Now there's a quote that stands out.
Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) accused Republicans of hypocrisy for pairing protests against a health care mandate with demands for increasingly invasive restrictions on women's health.
"The only health care mandate they can embrace are transvaginal probes for women," O'Malley said Friday during a press call.
Of course, it's worth appreciating this as more than just a political zinger. For months, state officials -- most notably Republicans in Virginia, led by Gov. Bob McDonnell -- pushed measures intended to force women to have medically unnecessary ultrasounds before they could choose to terminate their pregnancies.
What if the women didn't want to have the ultrasound? Too bad. What if their physicians said the ultrasound served no medical purpose? It doesn't matter. Government would require women to make this purchase -- paid for out of their own pocket -- regardless of personal choice.
This, in the eyes of Republicans, was fine. But if President Obama follows Mitt Romney's lead, and creates a tax penalty for folks who can afford health insurance but refuse to buy it, that's an abusive, freedom-killing, communist plot that puts government between Americans and their doctors.

I opened Maddowblog for 1st time today just now and the picture of the transvaginal probe loaded first and just slammed my eyeballs on the otherwise blank screen.
It was quite a shock. Totally not what I was thinking about when it happened
lol me too! but it was dead on. How would you like one of these in your face? I think that was the point.
Fortunately for you Mario that is very unlikely to happen
"In your face" would be the least of your troubles.
Yep, probing my vagina sooo NOT government interference, requiring that folks get insurance and take "personal responsibility" for their health - so BIG BROTHER, ok I'll bite.....
Yesterday, while we were all celebrating (most of us, anyway) the American College of Physicians issued a statement in support of the Affordable Care Act.
Headline:
Every American Will Benefit from Supreme Court’s Decision to Uphold the Health Reform Law
American College of Physicians says there is “no excuse” to delay moving forward with full implementation

I am totally insulted by that quote. There shouldn't be any reference to the White House, but Republicans who have some of the sickest minds in the country.
Here's a quote that stands out:
Mitt Romney said this yesterday, in his response to the Supreme Courts' ruling, and nobody picked up on it.
I can't stand listening to the man, he's smarmy, patronizing, and talks as if he is an attendant in a psycho ward, speaking to "troubled" patients to get them to take their meds.
I tweeted immediately after he said that, because "transvaginal ultrasounds" was the first thing I thought of. Then again, I'm not the media ;-) And I was surprised that no one picked up on it, either, at least not that I saw.
PS. Maryland's governor is awesome :-)
I got Tom Corbett.
Blech.
He's a "probester."
Well, consider his target audience.
;-)

So the mandated probe procedure basically boils down to a vagina tax. Why can't repubicans think outside the "box"?
O'Malley in 2016!
Try to imagine for a moment what it would be like if the republinos take the presidency, 60 seat majority in the senate and a majority in the house. No more social security, no more medicare, vouchers for about $100 a month to cover all your health needs including prescriptions, no more teachers, police, or firefighters, in the public sector. Plenty in the private sector if you can afford to pay them. No more minimum wage, if you want a job you will work for what they tell you you will work for. My very first job while I was in high school, I started at $.90 an hour (about 1960), that will be the new minimum wage of today. The military will be on steroids bombing Iran, Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, with boots on the ground in all four countries. The more you make the more you keep and the lower your federal income tax rate if they keep the IRS. They may eliminate the IRS and you must pay a federal sales tax of roughly 15% on everything you buy including food. No more welfare checks, no more unemployment checks, and no more food stamps. The only abortions performed will be in one of two places: In a private hospital with the best doctors and medical staff and equipment available for the rich with money as no object or in the back ally with a coat hanger performed by a stranger for free. This is just the tip of the iceberg, it will get worse as time goes on. The best jobs for the 99% will be limo driver, butler, maid, gardener, pool keeper, horse groomer, and auto mechanic.
Thanks for the mention about Romney's statment on the Affordable Care ACT. I see that I am not the only one who thought the same thing. I can certainly understand what a whirlwind week it has been for Steve ad Maddow this week.
The Senate just passed the Transportation, Student Loan, Flood Insurance bill 74-16. It goes to the President. O-BAM-A
Get rid of discriminatory laws. Women should not be subjected to anything against their will. And only folks who do not buy insurance get "taxed". (Solve it with Medicare for all.) Is Prosac still in use? When some of these folks talk you wonder what has them so freaked out they are making up dire catastrophes and trying to create real ones if possible for everyone else. No more communist plots. We are now doing business with them. In this country money makes everything okay (ask wallstreet), so take a deep breath and relax. lol
I think the President should frame the ACA as a tax penalty the same as
when you don't pay your income tax. I think people could relate to that.
