First up from the God Machine this week is a new controversy surrounding Catholic League president Bill Donohue, who has a penchant for making controversial remarks, but who "infuriated prominent Jewish leaders with a private email last week to Philadelphia Rabbi Arthur Waskow." BuzzFeed's Rosie Gray reported this week:
Waskow, a progressive rabbi involved in the Jewish Renewal movement, had criticized the Vatican and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in a Huffington Post op-ed for "attacking the religious freedom of millions of American women and the religious freedom of American nuns" over contraception.
Donohue responded with a note to Waskow that launched an email exchange that ended with a warning, forwarded to BuzzFeed by a source close to the rabbi, that "Jews had better not make enemies of their Catholic friends since they have so few of them" (Donohue writes that this is a saying of Ed Koch, the former mayor of New York). Donohue also includes a postscript saying, "I do not have a long nose."
Donahue also raised a recent child abuse scandal in Orthodox Jewish communities. "You need to do something about this epidemic right now," he told Waskow, who is not Orthodox, suggesting that Jews follow the Catholic Church's reforms in dealing with clerical abuse.
For the record, Koch told Gray he never made the comments Donohue attributed to him.
Prominent leaders in the Jewish community were taken aback by Donohue's angry missives, including Rabbi David Saperstein of the Religious Action Center, who called Donohue's email "disheartening."
Under the circumstances, that seems like a generous adjective. As Jeffrey Goldberg joked, Donohue may not realize "it's not 1492 and we're not in Spain."
Also from the God Machine this week:
* Glenn Beck this week continued to make his transition into a televangelist, arguing that he has personally "seen the finger of God." Beck added that if Americans fail to do what Beck thinks we should do, God will "withdraw his protection" over the country.
* New research from Gallup shows that only a third of Americans realize that President Obama is a Christian. Gallup also found that for the first time, a narrow majority of Americans said they'd consider voting for an atheist candidate for president (thanks to reader R.B. for the tip).
* In Philadelphia yesterday, in an important conviction, Msgr. William Lynn, a former archbishop's aide, was found guilty of "endangering children, becoming the first senior official of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States to be convicted of covering up child sexual abuses by priests under his supervision."
* The Southern Baptist Convention had a busy week, electing their first African-American president, adopting a new alternative name, and passing a resolution rejecting the idea that marriage equality is a civil rights issue (thanks to reader R.P. for the tip).

Catholic bishops are understandably on edge. The enhanced media profile of Catholic Bishops of late has given rise to a fuller understanding and awareness of just how bat poop goofy Catholic bishops ,as a group, truly are. In other news, Rachel Maddow appeared with Bill Maher on his show and said to another guest ..."Dude, I'm not even a Democrat." Haha, yep, we allready knew that. it is truly now confirmed.. Dude, Maddow ain't a Democrat. She's a corporate liberal. MSNBC employs Maddow in large part to smack the President around. Corporate MSNBC liberals like Maddow and Schultz smack Obama from the left, corporate media conservatives smack the President from the right and corporate America sings it's victory song. Gobama 2012!
Reveal,
If you ever truly LISTENED to Rachel and watched her over time, you would find out that her political hero is Dwight David Eisenhower. Just HOW does that make her a "corporate liberal", whatever THAT means!
The Republican Party has gotten SO FAR off the track that there no longer is room for people who believe in the core principles that the Republican Party HAD back in the 50's and 60's.
You REALLY NEED to understand that the being against this "new" Republican Party DOES NOT NECESSARILY make a person a liberal!!!
So...you are saying that Maddow is neither a liberal or a Democrat. Okeydoke. I say that a corporate liberal is a left wing Obama basher who works for corporate America....like Doctor Maddow. In fairness however she has been cooling her jets a bit since her ratings have been dropping. I think Maddow is mainly a showman. She's a pundit. She's laughing all the way to the bank but she lives on a secluded island, which serious folks are sailing away from. She's alienated herself to a political seclusion zone.
I am neither Republican, Democratic , Independent or whatever. May the best man win. Noone should be labeled.
Wait -- what? Rachel Maddow is an Obama basher?
