Subheading:
SEIU buses in 30 people to stand on an Interstate bridge in Wisconsin to celebrate Supreme Court decision with light display. The rest of the anti Walker recall crowd has gone home to Michigan. Taking their drums with them!
Can you keep the lies to a minimum? I know it's hard, but try.
Let me guess,Irish is a republican.
And a confirmed liar, but that's what you said.
Some of The Irish have been at the pubs a little bit too much. He's upset because God invented alcohol, otherwise he could have been ruler of the world. Just kidding Irish, I know you have nowhere to voice your opinion anymore and that's why you have decided to join us. Join the Party.
You have a vivid imagination Angel. Funny stuff. But no, just as first posted, I am only here because of Ms Maddow's false presentation of the Nuns on the Bus story and subsequent Catholic bashing she did on this blog site. See Bill Doanhue vs the Rabbi. Each story was scandalously absent the full story. Both misrepresenting the facts or fullness of the truth. I could care less if Maddow resists the truth when it comes to politics. I know she and members of the MSNBC regular host (Schultz and O'Donnell) attended a White House meeting where they arranged the promoting of President Obama's re-election stategy. There are sources on the internet where the pictures are evidence. That's fine, we all know MSNBC is an arm of the democratic party. So what, ......it is the catholic bashing.
Maddow apologizes to faithfull catholics on air for misrepresenting the Nuns on the Bus story and apologizes for the Doanhue reprint of the Huff Post article (which was misleading and void of the entire story) that editing stuff that has gotten peopple fired already at NBC and MSNBC. Then I will leave. I don't even care to be here.
Apologize to Catholics Ms Maddow and stop the Catholic Bashing!
Au contraire, IrishPat7. The Catholic Church invites bashing. It would be impolite not to accept it.
#takeitfromanexCat
In this case, "geek", you are invalidated. There was no invitation sent out. The Church is correct, Ms Maddow and her guest were wrong. Let her admit it and move on to this next subject.
I really don't care what "case" you are talking about. I recently left the Catholic Church after having been raised in this religion. It was not an easy thing for me to do.
The Catholic Church has an open invitation to bashing. They are corrupt. They preach politics from the pulpit. They scare little old lady parishoners into being one-issue voters. They misrepresent the ACA. They shuffle around abusive priests to hide scandal. The bishop of my home diocese even made offensive comments about our President, comparing him to Hitler. The Catholic Church is wrong on so many levels, it is impossible to count. As long as they have a pervasive theme of exclusion, intolerance and anti-Christian views spewing forth from their homilies each week, they may consider themselves bash-worthy.
Good day.
Amen. It is really pathetic that our country doesn't stop the politics from the pulpit. The churches should lose their non-profit standing the minute they open their mouths on politics.
Too bad they still try to call themselves "christians".
What they don't show you is on the other side of the bridge (mirrored image so it reads correctly in your rear view mirror) the rest of the lit sign says:
"whether you want it or not!"
IrishPat, Do you think health care for all is a bad idea?
Hmmm, I was on that bridge that night and I don't remmber being bused in. I also don't remember being a member of SEIU or being from Michigan.
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/photo.php?fbid=10150926946562523&set=a.10150873306067523.416886.508927522&type=3&theater
I'm a retired academic vice president of a private (non-union) university and I have participated in at least 20 OLB events and have never seen ANYONE bussed in. OLB consists of like minded, informed, intelligent as hoc volunteers between the ages of 9 and 90 from all walks of life and all parts of the southeastern Wisconsin. It is the Republicans who pay their supporters, Democrats earn theirs.
The Catholic Church is capable of defending themselves, I don't think they need any help from bloggers. I loved my Catholic Church the smell of cedar pews, the little hat hooks, the small pencils and paper to play with. My favorite masses were those that used incense as they walked down the aisles with the incense holders. I had many a dispute with some priests, and when I found out they were making up scripture that wasn't in the original printed Bible, that I had from 1952. I stopped attending church. I do miss the beautiful old hymns and playing with the boy who sat next to me, though. I asked many questions, like 'Where were Jesus's shoes?" which caused quite a stir in the church, I'm not sure if that was me or my identical cousin who said that. Alot of people laughed quite profusely also, there was quite a lot of gum under those pews. I do not miss having to sit in the nuns' garbage can though.
