In fairness, the above photo looks like it might have been taken today -- it does capture the two leaders' reactions to the Supreme Court nicely, doesn't it? -- but it was taken yesterday. House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) just happened to get caught at an unfortunate moment at a Capitol Hill event.
Still, the smile on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) is even broader today than it was yesterday.
Pelosi was attending Democratic Whip Meeting in the Capitol Visitor Center when she found out about the decision, according to a narrative obtained from her office. She returned to her office to make phone calls, and left messages for the president and vice president.
Pelosi then called Vicki Kennedy, and was described as telling Mrs. Kennedy: "Now, Teddy can rest."
It's become a media cliche to talk about "winners and losers" after any important political development, so I'll continue to avoid writing (and reading) such items. I will, however, note that as satisfied as health-reform advocates are today, it's worth singling out Nancy Pelosi, who fought harder and worked longer to get the nation to this point.

Wow, one picture telling the whole story. Awesome. I would have guessed it was "photoshopped".
I wish it could be more like each side having something to say, that works for us. But alas, we are in this mode of all or nothing political point scoring.
The thing is usually the Democratic Party is for the masses needing help now and the Republican Party is for those that really just want to boos their bottom lines, then hold their employees at their mercy.
Yes, Teddy can rest and this is a good start. Not the ideal I would like, single payer… but a very good start.
It sure is a great picture, even iconic! I'd sure love to know what they were each reacting to in that "unfortunate" moment for Boner...
;-)
This may be off topic but, Issa and the rat pack are now trying to speak on behalf of Brian Terrys' parents. Again, he is not going to the source he should ask himself what Brian Terry would do? He would be looking down from heaven and saying" Why? Why, aren't you helping my friends and co-workers, Why, are you using my memory in an attempt to rip off the American People. Shame on you.Issa, I now hold you in contempt of the highest court, where I reside. How dare you?"I believe the whole Democrat caucus is walking out of Congress and refusing to vote. Now, there are Democrats we remember, the ones we've grown to trust and love.
Ah, the Rat Pack… Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, and Peter Lawford. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.anythinggauche.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/1rat-pack.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.anythinggauche.com/2009/04/26/into-the-west-the-rat-pack/&h=487&w=569&sz=78&tbnid=mCVv40T64oZQuM:&tbnh=110&tbnw=128&prev=/search%3Fq%3Drat%2Bpack%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=rat+pack&usg=__hqpDZfCM6FV5UOZTIvZtGwRwMcw=&docid=nLMIonqDLN7DTM&sa=X&ei=Wb3sT5qOOOOe2gX1yc3CCg&ved=0CHsQ9QEwBw&dur=6518
A bit before my time, but I remember them (the good ones?)
For Teddy.
For Agent Orange, all photographic moments are unfortunate.
When Boners make public appearances, it's usually "unfortunate" for somebody!
;-)
I am open to being persuaded otherwise, but until then I continue to believe that Nancy Pelosi is the only democratic party leader in D.C. who has balls.
Britain may have a Iron Lady but we have a Titanium Lady!
Nancy Pelosi is due more credit than I've given her in the past. I was uncomfortable with her bare knuckled approach to dealing with the Republicans at the time she was leader, but at this point I can only accept that she read where the Republican House members were headed a lot more clearly than I did.
Hats off to the lady. She deserves a lot of credit for getting ACT through Congress.
Pelosi did less than promised, saying she would vote against the original bill if the public option was not included right up until she voted for the final bill that dropped the public option. Maybe she was tough with Republicans in Congress and the Cabinet, but she refused to even consider investigating Bush for possible impeachment.
Boehner look's like a bird just flew into his mouth.By the way I heard an interesting story. The tanning mom was stopped by police for a traffic violation, but they let her go because they thought it was John Boehner.
I don't think I've ever seen one picture of John Boehner where he doesn't look like a cartoon character on the verge of a tantrum or some kind of breakdown.
LOVE that picture!!!!!
Was Bonehead getting ready to cry, again? YEA!
No picture could be more telling of these two people's character. Rep. Polosi is all smiles and charm. Boehner OTOH looks like a tick about to pop.
That is my new favorite picture EVER of Boehner.
Pelosi - Maddow 2016!
Totally out of her mind. Who, Pelosi or Maddow? Same thing. But it's fun to see all the commentators on this blog, on all fours, in concert, with a smile, waiting for the big reaming! (I can see i'm outnumbered here, so go ahead my people, take me out!)
Pelosi and Maddow - not the same, but each brilliant in her own way. We should be so lucky to actually have them run in four years. Extremely unlikely, but I plant seeds whenever a good opportunity presents itself.
The only reaming resulting from the Affordable Care Act will be to those who favor impoverishment of the uninsured. Entirely appropriate reaming. I certainly can't "take you out," but expect that virtually everyone else reading your post will dismiss you as a right-wing Kool-Aid drinker.
thank you, Nancy Smash.
As a credit card co. says "priceless"!
Who put the pickle in Boehner's booze?
Is it just me or did Boehner seem to be filled with liquid courage when he made his statement about the ACA ruling. Afterall he was two hours late making it.