Evidence, please. Seems to me Rachel's mainly a Republican basher and a right-wing loony basher. These days, that amounts to pretty much the same thing.
And the way she deals with Obama has always been pretty light on the criticism. A bit here and there, mainly by interviewing Democratic politicians, journalists, academics or other pundits who say things mildly critical of the president from a semi-progressive perspective.
I don't know all her political views, of course, but my impression is that she would indeed be something like a centrist Republican of the 1950s, if Republicans of the 1950s supported minority rights and women's rights.
But then, as she's shown so clearly, Republicans of the 1950s were somewhat to the left of where Barack Obama is now on most issues.
Just to add to the mix, my daily tax update included an analysis of the IRS position on auditing churches that engage in direct political endorsements. By law nonprofits are not allowed to do that and retain their nonprofit status. Apparently the right is trying to provoke a direct confrontation with the tax authority and IRS has been cowed into submission.
As churches get political, U.S. IRS stays quiet

I have seen the finger of God in the butthole of Satan.. I have given the subject the proper amount of respect in this statement. Gods... Really?? Are you all high?!!
I've just come down from around an extremely dangerous mountain road, It is probably ranked up there with one of the most dangerous roads in the South, even though I was with someone who professed to be an excellent driver, where have I heard this before? Anyhow, I prayed big time and so I am now here to write about it. Believe you, me I have been saved 1 too many times. And moving Mountains is a parable. Trollop, sometimes you scare me. You are truly one without fear.
We all get to die, I've been on those roads before as well, clenching (butt) and harrowing. Glad you are safe and as far as God(s), nobody knows! I'm not fearless but I do keep that thought as simple fact, nobody knows but people sure act (and project) as if they do! I'm still up for a good mystery but I haven't the slightest preconception about a deity. I guess that I am a fact based agnostic? I prefer non-theist, simply because it ruffles the feathers of the indoctrinated.. I'm a secular humanist above all other things.
How about this for a general rule:
If you have a policy you want enforced on all of US that can ONLY be explained or defended based on your religion, it belongs in your church and in your personal life - but in my personal life and NOT IN OUR GOVERNMENT.
PJ from Amador City: Nope...Neither Stephen Colbert nor John Stewart have any shame, nor need they have such in a nation where people are supposed to be listening and paying attention (and you can bet your PJs we are) while the GOP takes us down the steep and slippery slope into their un-Christian godliness and righteousness. Thank the Lord they provide stark relief of humor from the sad truth.
Reverend Beck, in keeping with his message of hate, tells us, or maybe just the nuts that would sit and listen to him, that "God is not neutral in the affairs/freedom of man". He knows his message has a strategy; fear and hate, the age old tools of the tyrannical. If there was a god, Beck would have been wiped off the planet following one of his earlier tirades against everything good a long time ago.
In regard to TWIG--this story is a little old, but may be of interest to MaddowBlog readers.
It seems as if Texas A&M at San Antonio has a tower at its entrance. The tower, located on privately owned land, formerly had a small Christian cross on it. An adjunct instructor named Sissy Bradford complained about the tower, citing church-state concerns. She got a ton of hate mail when she went public with her concerns. Moreover, the university removed her from the classes she was scheduled to teach in the fall--an action which Texas A&M-San Antonio insists is simply the result of a decision to use fewer adjunct instructors.
This link takes you to a news story on the case:

This link takes you to a KLRN News interview:

Here is the story from the perspective of Barry Lynn's group, Americans United for Separation of Church and State:
http://au.org/blogs/wall-of-separation/teacher-terminated-university-prof-who-complained-about-crosses-is-out-of-a
It would be interesting to know who owned the "private" land and what their relationship was with the university - board member - big donor - local plumber?
I hope she sues the college for the discrimination and intimidation
Was the cross really hurting anybody? I mean was it running around chasing people. She should have erected a statue in which she liked, or wear a symbol of something she likes. No reason to change the landscape now, it's a little too late for that. She should learn to at least pretend, just to keep the peace. Live and let live.