As a person who was on that bridge holding one of the letters, I can tell you none of us were bussed in and we all live in Wisconsin, thank you very much! So contrary to your statement that all the anti-Walker folks have gone back to Michigan (whatever that means), we still live, work (and yes, I do work. In the private sector, even) and raise our families here. Before you ask for an apology from Ms. Maddow, I think an apology to me and all the others on that bridge with me is in order for defaming and flat out lying about us.
Yes, people do like free stuff, especially knowing that SOMEONE had to pay for it. But dream on, idiots, celebrate your hollow victory, cos it ain't gonna WORK!!! And, guess all you want, grumpyliberalbastard, but i'm no Republican, nor am i a Democrat. To be either would be a pipe dream.
ObamaTax is not only free but could also kill you. Under socialize medicine you have to get an approval from Barack Obama before you get treatments. You have to wait 120 days to get an operation. Good luck and stay alive.
Wow, the tinfoil hat brigade is out in full force tonight!
Can anyone with a brain explain how these cement-heads think that having to PAY for insurance means getting something for FREE?
My guess is you, Otto, and you Cindy, are idiots. DING DING DING! Amazingly I'm right! What do I win? Hopefully a world where your typing fingers fall off.
What you, not I because i'm not paying a dime, will PAY will be much less than it COSTS, therefore a part of it is FREE. And the rub of it is that if you or I do not want health insurance, too bad, the government insists you either pay for it, or pay the government because you don't want it. It's double-think in the extreme. New and better ways come out of the Republican and Democratic administrations to limit our freedom of movement, of choices, of actions. It's become ridiculous. If you want to own a rifle permit in the city of New York, it costs about $300. (we won't mention the background checks, which are not germane to my point.) Well, you may be a gun-control advocate and that is your right. But where does the $300 go, and why? Who is benefiting from that? And what has it to do with the original issue of the permit?
But it's all a moot point because none of it is gonna work. The machinations involved are out of anyone's hands. And grumpyliberalbastard (your choice of name), i won't call anybody an idiot on this blog ever again. Anger is best left in the trashcan.
If America hadn't falsely advertised that it was free, perhaps we wouldn't be in this situation. This land is your land, this land is my land. What idiot in your mind would actually choose a life of despair? You appear to believe that you are one of the lucky ones, Well, tell me Otto do you feel lucky? Lucky enough to be damning God's children?
Cindy, your post of waiting 120 days to get an operation makes no logical sense. If an opperating room is available you will get your operation. You may have to wait until one is available though but I don't think an operating room will sit empty to make you wait.
They do if it's a veterans hospital.
OMG grumpy, it was satire.......the subheading was meant as humor. Don't be so sensitive........... you gotta get out more. Heck, here's a tip. Tune into Howie Carr's radio talk program on 680 WRKO radio. Get a lesson on funny political satire and lowest common denominator joking around with politics. Even a "grumpylibbastard can remember Gilda Radner on SNL and "what's this I hear about presidential errections?"
And after all, everyone knows SEIU bused in tons of people from out of state during the Madison Wisconson rotundra protests . Like I said, lsiten to Howie Carr. The guy did investigative reporting for the Boston Herald and WRKO for 25 years. His family was under threat because of his constant meddling into the Whitey Bulger story (Bulger's brother was the speaker of the house in Mass for years) I got news for ya' bud, politics is dirty. And SEIU is up to it's "bus wheel hubs" in a lot of it.
I know as a progressive there is so little to smile about these days but heck, smile buddy! Life's too short.
Irish is a republican, BUT he's a Notre Dame fan first!!!!!!!!!!!! Go ND Irish!
Actually, it was the Kochs who were bringing people in, but thanks for playing! I smile every time one of you wingnuts gets something so egregiously wrong; it's a chance to pounce and once again reinforce the ways you guys just don't get it.
