Today's edition of quick hits:
* A bellicose tone: "Buoyed by support from his country's NATO allies, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned Syrian forces on Tuesday to stay clear of their troubled border or face a Turkish military response to any perceived threat, following the disputed downing of a Turkish warplane."
* A welcome reversal: "The University of Virginia governing board voted unanimously Tuesday to reinstate Teresa Sullivan as president, more than two weeks after board leaders had forced her to resign."
* Splitting Murdoch's empire: "Top executives at News Corporation met on Tuesday to discuss a potential breakup that would sever the media company's underperforming newspapers from its lucrative entertainment assets."
* For all of the effort the Romney campaign puts into heckling President Obama, the president still waves off booing of his rival.
* A done deal? "Top leaders in the Senate say they have reached a deal on freezing student loan rates for another year, though they are still deciding the mechanics for how the proposal should make its way through the Congress in the final busy days before lawmakers leave Washington for a week-long July 4 holiday."
* A fact that Republicans simply choose not to believe: "Illegal immigration has fallen precipitously and border enforcement is at an all-time high." That's in conflict with GOP talking points, so it's forcefully rejected.
* I really wish more media outlets took Ben Bernanke's plea for more fiscal stimulus seriously.
* And the long, contentious fight the Koch brothers have waged for control of the Cato Institute appears to be finished.
Anything to add? Consider this an open thread.

I think that part of the underreporting of Ben Bernanke's pleas to Congress is because Bernanke talks in economicspeak. There are no sweet nuggets to highlight. So, couple that with reporters propensity for "not taking sides", they have to report what they think he means, which might be seen as "taking sides". Easier to just drop it. It's old news anyway... he said this last time he came to Congress.
glad to see my fellow Bostonians haven't forgotten what a terrible governor R-money was....
Romney did more than send jobs over seas. Romney gave the people there harsh work conditions, no safe work conditions, very low wages, long work hours, decreased health, and very little benefits if any at all. Plus a major loss of American jobs and sending everybody closer to poverty, except the extreme rich. Yea sure Romney is sure something all right. What would you call Romney other than something rather worthless to people in the world. Let’s not waste our time trying to justify Romney as anything really good, since Romney has never shown anything close to caring about community or other people.
Senator Lott, Senator Breaux, Getting to know you. Getting to know all about you. I make no statement as to what alleged things were done by an oil company to a village in Ecuador, that is in a public record and a judgment action. The purpose here is to ask why this offshoot is not “out there?”
OK, You Want To See the Revolving Door?” How Much More Do You Need?
In November 2010, Patton Boggs appeared on behalf of the Ecuadorian Plaintiffs in one of those matters. Patton Boggs had recently acquired the Breaux Lott Leadership Group, a lobbying firm in Washington, D.C. that had provided services to Chevron on issues related to the litigation in Ecuador. (The record does not disclose the precise nature of those services.) Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP sent Patton Boggs a letter expressing “grave concerns that [its] appearance in this matter constitutes a conflict of interest that could result in disqualification” because “Patton Boggs attorneys, former Senators Lott and Breaux, formerly represented Chevron in a substantially related matter.”
disqualified from representing the Ecuadorian Plaintiffs in any current or future proceeding on the basis of Breaux Lott’s prior relationship with Chevron.
first determine whether the services Breaux Lott provided Chevron could be considered “legal” in nature
each court would need to ask first whether Breaux Lott provided Chevron legal services as defined under D.C. law, the ultimate determination “whether an attorney is competent to appear in a particular proceeding is properly a question for the presiding court to resolve.”

“For a majority of Cato’s directors, the agreement confirms Cato’s independence and ensures that Cato is not viewed as controlled by the Kochs" ...oh c'mon. Maybe the 'directors' think they are 'independent' but no one I know will ever believe a single thing CATO ever says again.
Trying to find some info on the Lesbian couple shot in the head (one dead) in Texas. Thought TRMS would be all over this!?!?!? Should be a national story I would think, especially in the US! I saw it on a cairon on CBC this morning and went looking...
Found the best article on the Lesbian shooting on MSNBC of course. I especially liked the comment linking this to the Fast and Furious story. America doesn't have hate or prejudice on it's own somehow it's Eric Holders fault or the scary Mexican drug lords who are randomly shooting teens on Texas beaches. Why go with the plausible theory when a conspiracy theory is so much more fun????
I expect Limbaugh and his ilk to be picking this up soon!