Great Commission Baptists? It'll never fly. Incidentally, I'm old enough to remember a brief period--a very brief period--when the movers and shakers of the Southern Baptist Convention were actually kinda sorta liberal. Actually, they were described at the time as "moderates." In 1979-1988, these folks got purged from leadership positions.
If we're lucky the next thing God is going to show Beck is a lightening bolt.
Margret Sanger - Founder of Planned Parenthood Supported racial eugeics and blocking immigration of the '"unfit" which included african immigration (BLACKS)
Sanger's 1920 book endorsed eugenics.
As part of her efforts to promote birth control, Sanger found common cause with proponents of eugenics, believing that they both sought to "assist the race toward the elimination of the unfit."[99] Sanger was a proponent of negative eugenics, which aims to improve human hereditary traits through social intervention by reducing reproduction by those considered unfit. Sanger's eugenic policies included an exclusionary immigration policy, free access to birth control methods and full family planning autonomy for the able-minded, and compulsory segregation or sterilization for the profoundly retarded.[100][101] In her book The Pivot of Civilization, she advocated coercion to prevent the "undeniably feeble-minded" from procreating.[102] Although Sanger supported negative eugenics, she asserted that eugenics alone was not sufficient, and that birth control was essential to achieve her goals.[103][104][105]
In contrast with eugenicists who advocated euthanasia for the unfit,[note 9] Sanger wrote, "we [do not] believe that the community could or should send to the lethal chamber the defective progeny resulting from irresponsible and unintelligent breeding."[106] Similarly, Sanger denounced the aggressive and lethal Nazi eugenics program.[101] In addition, Sanger believed the responsibility for birth control should remain in the hands of able-minded individual parents rather than the state, and that self-determining motherhood was the only unshakable foundation for racial betterment.[103][107]
Complementing her eugenics policies, Sanger also supported restrictive immigration policies. In "A Plan for Peace", a 1932 essay, she proposed a congressional department to address population problems. She also recommended that immigration exclude those "whose condition is known to be detrimental to the stamina of the race," and that sterilization and segregation be applied to those with incurable, hereditary disabilities.[100][101][108]
Please pass along to Ms. Rachael Maddow and all supporters of same. Have a good day trying to dance around this one !
So Planned Parenthood org is bad because the founder endorsed eugenics (100 years ago)?
Do you believe that removing access to reproductive self-determination is a jobs program?
"Have a good day trying to dance around this one !"
Nothing to dance around, moron.
We're not going back to the 1920's now are we? Revisiting the 60's has been enough of a challenge this last year. Thank goodness for progressive shows like Rachel's.
Margaret Sanger, 1919-- "Eugenists imply or insist that a woman’s first duty is to the state; we contend that her duty to herself is her first duty to the state."
So she advocated that birth control helped a woman, no matter her place, race, beliefs, to get a handle on her life. What you are labeling ' eugenics' is what we know nowadays as family planning-- voluntary family planning, as the family gets to choose. And she was trying to put an end to hospitals filled with dying or horribly damaged women after back-alley botched abortions. And to helping women who until then had no voice, did not have laws to help them or protect them and could not even vote. [ Why by Satan's cold pair of stone balls are we so eager to return to those days? ]
And during the Thirties, pretty much every doctor on the planet believed in sterilization for the poor and indigent, lobotomies for the mentally ill and shutting away the not-so-perfect in institutions. [ Tennessee Williams had a sister, Rose, famously lobotomized; Frances Farmer of course; mental institutions in Idaho that hosed down their patients with a garden hose until the 1970's-- and how many other stories do we know in this vein, ummm? ] And this practice continued for quite a while in the States-- [ until lawsuits and laws and changing public attitudes came into play] so don't get on a high horse about Sanger. She fought the fight she wanted to fight-- women being able to voluntarily choose to have a child or not.
On a happier note, today I just saw my first "Freedom From Religion" ad on TV today. It features an actress named Julia Sweeney discussing the catholic bishops' continuing campaign against contraception. Even mentions keeping church and state separate. Refreshing!