As for listening to that guy, your recommendation is the best guarantee that it will never grace these ears.
I know a man who was once a priest who went to Notre Dame and a minister. Also, someone who had a role in saving many lives in Vietnam. You don't get it and as far as drums , The Republicans have been the ones banging on them for decades. Not understanding, not communicating, not compromising, not talking, not being honest , , their own foolish pride is doing them in. I'm not sure which deadly sin that is. Anyways life is grand when you're on the side of the winners and not the losers. Come join our party.
Oromney care for all :)
When the USSC supported the Obama health care plan, I guess they supported the right wing fantasy of "death panels". You'd think that the idea of a policy that sends "grandpa and grandma" to soylent green land would get more than a few mentions from the right wing. So are, these references are few and far between. I guess sending grandma and grandpa off to Soylent green is not that important.
Doesn't this mean that Obamany Care won? Then why is Mitt so angry?
Romney is angry because it was his idea first, and the Reps won't let him take credit for it
Beautiful pic, I hope the World is also rejoicing for us. Maybe it gives everyone hope and a possibility for change. Now that we know the key to progression has always been inside the doorknobs that we collect.Captain Jack had it right when he decided to flip the ship around, I have no desire to go down with the ship.Let's instead turn this world upside down.
Now that the Roberts Court has affirmed that the government has the power to mandate purchases of private goods and services as long as it's structured as a tax, I propose that we put this new-found authority in the service of an explicit Constitutional right. For far too long, too many Americans have suffered from an inequal distribution of firearms, despite the Second Amendment's express exhortation to "keep and bear arms," in large part because income inequality in this nation has kept the poor and working classes from having the proper protection for themselves and their loved ones. We need to end this disparity now by applying the ObamaCare model immediately.
First, the government needs to issue a mandate that all households must own at least one firearm. We will need a federal agency to ensure that people aren't just buying cheap BB guns or .22 pistols, even though that may be all they need or want. It has to be 9mm or above, with .44 magnums getting a one-time tax credit on their own. Let's pick an agency known for its aptitude on firearms and home protection to issue required annual certifications each year, without which the government will have to levy hefty fines. Which agency would do the best job? Hmmmm … I know! How about TSA? With their track record of excellence, we should have no problems implementing this mandate.
Don't want to own a gun? Hey, no worries. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts says citizens have the right to refuse to comply with mandates. The government will just seize some of your cash in fines, that's all. Isn't choice great? Those fines will go toward federal credits that will fund firearm purchases for the less well off, so that they can protect their homes as adequately as those who can afford guns on their own. Since they generally live in neighborhoods where police response is appreciably worse than their higher-earning fellow Americans, they need them more anyway. Besides — gun ownership is actually mentioned in the Constitution, unlike health care, which isn't. Obviously, that means that the federal government should be funding gun ownership.
Now, I'm not naive; this kind of mandate system will be difficult to get through Congress. Even gun manufacturers might have some reservations about forcing everyone to buy their product, especially since we'll also be imposing massive price controls on their products. Only 7% of their revenues can be spent on administrative costs and "profit," whatever we decide that means. How else to make sure that we keep prices fair? We have an ace in the hole, though. We plan to get the ammunition industry on our side, running a $200 million ad campaign on behalf of the bill. They stand to make billions in the huge increase of target practice — which gun ranges will have to provide for free on at least one occasion a year per person, and for which the government will cover the range costs at, say, $5 per hour. (That's a loss for gun ranges, but they'll make it up in volume.)
We need to act now. Too many poor and working-class families face injury and death from lack of self-protection in areas of high rates of violent crime, so if you oppose this, you must hate the poor and hope they die. Since no one does that, we should expect to see everyone celebrating this effort to realize the vision of our Founders, which was obviously a top-down federal government that can order its citizens to do anything it wants.
Ed Morrissy
or how about at fat tax (which completely consistent with CJ Roberts energy example in his opinion)- so government says you have to weigh X pounds or less- and if you weigh more- then you pay a tax of $1000 a pound-
whether ACA is a good thing or a bad thing- do not really care- I do care about the unintended consequences of one of S Ct decisions dealing with the tax authority-
Another example of runaway judicial activism when the constitution is watered down by idealogy....America is on the same slide into the sh#t hole Europe is, and that is a FACT that is easily seen if one cares to take thier head out of the rebup vs democrat smokescreen they want us in.
