Actor and musician Andy Griffith has died at his home on Roanoke Island, North Carolina at age 86.
Mr. Griffith's preternatural ease in front of the camera and innate decency made him a star not just for years, but for decades. The lesson here: Be who you are, without apologies and without patronizing your audience, and they'll love you for it.
There's a lot to be said for providing good company.

Awww, RIP - I'll always love Andy Griffiths...
Great actor. From Face in the Crowd and No Time for Sergeants to his TV role as Andy Taylor, he had it all. Thanks for the memories Andy - R.I.P. (I feel like part of my childhood just died).

A Face in the Crowd. That is a great movie. The best work Griffith ever did was playing Larry "Lonesome" Rhodes. If any of you have not seen this movie put it in your Netflix queue now! You find out the reason Keith Olberman used to call Glen Beck "Lonesome Rhodes".
You'll be missed Andy.
As I said below, just set your DVR for TCM 1:30 AM Thursday Mporning -- and yes, it IS that good, best thing he's ever done.
Someone wrote "R.I.P. Lonesone Rhodes" on Twitter...I thought for a second that Glenn Beck was dead.
This feels like loosing a lovable family member. I imediately thought of Ron Howard & how he must feel.
And FACE IN THE CROWD is scheduled for TCM at 1:45 AM, July 5th (EDT).
Interesting juxtaposition of stories, with this one about Andy Griffith right above the Joe Walsh story. If we're measuring people being quality human beings, they're at opposite ends of the spectrum. Andy Griffith made substantial contributions to the quality of life in America.
Otis the town drunk got more respect in Mayberry than most of us get from the Got zero Plans party. Andy and that little town seemed a haven from the craziness of the world.
In my world the way I choose to view it Andy Griffith is no more dead than are Don Knotts, Bob Denver, James Arness, Don Adams, Cary Grant, etc. and for me none ever will be.
Mayberry and its inhabitants were more real than most places and most people in today's America.
Aw shucks no more homespun wisdom. Goober and Gomer as well as Opie are no doubt beside their-selves with grief.
Will Barney play the fife as Wally drives the Hearst down memory lanes to tranquil acres? Will Apple Pie and Watermelon spitting contests become things of the past(or have they already?).
Will the ABA hold a memorial service on the steps of the Supreme Court as they lay Matlock to rest? Will the shakiest gun in the west do a twenty one gun salute?
Good bye Andy.
How many people get to leave a mark for being nice? Not enough.
In a world where people make news by nip slips, rude comments, theft, or just bad behavior, this guy was just... Nice.
He'll be missed.
Andy Griffith: A fine actor. Could be naturally funny, pathetic, likable...and what a fabulous group of players in "Mayberry."
Rest in Peace Andy Griffith. Your a big lost in the industry. Someone made a memorial page on his behalf on Evertalk. https://apps.facebook.com/evertalk