I found it online at http://ffrf.org/get-involved/stand-up/julia-sweeneys-30-second-tv-spot-for-ffrf/
The bishop, now play the Peter Gunne theme music. Remember Monty Python, this skit comes to mind.
http://cancantor.com/. ARE YOU TIRED OF BIG GOVERNMENT? Do you want to MOVE Eric Cantor OUT of Congress? If each one (1) of US donated $1 to Wayne Powell for Congress...WE CAN CHANGE CONGRESS!
Wow, a new low for TRMS. A War on Catholism. True Catholism that is. Guess her disregard for the Pope, the Catholic Church's true teachings and the likes of Catholic League President Donahue are prominant now. Much like the so called "Nuns on the Bus" crusaders she hosted earlier this week. Yawn, nothing new under the sun, a "silenced nun" refusing to obey the Holy Father's orders to stop promulgating "false teachings contrary to the authentic catholic teachings." Much like her predesessors such as Gustavo Gutierrez the author of Liberation Theology ...her's too is a false social teaching rooted in Marxist Socialism. And condemed by the Catholic Church over a decade ago. By none other than Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger. Then Prefect of the Sacred Congregation of the Church. Now the same former Cardinal and present pope has to reaffirm the teachings are contrary to authentic Catholic teaching. Fr Vincent Micelli wrote of this type of rebellion in his books "The Antichrist" and "The gods of atheism" over 20 yrs ago when it was just surfacing in catholic circles. And much of what fr Benedict Groeshel has been speaking about for just as long. False doctrines and false teachers emerging from within the church. They do no more than the author of their movements, they proclaim, "I will not serve."
Oh but she doesn't agree with the pope. Ummm that and maybe some of the Cardinals and Bishops. No no no!!! Not just this pope but every pope since St Peter. She also disagrees with someone it is not wise to disagree with, Jesus Christ. It is Jesus Christ who said to Peter, "You are Rock and upon this rock I build MY church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it." "He who hears you, hears ME." I did not say that, HE did.
Ms Maddow is misguided and as usual, ill informed. And now reaching for new lows, Catholic Church bashing. As for TRMS and crew, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do."
Just concentrate on getting President Obama re-elected Ms Maddow & crew. That's the entire premise of your broadcast anyway. Yes, dispite your appeals on a recent Bill Maher program, YOU ARE A DEMOCRAT Hack. No doubt.
Just tell the truth once in a while Ms Maddow.
Too bad she doesn't take the time to shed light on the activities of the Catholic Church--and other "faiths"--more often. No wonder organized religion is in decline. The CC is more interested in forcing its views onto people who aren't members of the church than it is in overseeing the activities of its own members. Especially its priests.
I'd be a lot more willing to cut Catholics, Evangelicals, and those who espouse other religions some slack if they'd do a little less "espousing" of their faith and do a little more practicing of it. The old question, "What Would Jesus Do," should be the guiding principle--not how one can gain monetary or political advantage.
@IrishPat7
4 gererations of a huge irish catholic family here in iowa helped build a church , a hospital , a college and k 12 schools in our town , the hospital went for profit in the early 80's ....A family member fell on hard times so we thought we would test the gop claims that churches will help you out when times get hard , that is what they are for right? Our catholic church offered ZERO help , but I read the other day about how the pope and his pals are investing heavily in real-estate, because there are a lot of good buys after a economic down turn , so please save your catholic jesus preaching , it is an institution the Pharisees would be proud of
Irish Pat,(insert the Bishop theme song). You should stop and get to know your new Pope. He had to be shown how to wave to people off of the balcony of the vatican. The vatican is one example of an out of control male ego party on steroids. They are so busy being unaccepting that they have thrown everything that Jesus stands for out the window. They are hypocrites. And they are hiding from the truth. And they are keeping the truth hidden. What they don't understand is that some people know the truth without having to step inside the Vatican. The more they prophecy hate the more priests they will lose. When there are no priests, there are no more Catholic Churches. The only thing that I am greatful for being raised catholic is the fact that it led me to question my priests in my parish. God only wants to love us not condemn us.
Cannot wait for November's election night coverage on MSNBC and being able to watch the looks on Maddow, Schultz, Mathews and O'Donnell's faces when "Wa Wa's Romney" wins the Presidency and "makes you a horrible Senator" Scott Brown wins re-election in Ma. Deja vu all over again. November 2010 and the night Scott Walker won his recall election.
