Obama must do more than use populist anger at the 1% as a cudgel against Romney.
He must put in place real reform defunding the Wall Street Mafia seeking to strangle our democracy.
How about a 99% tax on all compensation beyond 500K for those in the finance industry, with a penalty of 2% of annual bank profits when efforts to extend further forms of compensation to the employee beyond 500K. This would include delayed compensation such as unrealized stock options, or contracts with former employees or third parties with compensation exceeding these limits.
The rationale is the same as for smoking. In the same way that society bears the cost of high health care for those with lung cancer, bonuses and high compensation incentivizes gambling with bank funds that causes massive social costs.
We need to start recovering those costs by removing the compensation incentive for behaviors that undermine the stability of our banking system.
I agree, so let's do our part and give him a congress willing to put the country ahead of the wealthy sponsors and get rid of any who signed the unAmerican pledge of Norquist.
That's where my campaign dollars are going, though it is tough to send money to centrists from the school of Clinton "third way" BS- the kind of thinking that had a lot to do with getting us here.
I have seen the comments about being a VIP and the person making coments about a "nails person" and wondered if they were comments from actual people attending this function. Could it be Rachel you are correct in thinking this was a setup? Just think about the "nails person" comment, this person does not want to give their name. To me those comments got the best of the newspaper. I would love to believe this and hate to find both comments were hoaxs. But I am going to assume the newspaper verified this information before it was printed.
Rachel your story about the eighteen year old delegate; that I believe. It appears the Republicans do not want this young man to attend the convention unless his vote is guaranteed for Romney. What is this? I thought this is free America and having him sign paperwork saying you are voting for this guy at the convention WOW the Republicans are desperate. Thank goodness he has someone there for him, his mother. Also he should contact Ron Paul's office and tell them what happen. Since I have never been a delegate, I do not know the rules but it appears if he was elected to go to the convention, how is it told to him he cannot attend if he does not sign some paperwork saying his vote is guaranteed for Romney. When you want to defeat someone so bad all kinds of rules and regulations are thought of to make sure that person wins. Did they send the same paperwork to Santorum??????? I would love to know the answer to that question.
Let the entire Bush tax cut expire. That so called fifty percent of non-tax paying people would drop dramatically thus showing the tea party how their rant is aimed as much at them as anyone else.
By the way am I the only one that imagines how well Mitt could play the part of Nero?
So the Democrat strategy is to demagogue rich people? I love it.
Let's also denounce all the rich Democrats in Congress as out of touch, starting with Nancy (insider trading) Pelosi, and ending with John (tax dodger) Kerry.
Sure, a demagogue just like George Washinton and the founding fathers "demagoging" about rich elites in London with a stranglehold on America. Listen pal, you can't call something demagoguery simply because what they are saying is true, and the truth hurts. Look at what the Wall Street mafia is doing to our country. You want to defend that? Really? It's socialism for the rich you are standing up for, you know. How's that deregulation thing doing for your 401K or your home value? WakeTF up and see you is yanking your chain.
Tell me. What is it exactly that Hannity, O'Reilly and Limbaugh do? Hint. It starts with a "d". They are shills for the plutocracy who run this country.
The 1% has tipped their hands. They can either take their hands off the throat of our democracy, or they can line up in Concorde Plaza.
Their choice. They seem to be choosing the latter as the swell the lines of the poor and the unemployed and dispossessed.
