level of the collapse of Enron or the decline of Major League Baseball and the Catholic Church, but it's pretty bad timing to be talking about institutions you can't trust and have no faith it, and have a network like MSNBC slip up on its copy editing.
Hi, Rachel!
I enjoyed your show tonight. Always a pleasure to see you healthy.
As for the story about Romney and Ken Bennett and you promised to eat your hat on air if you heard from Mister Romney. If you heard from him and someone sent you hat shaped cookies, would you eat them on air?
Forgive my silliness.