No thrill up my leg for Chris. No Brown bashing for Maddow and fits of anger and anguish for Schultz. Oh yes, and O'Donnell's socialist dream state crushed.
This is just like watching the tail end of any baseball season in New England as a NY Yankees fan. Just waiting for the hammer to fall and all the hopes of Red Sox fans extinguished, pooooof into thin air.
Scott Brown fans such as myself ( and I live in NH) are monitoring you Ms Maddow To catch you in your lies and telling everyone, watch the REAL news, watch FOX!!!!! Seems the lies come all too "fast & furious" only from MSNBC.
TRMS says, "Fox seriously edited Shirley Sherrod tape". But no mention of how Andrea Mitchell butchered Romney's "Wa Wa" outta touch tapes two days earlier!. Supreme editing award by a news team for 2012 goes to MSNBC.
Repubs may swoon in June but the month to remember is November. Go Scott Brown! I may even move back to Mass just to vote for him over nit wit fake Cherokee Tribal wacko job Elizabeth Warren. WOW, no mention of that stuff huh Ms Maddow. Talk about a real "fumblebrag"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One more day til the Supreme Court strikes down "Obama-Care". Yaaaaaaaaa America! Man, I can't wait til November 2012. ok, gotta get back to the real news, FOX!!!!!!!!!!!
Too bad we won't be able to see YOUR face in four years if all your dreams come true!! You don't HAVE A CLUE what is happening to your world because you've bought the propaganda without thinking through what is going to happen to YOU if these people all win!
Good luck to YOU if your guys win!!! Or do you think they will do the bad stuff just to "other people"????
While we're at it, let's not overlook Sean Hannity's incredible mis-editing of Obama explaining the limits of a president's ability to change immigration laws versus affecting their enforcement. When it comes to committing "news fraud," that's up there in the top five of all time. Notice you didn't mention that one, IrishPat.
I also disagree about the Andrea Mitchell piece. She couldn't show the entire speech, but she did catch the essential mistake on Romney's part, although the press seems to have largely missed it: when he referred to "touch-tone" instead of "touch screen." A pretty big error on his part, showing a limited understanding of technology.
I realize that good little boys & girls in the US aren't supposed to say this sort of thing (I also don't care), but for quite some time now I have noticed that the attitudes routinely expressed by those on the right in the US are pretty much the same as the sort of attitudes expressed by the NSDAP* and their supporters in 1930s Germany. Both groups exhibit the same sneering arrogance, hyper-nationalism, racism, "we're gonna make you sorry" belligerence, and other unsavory attitudes. As did the aforementioned types of Germans, the right in America exhibits a particularly severe case of "My Azz Is Golden" syndrome. The following has been expressed more than one way, but it is inevitably true that those who do not learn the lessons of history are condemned to repeat its mistakes (attributed to George Santayana).
* I wanted to use a different term, but the blog system probably wouldn't let me use it.
I'll say it , that is a real life catholic nazi
Not exactly the same ideas, but the same kind of ideas, coming from the same kind of thinking. The only thing really separating Republicans from Nazis is that the Nazis had the opportunity to make all their insane eliminationist fantasies into reality, and they took it, while the Republicans can still do no more than fantasize. If they ever do get the same unhindered power that the Nazis achieved, what's to prevent them from acting out their own eliminationist fantasies?
IrishPat, didn't your Irish Mum teach you not to speak if you haven't a word nice to say. Typing peoples names down and following it with nasty adjectives to describe is juvenile. And to think you wasted a lot of time doing it.
Oh for crying out loud! Look at all the yapping , yet we all know that only Southern Baptists will ever make it to Heaven.
I think I shall take on UFOlogy as my new religion. After all even in the twenty first century we have people who think space travel is impossible even though we went to the moon and sent missions to Mars. Some people still think medicine is evil and the only path to healing is prayer. I have to admit that these fanatics make it very easy for me to believe that our ancient ancestors were worshipping aliens with technology beyond their ability to understand.