Enjoying seeing this developing from Canada.
Up here we have BOTH universal healthcare & a chartered banking system.
We will not sue you if you take & adopt those ideas.
I am always overwhelmed by the ignorance of well meaning people who can't seem to really think for themselves, and are always sprouting out stuff they hear on air/online from others who are trying to sway public opinion in order to line their pockets or gain some other advantage. The well meaning folks don't take time to get the facts and then form their own opinion with some relevant basis behind it. It is very sad.
....because nobody gets information from other sources....sigh. If ppl don't think this whole obamacare debacle isn't cronyism at its roots they are nieve. Most government laws/policies are glazed with cutsie euphemisms like "the affordable healthcare act" but beneath the surface is absolutely the opposite. I like to ask liberals to name me one fiscally sound, accountable gov program, entity or policy. They usually get vapor lock.
I believe Social Security has been and is a sound program. The problem social security has is that money has always been taken from it to fund other programs. Now with more people retiring the other programs surviving on social security money need analyzed.
lol, really?....SS a "sound" program? It is neither sound nor fiscally responsible. It was one way Bill Cliinton was able to "balance" the budget during his term, Billy's big ol hand in its cookie jar. I just can't understand how liberals don't realize the big gov path cradle to grave entiltement road we are ten yrs behiind europes demize. Hell even Rahm Emanue isl union busting in Chicago. Bet you won't see that segment on Maddows show.

•Social Security had the biggest financial slide. The government would need
$22.2 trillion today, set aside and earning interest, to cover benefits promised
to current workers and retirees beyond what taxes will cover. That's $9.5
trillion more than was needed in 2004

Love the light show. I presume they voted.
As someone involved with the Overpass Light Brigade, I can assure you that they (we) all vote and voted. I can also assure you that we are all unpaid volunteers - a loose affiliation of grassroots activists - and have nothing to do with SEIU or other unions, though we do support a union's rights to exist. The HEALTH CARE FOR ALL message was in direct response to the SCOTUS decision, but also implicitly questions what the ACA *doesn't* do - it is not (yet) "healthcare for all." For that, we need to fight for a single payer system, similar to all other developed countries with robust economies. The idea that unions are always "bussing people in" for every action is a ridiculous lie, not even credible at any level, and certainly not the case regarding the Overpass Light Brigade.

Has Maddow covered this?....I'll eat my tv remote if she has.
Hell even Rahm Emanue is union busting in Chicago. Bet you won't see that segment on Maddows show.

Single payer does not specify a health care delivery mechanism, it specifies a health care financing mechanism..... We have a single payer system, its called Medicare for citizens over 65, and look at the mess and cost that involves. Denmark and Sweden populations are roughly 5 to 6 million and they pay an overall tax bill of 42% to 62%.....extrapolate that to this country of 300 million and an already lopsided taxaton where the federal gov is already collectiing $2.3 Trillion and SPENDING $3.5 Trillion. Utopian thinking with DRASTIC federal expenditures.
IrishPat has had to much Jamieson ......you have to forgive him
Ah, the ignorance of the knee-jerk response. The people on that bridge represent a cross-section of working people in Wisconsin. I know because I was there. It's easy to dismiss the actions of concerned citizens by casually dismissing them as beneath contempt.
And for all those people who "don't want health care" and will now be "forced" to have insurance to provide that health care? I don't believe they really exist. I don't know a single person, insured or uninsured, who doesn't want to see a medical professional when they are sick or injured. I know a lot of fearful people who believe what the insurance industry and the right-wing propaganda machine say about the ACA, though. But when people are asked about the components of the ACA, they overwhelmingly support them. So turn off Fox!
Hell even Rahm Emanuel is union busting in Chicago. Bet you won't see that segment on Maddows show.
http://news.investors.com/article/579655/201107271836/rahm-emanuel-union-buster-.htm?p=full
The idea that we'd need to bus political activists into Wisconsin is pretty funny.
