To honor the 4th of July, Maddow Blog will likely be pretty quiet today (even if John Adams thinks we're celebrating on the wrong day). If there's some major news development, I'll be around, but assuming it's a slow news day, don't expect any new content until tomorrow.
In the meantime, here's a musical interlude: "America the Beautiful" from one of my personal favorites, Keb Mo.

Steve, enjoy the day with your family and friends. You deserve it.
I second pol-4134612 above.
One note: the NYT published the text of the Declaration of Independence today, as is their usual practice, and we read it through this time. "Taxation without representation" as a grievance is lower on the list than the king's not permitting FREE IMMIGRATION to the Colonies.... Pretty ironic, heh? Since the main complaint of the tea party is against immigrants, legal and illegal.
Not to mention that any claims of "taxation without representation" are false; these people are represented, just not strongly enough to steer the country (thank whatever deity you like for that) and those they have representing them lack the power to wave a wand and change reality to fit a wingnut's fantasies.
How did you find out that Tea Partiers are against legal immigration? Does anyone else know?
Because they're vociferously in favor of profiling based on skin color; you can't swing a proverbial cat without smacking the poor thing into Tea Party idiocy on this point. And to be clear, they're anti-BROWNSKINNED immigration; they seem to have no problem with Irish or Lithuanian or other pale-skinned immigrants, just the Latinos.
Keb Mo music and that video was much appreciated. Thanks.
Yes, this country still does not understand, we elect our representatives and they tax us for the running of the government for US. The T.P. ers seem to think what we have in this country is bad. We need government and they act like things will cost less if we privatize it. Capitalism is for profit, government isn't.
The Republicans are showing us how to do nothing but grandstand and stump against the President (an American), that was duly elected by Americans, not by fraud. So, It seems clear that T.P. ers must just hate a whole lot of Americans, when they feel wrongly robbed of their entitlement.
The royals were oppressing us, because they imposed taxes and laws, but we had no vote.
We voted for this president and his agenda, which is what they want to squash by any means.