Now please excuse me as I attempt to telepathically contact the mother ship and humbly request they beam me up.
Wait for me.
Beck is looking to grift money via the TV preacher route. All he had to do was say he saw the finger of God and some adults will buy that crap.
Donahue has always been an abusive bully.
Who said that religion is the last refuge of the scoundrel? Here's absolute proof.
Religious loons, will the world never be rid of them?
As a Jew, Words fail to describe my disgust, contempt and utter RAGE at Donahue's disrespectful actions.
UH-OH I think Glenn is overdue for his monthly shock treatment.
If you want want to know what this "clueless" face will look like in four years, if all my dreams come true and all these guys win, let me give you a glimpse.
A big bright smile on a 62 year old Irishman's face. Eyes glued to my 55" Sony 3D HDTV, playing Madden 17 on my Playstation 4. Obama Care long since abolished. An economy stabalized by sound fiscal policy. Fuel oil and gas prices at a reasonable rate. Austerity measures in tact to equal those of Wisconsin's successful Govenor Walker's plans. Smaller Gov't.(no more pressure telling what I can and cannot eat & drink or how much) Free enterprise and small business alive and active again. MSNBC, Media Matters, Current TV, Free Speech TV and all the leftist extremist whining about how great a President George Bush was compared to Mitt Romney. Rev. Sharpton with "Blueberry Pie all over his face". And freedom for my Catholic Church to continue serving the world over, esp the United States with hospitals, nursing homes, charity efforts and community activites without having to deny Pope Paul IV's 1968 encyclical "Humane Vitae" or more importantly, no loss of religious freedom..
No I would not want Maddow talking more about the Catholic Church. The woman is incredulous. No more than I'd want Charles Curran telling me about his former catholic faith. As Christ said, "The gates of hell will not prevail against the Catholic Church." A puny voice on MSNBC (Ms Maddow's) will fall away in time like a wisper............shushhhhhhhhhhhhh
Hannity was accurate, the tape complete. President Obama does not have the authority under the constitution. Plain and simple. The immigration ruling is wrong. I am sorry to say. I know, the King has spoken. But the Supreme Court has not .......yet, if necessary. Andrea Mitchell and her crew edited the tape precisely, to convey a false image and false message. Touch tone, touch screen. Oh my, you mean Mitt Romney DIDN'T invent the internet?? Guess that's what you mean after all, Mitt Romney is outta "TOUCH"
My face in four years............ :-) Playing Madden 17 on my PS4!!!!!!!! I love America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's a nice little fantasy you have going there buddy.
The biggest fantasy you mention is that any of Walker's austerity measures have been successful, at least if by "success" you mean beneficial to the people of the state, not the parasites, primarily the Koch's and the De Vos. The reason that Wisconsin has been losing employment while the rest of the country is gaining employment is because of his austerity measures.
Just more future projecting that Republicans will "Save the World" in the face of the lingering evidence of the degraded condition of the US and cascading effects on the world when Bush II and his Republican majority Congress saved it?
"And freedom for my Catholic Church to continue serving the world over, esp the United States with hospitals, nursing homes, charity efforts and community activities . . ."
I don't want Catholics involved in running hospitals, nursing homes, or other "charitable" efforts when the tradeoff for accepting their "help" is having them force their dogma on people who don't believe in the same things they do. Let's get to single payer health care and have medical facilities run either by non-religious entities or by the government. Health care isn't like other goods that you can shop for and, when Catholics run it, the social cost is too high.
And, Pat, you'd better go find the Hannity tape that Hannity and Faux News didn't cut off--just before Obama noted that he can't enact the DREAM Act by himself, but he does have the power to direct scarce resources to aspects of enforcement--which is exactly what he's doing. But then, you'd have to find an honest news source--which you seem unwilling to do.
@IrishPat
OK - "In 4 more years", if you are "happy" I assume that you are either are so wealthy you don't need to work or you still have a job that pays a living wage so you can afford that fancy TV and since you have time to sit and play a game, don't have to work more than one job.
I also assume that you will have a job where you can get health insurance at a reasonable cost.