Hell even Rahm Emanuel is union busting in Chicago. Bet you won't see that segment on Maddows show.

I can assure you, IrishPat7 We were not bussed in. I drove myself to the Ring Street overpass - as did the rest of the folks that joined the Overpass Light Brigade. As you do know, SEIU has nothing to do with the Overpass Light Brigade.
Hell even Rahm Emanue is union busting in Chicago. Bet you won't see that segment on Maddows show.

One of the only Republican ideas that they bring to the table regarding Health/Care is, "buying insur. across state lines". And then, the Dems never respond to it. Now come on folks, if the Repubs are pushing this idea you know there's gotta' be something fishy about it. Will someone please explain the pros & cons to this idea and why the conservatives are so hot for it!?
One major element of the across-state-lines thing is that you can nullify state-level insurance mandates, i.e. cover less stuff. In Wisconsin, for example, we have a number of state-level mandates, including autism insurance. If across-state-lines legislation passed here, then insurance companies from a state *without* an autism-insurance mandate could begin to sell insurance in Wisconsin that didn't cover autism. Once that happened, the in-state insurers could petition the insurance commissioner for exceptions to be able to compete... and then, voila, no need to cover autism any more. Interestingly enough, when across-state-lines legislation was being circulated in Wisconsin by Republican legislators after Walker came to power, it ended up not being introduced, partly due to opposition from Wisconsin-based insurers, who didn't much like the idea of letting out-of-state competitors get a foot in the door before being allowed to compete themselves. What's pro here, what's con? It all depends on which side you're on. Me, I've got a child with autism, and Wisconsin's autism insurance mandate has been a godsend for us.
P.S. I've stood on bridges with OLB myself, though missed the one in the picture. Not a union-bus to be seen.
I can buy car insurance across state lines drastically reducing the premiums....make the leap. Its not the ONLY idea from republicans. Create high risk pools, and regulate\cap premiums, and clamp down on medical litigaton. If liberals think the NRA lobby is powerful, the insurance, pharma, and lawyer(medical malpractice lawyers) lobbyist wouldn't allow proper reforms from either side of the isle. Why do you think big pharma ceo's had a seat at what was supposed to be cspan covered health care legislation? Oh, thats right Mr. Obama, you didn't want the taxpayer being screwed.

Epic fail Mr. Obama....wonder why. Cough, cronnyism, cough....bought, cough, by corporate America...cough. If this was on the Maddow show, once again i'll eat my tv remote...hell, even my computer mouse.
To achieve health care reform, "I'm going to have all the negotiations around a big table. We'll have doctors and nurses and hospital administrators. Insurance companies, drug companies -- they'll get a seat at the table, they just won't be able to buy every chair. But what we will do is, we'll have the negotiations televised on C-SPAN, so that people can see who is making arguments on behalf of their constituents, and who are making arguments on behalf of the drug companies or the insurance companies. And so, that approach, I think is what is going to allow people to stay involved in this process." President Obama
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/promise/517/health-care-reform-public-sessions-C-SPAN/
Let us start this conversation with some painful truth; Romney’s farther envy drives him to achieve the one thing that eluded Romney senior, a truly self-made-man, that is the presidency of the United States. Mitt Romney is not a self-made-man. He is a product of his father’s largess, and knowing this to be true haunts Mitt obsessively. Mitt Romney’s painful obsession can only be ameliorated by achieving the one thing that eluded his father; being elected by the voters of America to be president.
I want to view this obsession primarily through the national healthcare law, but I cannot ignore other bizarre behavior that gives credence to this argument. Romney is so desperate to achieve his goal that he has shown a willingness to destroy his personal integrity to the point that his integrity has become a national joke. Romney believes in only one thing; the need to be free of his father’s superiority. It is an unachievable goal. Romney senior, besides being a self-made-man, had incredible integrity and empathy. The son’s willingness to abandon these virtues that guided both of his parents leaves him without a moral anchor; to drift aimlessly on the sea of righteous conviction.
