Rep. Todd Akin
No surprise that Republicans are apoplectic over today’s Supreme Court decision, but U.S. Rep. Todd Akin from Missouri went the Full Wack-a-doo. To wit (with our annotations):
"This is a crushing blow to freedom1 and an absolute insult2 to the dignity3 of all Americans.4 I am deeply disappointed in the Supreme Court5 for giving the government the authority to force citizens to buy a product.6 I believe this encroachment of government is unconstitutional and offensive.7 It puts the life and death health decisions of our families and loved ones in the hands of Washington Bureaucrats.8 We don't want the compassion of the IRS9 or the efficiency of the DMV in our healthcare system.10… Now we must work tirelessly to continue defunding and destroying the monster that is Obamacare.11"
1. Paramedics say Ms. Freedom suffered three cracked ribs and a concussion. Thank you, “Chief Justice” Roberts.
2. Insult, i.e. “Your health care is so ugly, we had to tie a steak around its neck so the dog would play with it.”
3. Think: Lady Liberty in a sparkly tube top and Daisy Dukes.
4. And by all Americans, he means Rep. Todd Akin. The millions who WILL be able to afford health care now are probably Belgian.
5. Rep. Akin thought they were dating, turns out it was just a Facebook thing.
6. Rep. Akin is referring to the Obama Administration’s top secret Force Feed Them Broccoli, Then Take Their Guns Initiative set for Spring, 2013.
7. See also: Rep. Akin’s response to the Season Three finale of “Glee.”
8. Exactly! Washington Bureaucrats should be spending all their time wiping out women’s reproductive rights and cutting taxes for billionaires.
9. So, for the record: The man enraged about his fellow Americans gaining access to health care is passing judgment about the compassion of others. Got it.
10. Wow, one bad driver’s license photo and some people get all cranky-pants.
11. IT… IS… ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wak-a-doo. Sums it up nicely, Rachel.
Once the spittle-flying dies down a bit and people start seeing what this bill will do for them, they'll suddenly be all about it. The problem is that the Republicans will never get credit for passing this, despite ample opportunity to do it. They're ticked about that and hell-bent on destroying this administration any way they can. I suspect the idiocy will go on well past November regardless of how the election turns out. Even in Romney wins, Congress won't support him any more than they have Obama. Romney's history is too moderate for them.
Yes, but in true conservative form, they won't admit they are for it, they'll just quietly acquiesce and slowly find a way to thank Bush II for the benefits and blame Obama for not implementing it sooner.
I'm sorry - being forced to pay private corporations is NOT a tax. You can say what ever you like about the benefits of ObamaCare, the Mandate is a horrible thing created by invented by Republicans. - we need to keep the benefits and go to Single Payer. I don't want my money to go the paying wealthy Corporate executives who may only cover 98% of the people. Single payer is Cheaper AND covers everyone.
The Republicans have won, because the Democrats are now fighting with all their might to protect and promote a Republican law that forces us to keep unnecessary corporations in big profits.
Once this plan has taken root, nothing will ever stop single payer.
After some time has elapsed and people grow to become dependent on the benefits, it will become evident that costs could be a lot lower with single payer and it will be done.
You have to be patient and eat away at the conservative spin till Americans become too attached to the ACA to listen to any negative talk of repeal much less a voucher system. Then you go for Phase II.
Be smart not disappointed.
Why is Akin and Talent two of Romney's most vocal and discredited surrogates? They aren't even respected by their constituents in MO.
Akin is running for the GOP Senate nomination and is going to lose to a woman that doesn't even know what the minimum wage but her sons knows how to threaten the President of the United States...and then says he's sorry IF he offended anyone.
Talent hasn't been able to get a real job since McCaskill blew him out of the water for re-election and Roy Blunt threatened to bump him off for the other Senate seat.
Romney doesn't need any of the help they are trying to give him since he's as inept as they are as campaigners.
Rachael............is there not this country's share of republican middle class that will also benefit from all the positive aspects from this bill? And what about Wisconsin Union members?......they can't all be democratic teachers that will no longer have the right to unionize!...............a bunch of republicans were shown tonight expressing thier disatisfaction over the ruling,......It sounded like they were being used as mediums for big corporations to channel thier true frustrations through. Tell me Im wrong :0) !
Do you think that all these right wingers who want to move to Canada because of the ACA realize that Canada has national health care and strict gun control.
Now, per Michelle Bachmann, Chief Justice Roberts is an "activist judge." Ugh!
She almost makes Rudolf Hess look normal.
We don't have to listen to him. He ain't no Amerikan, where's his flag lapel pin, and he ain't no Christian without a WWJD wrist band and why isn't his hand over his heart while he sings this Republican anthem. And I know just by the way he's standing there, his Support the Troops bumper sticker on the Lexus is only magnetic, not the real stick-on-forever kind. And his blue shirt is obviously a message of secret support to the Muslim Brotherhood. I want to see his birth certificate NOW, not the short form, the whole 15 pager.
Um government forcing us to buy something. Anyone ever question the whole vaccine/profit/pre-existing issue. Government has forced us to do many things like have to have car inurance, vaccinate needlessly our children so they can have education. The list can go on....
Any person out there that can afford healthcare, or are given healthcare by their employer has ABSOLUTELY no say in this. I work hard, I am a student and work full time with the Dept of Health & Human Services, and I can not afford healthcare as I make just over minimum wage and still have to pay for school expenses as well. So for me and others in situations like mine, this is a small step in the right direction.
"I believe this encroachment of government is unconstitutional"
Akin does not have a law degree. He's not a judge. The US Supreme Court has spoken: the law is constitutional.
Akin can continue to believe the world is flat, too, if he wants. But what he believes is not a logical argument. It's just white noise.
But, according to Glenn Beck, the Flat-Earthers are evil LIEberal DUMBocrats, or some stupid crap.
Am I the only one here who noticed that the dissenting vote on expanding medicaid for everyone was justice KAGAN ?... WTF ?.. was it not Obama who nominated her to the supreme court ?..
The question I would like answered is why did she dissent ?..
My guess is that it was the same reason that Roberts became the swing man and joined the liberals. Since Bush v.Gore, the court has come to be perceived as a 5-4 partisanship circus. Roberts made his attempt at correcting this from the right, Kagan moved center from the left.
Can we really dissect his lies instead of just making snarky commentary?
The guy is an ass, but he's entitled to his opinion - as wrong as it is. Our job is to point out how wrong it is without looking like spoiled brats in the process.
He's entitled to express his opinion, (he avoided using the word vagina) but how does this Missouri Republican stand on abortion and contraception? His rant is a generic template against governmental overreach, so you can plug in terms referring to a variety of governmental overreach issues. Consider the following:
"This is a crushing blow to freedom1 and an absolute insult2 to the dignity3 of all Americans.4 I am deeply disappointed in" state and/or federal legislature "for giving the government the authority to force citizens to" bear children and become parents against their will. " I believe this encroachment of government is unconstitutional and offensive.7 It puts the life and death health decisions of our families and loved ones in the hands of" religious zealots who pervert our laws for their own ends. "We don't want the" false "compassion of" anti-choice rhetoric "or the efficiency of the" Nazis "in our healthcare" or law enforcement "system[s]"
His footnotes were too adolescent and sophomoric to even warrant mockery.