ObamaCares
I also assume that you already have health insurance and are reasonably healthy. I assume that you have not thought what would happen if you lost your job and with it your insurance and are not being able to afford insurance on your own. If you are not healthy (pre-existing condition), you may not realize that the chances of getting insurance - at any price - are slim to none.
Austerity:
I assume that you think that austerity is working either in Europe or Wisconsin. I suggest you take another look at the facts.
"Smaller Gov't.(no more pressure telling what I can and cannot eat & drink or how much)" You do realize there is way more to Government than this and besides, the Government can't and doesn't tell you what to do. We - all of us - need to eat and drink better food so that we don't make ourselves fat and sick and completely overwhelm the Health Care system.
The Catholic Church should mind it's own business and stop trying to impose it's teachings on the rest of us. Same goes for every other religion!!
As Christ said, "The gates of hell will not prevail against the Catholic Church." You do realize there was no Catholic Church when Christ was still around?
Irish,
OK, you've exposed YOUR stupidity - now listen to some truths.
Romney has said that he WILL got to war with Iran. You are an old man so YOU won't go, you can still play your little fantasy "Madden" games, but your sons and grandsons will go, but what the hell, YOU don't care about THEM do you - only your "Madden" game matters to YOU!
Then, how are we going to PAY for this war? Either we raise taxes or we borrow like we did for the last two wars and leave the debt for our kids to pay - NOT a problem for YOU unless you live more than 10 years!!. But in YOUR fantasy, we will only tax those people poorer than YOU, yes, cause gee whillikers, Madden wouldn't want the RICH taxed!!!
Oh, and BTW, Romney wants to get rid of all regulations on Wall Street and he wants the Ryan budget passed. "Free enterprise" as practiced by WALL STREET WILL be going great, but like now, that really hasn't helped small businesses. Wall Street doesn't care a whit about small businesses in THIS country so they will continue to do what they are doing now - sending that money overseas and gambling in places like Europe and Asia, only NOW it will be on a BIGGER scale So in 10 years when you "think" you are going to retire to a bliss of playing "Madden" all day, you will probably be working two jobs -if you can find them -because 1) your company WON'T have to pay you a pension, even if it IS still in business, an 2) there will be drastic cuts in Social Security and Medicare, and 3) your 401K will be in the toilet because Wall Street WILL be "risk on" again of course, until ANOTHER bubble bursts and it tanks again - like it has been doing in the past. Of course, because the Ryan Budget DOESN'T help the deficit, there WILL be no money to bail them out this time. Do you have a CLUE what that will do to the economy? - nah - it isn't a scenario on your "Madden" game.
Oh, and by the way, don't get sick!! Cause if you do, there will be NO REASON for your insurance company to pay your bills, they will decide you are "too expensive" to cover and drop you and you won't have Medicare to fall back on - maybe your "Madden" game will help comfort you till you die!
Oh, yea, any OF COURSE, the Catholic Church will be there to tell you not to complain, because THIS IS YOUR LOT IN LIFE - so SHUT UP and give them their 10% of whatever you have left!
Oh, and of course, there won't be any immigrants to do the cheap labaor YOU don't want to do, so WHO will build your buildings, who will farm your fields? Who will sell you your cheap hamburgers? Who will be there to fix your Playstation when it breaks down, because Americans are too busy "amusing" themselves with "Madden" to be doing anything technological. Of course, all the good jobs will be overseas, so I really doubt we'll have much of an immigration problem here anyway.
But don't worry, YOU don't have to worry about living very long, because without regulations, the food you eat doesn't HAVE to be clean, the cars you drove don't HAVE to be safe, the factories can pump out as much pollution and be as irresponsible with your safety as they want!
YEA, GREAT LIFE there!!! But you keep playing your playstation instead of figuring out what these people will actually DO to you - you can vote your stupidity and "hope for the best"!!! Best of all, DO NOT learn anything about economics cause you really DON'T want to "scare" yourself - blissful ignorance is best for people like you!!!!
@oncearepublican
Well put!!!!
BTW I am totally in awe at how fast you must be able to type!!
maphi,
LOL!! I can type fast, just not all that accurately!!