Obama’s healthcare law was modeled after Romney’s Massachusetts healthcare law. Romney spoke eloquently about the importance of the mandate, and that had flashes of virtuous integrity if viewed from a stand-alone-perspective. That was not the reality. When that plan was being proffered; the politics of the time suggested that it would be a positive achievement for a presidential run.
The political winds shifted drastically regarding healthcare. Republican policy had shifted. Driven by the financial collapse a new paradigm was taking shape; government supported programs were the primary cause of America’s distress. They needed to be eliminated at all cost. Very wealthy Republicans, knowing that America’s financial pain required someone to blame, quickly embraced the needy as the scapegoat and poured tons of money into the project.
Romney’s signature achievement was now a Republican pariah. Romney’s father and mother would never have disavowed their son’s achievement if they had still been living. Mitt Romney did it himself. Sadly for him, winning the presidency was worth more than his own integrity and the values espoused by his parents, who had given him everything.
Now for the healthcare debate itself. No one is against the idea of everyone receiving healthcare with a few exceptions. There are groups of human beings so filled with hatred for our black president, that if the healthcare was absolutely free; they would oppose it. So, for purposes of rational discussion, I will ignore them.
One size does not fit all is a Republican political argument, but does it have merit? Medical care for human beings is the same all over the world. The teaching hospitals all teach the same medical disciplines. If we can agree; that accurately reflects medicine, than we must conclude there are other factors involved. The two that come to mind are disparate costs among states, and politics that exist among these same states.
The plan as outlined would pay 100% of the cost the first year, and approximately 80/90% of the cost after that. To capture this fact in its proper financial perspective, we must remove it from the political influence so that we may better assess the financial reality.
If the readers of this article turned a page in their newspaper and read the following; an around the world cruise for free the first year, and another reduced the by 80/to 90% the second and third years; how many would jump at it? I believe close to everyone.
Now the same ad with a political slant; your acceptance of this bargain will require that Barrack Obama, who is making this cruise possible, be elected to a second term. Anyone that just paused is not doing justice to the healthcare legislation!
Romney is liberal progressive lite..as was GW Bush, the last true fiscally conservative president was Calvin Coolidge. America has been on a big gov federal takeover slope ever since...and we as Americans and the middle class have been looted from and told lies by the corporate oligarchy that is modern day democrat and republicans who try to hide their power grabs with names like "the affordable health care act" and the "patriot act"......ppl really need to wake up and quit tossing bullsh*t over the isle and bring back gov BY the ppl. Our only hope for that is in the form of ppl like Ron Paul....a true contitutionalist and statesman who can stand on his merit on every issue in his career and not on the winds of political change and correctness.
Barack Obama is a sham and an anti-American.

Hey Irish I live in WI and the light brigades happen on a regular basis. There are many activities in WI that are still going despite the stolen recall election. The Walker recall was but one battle in a much larger fight. We in WI will never give up and never give in. In case you haven't gotten the memo we are indeed in a Class war and it's not just WI or the US it is world wide. We the people have had it. We won't go quietly away into poverty as unscrupulous fat cats continue to fleece us. We seek to create a better world and we will accomplish it.
Well, Rachel, how does it feel to know that the Tea Party was correct? The mandate under the commerce clause, which Obama stressed WAS CONSTITUTIONAL was deemed false by SCOTUS. In fact, Obama insisted that as a Const. scholar, he knew that his mandate under the commerce clause was legal. The court upheld what the Tea Party knew all along. The only reason that the fake "Affordable" health care act still stands is because SCOTUS re-defined Obama's mandate into something Obama insisted it wasn't - a tax. Obama insisted it was not a tax, and I thought he was a scholar and a genius, to boot.
.....no Dinakim, he's just another bought and paid for politician who sold his soul to sit in the white house who now has to give special interest payback through the wallets of taxpayers while trying to pull the wool over the eyes of Americans who still believe there is a difference between democrat and republican by "throwing crumbs" to the drones who buy into the pandering that is "the affordable health care act"......sigh, such a shame ppl are so blind.