I didn't think I would be the only commenter to speculate on which finger God showed to Beck, and I wasn't. By the way I saw the same finger that Beck did in a photo shared on the internet over the title of "You know it will be a bad day when ..."
Does the Catholic League have any other members besides Donohue, and even if it does, is it worth paying any attention to?
I have to say, Donahue owes Jewish Community an apology... for sure.
I think that is pretty bad, plus Beck being the new Moses with seeing the finger of God instead of a burning bush and hearing the voice of God.
So is he going to lead us to the promised land, but he will not see it?
I would say some things about the props, but on second thought...
Irish, won't you be surprised then. I think you are showing signs of an addiction to Dopamine. Your dopamine production is really low, and you should be seeking ways in which to find excitement, a good novel would do you some good. God Bless you, try not to get too worked up about all of this, Let God handle things for awhile and pray for the best results for all concerned.
Human beings will never learn. They scoff when someone claims to have seen a UFO, but when someone claims to have personal interaction with God, the idiot belief rears its head and money starts flowing in.
What is the difference, seeing God or seeing UFO's?
If God was going to defy His own "believe" system and markedly point His Holy Digit at anyone, why would He choose to bestow His warning on a waning media figure rather than say, the Bishops?
Maybe God uses UFO's in which to travel.
Mr Stupdiity here,
Least according to "oncearepublican". I am engulfed in my stupidity and ignorance of all matters dealing with parochial economics according to "oncearepublican".
In my sunken state of blissfull stupidity I put down playing Madden long enough to stumble upon a certain web site of one my favorite authors. And guess what????
Professor Niall Ferguson agrees with Me! How cool is that. One of the highest regarded economist of our time and professor at Harvard University Niall Ferguson has endorsed Mitt Romney. Specifically because of Romney's economic plan & history both as Govenor of Mass and his experience at Bain. Seems that puts me good "stupid company". I
There was another tiny error in oncearepub's reply. "The Catholic Church will be there ..... telling me to Shut Up and give them their 10% instead of helping me. It might interest you to know that while unemployed in 1983 and seeking an annulment, my parish priest and very dear friend Fr Seguilia paid for my annulment. Also, during further financial hardships suffered in 1992 Fr Kelly from another state and parish entirely, gave me $500.00 one Christmas to assist with Christmas for my three children. So, you are wrong again.
Ok, I am done here for now. Currently my rich catholic nazi azz is playing Tiger Woods PGA 13. Gotta wait til August 28th for Madden 13 to come out. Great stuff there too, Phil Simms and Jim Nance are doing the play by play for Madden this year! Right now I have created a very close rendition of Padraig Harrington and am full throttle playing Tiger Woods 13.
Blissfull ignorance is best for people like me, AND playing Tiger Woods 13 (insert David Chappelle's favortie call out here)!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Glenn Beck this week continued to make his transition into a televangelist, arguing that he has personally "seen the finger of God." Beck added that if Americans fail to do what Beck thinks we should do, God will "withdraw his protection" over the country.” This is pretty typical of you Glenn Beck isn’t it? Are you also taking donations from people like the other typical religious extremists of hatred? Yea, it could be said God has indicated something alright, but it seems you still fail to understand what it was. And what we should be doing to help all people. Have you forgotten how to follow the teachings of Jesus and come to true understanding?
“Donohue responded with a note to Waskow that launched an email exchange that ended with a warning, forwarded to BuzzFeed by a source close to the rabbi, that "Jews had better not make enemies of their Catholic friends since they have so few of them" “. Kind of hypocritical don’t you think Donohue, whatever happened to love your neighbor and freedom of speech? And doing something more positive for all people. Plus truly following Jesus’ teachings and admit the real truth about how Jesus was for the betterment of everybody, including women. Waskow is following more of what Jesus really wanted than Donohue is. Time to face the facts narrow-minded Donohue and start telling the real truth, instead of lies. Especially, when you are in a position to influence people. And we wonder why we have so much trouble in this world at times.
Let’s start doing some real reforms that count and matter, if you want a better world, instead of narrow-minded men making things worse and not better.
