Report calls for reforming system that lets people lose their homes over small tax debts. I am so mad about this. The very banks that wouldn't be if it weren't for our tax payer dollars bailing their crooked butts out. And now they want to suck up homes from everyone so they can sell them for big profits down the road when the housing market picks back up. Again something for the wealthy to buy cheap and cash in on us again. grrrrrrrrrr
'Awww' is right! :)
Some of the stories before that one... not so awww. Except Rick Perry being a baby.
The Romney fundraising tour of the country's most exclusive wealthy vacation spots continues, with events in Sun Valley, Idaho today, Hamilton , Montana tomorrow and Jackson Hole, Wyoming on Thursday. The Hamilton event is sponsored by Charles Schwab, who has a ranch nearby in the Bitterroot Valley, and is one of the largest personal contributors to the Republican Party, along with his superpac.

When does the Romney campaign have a fundraiser scheduled at Darth Vader's pad?
for rick perry to invision any stupid idea of ever becomming president was flushed down the toilet. what an idiot.
330sf apartments? That is what? About 3 times the size of a 6' x 8' jail cell? Sounds delightful. A deluxe jail cell. Perfect place for the "nails ladies" and others of that ilk to rest between shifts.
Speaking of NASA--alien life debunked.

Score one for diligent scientists.
Just watched Rachel's synopsis of the "Rich Romney Fundraiser Events". Okay. The one thing she's doing dead wrong is to give the Romney campaign an "out" on this by continuing to repeat her joke that "maybe this is 'Billionaires for Romney' punking of his campaign." Hate to break it to you Rachel, but yes, indeed, there IS a psycho Santa Claus for "wealthy only" in the room. Her repeated joking about how this just couldn't be for real from Romney has undercut a very important, factual point: Romney is showing his true colors. Romney doesn't give a damn about the 99%.
While I'm happy her show assembled all these quotes from various news sources on all the rich cars, and rich people's stupid comments at these fundraisers... the way it comes across is that she and people on her show were afraid they'd lose their jobs because of ire from their corporate bosses unless they *did* imply repeatedly that "this just *can't* be real!" One of the clearest examples yet of what Romney is all about... and she undercuts its veracity with repetition, and with detailing the lengths the spoof group will go to in spoofing, and keeps saying "maybe it's them!" Thanks Rachel---you just did the Romney campaign a decent-sized favor: you started the "doubt train" (which the GOP and Fox pundits rely on) rolling on a very important, revealing aspect of Romney's real agenda and supporters.
MSNBC is a corporate enterprise and NBC is in business with Bain Capital.
I'm a forever fan of satirical repartee.

Oooh, now watcha gonna do? Go to Fox News? Read Hannity's forums? Subscribe to GBTV? Do tell! Do tell!
I didn't know that anyone was listening to Rick"Ooops" Perry any more.
But what if he's right? Texas has vast areas of arid, unused land. If money was block-granted to the states, Texas could set up a number of large um ... "treatment centers" to which the uninsured could be sent by rail (after being
rounded upenrolled, I meant to say enrolled) and not only treated, but put to work. This would simultaneously reduce unemployment and eliminate (maybe not the best word, but I'm typing fast) the uninsured population problem. Someone could be hired to translate"Arbeit macht frei" into the local dialect while adding "Y"all" on the end, and signs could be posted in the reception areas. So maybe ole Rick ain't so dumb after all.Not only do happy people dance, but dancing makes you happy. Matt's a lucky guy!
Re: Outsourcing.
How could we prevented private companies from taking stimulus funds and using them overseas? By regulating them more closely than we did. Is this what Herr Caterpillar is saying we should have done? He would have been shouting from the Hampton's rooftops about loss of freedom and excessive government control. The folks who did this weren't the nail salon workers and other 99% types who "don't get it." They were HIS PEOPLE.
double awwww!
i am such a sucker for videos like that. they keep me smiling all day.
Tricia, here is a story out of Sunbury, Pa. that should interest you, compassionate conservatism at its worst - http://dailyitem.com/0100_news/x546505364/Conviction-will-mean-eviction
Oh, by all means let the drug dealers stay. :)
It's one thing if you are in posession - using, but don't you think if you are dealing that it is a little different? And most likely if you are convicted, you will have no need for an apartment for a while anyway - you will have a bunk in jail. Don't see the real issue here and I am not that conservative (actually more on the libertarian side). IF drugs were legal (pot for sure) then you would not be buying it from a guy in an apartment or street corner just like most folks don't buy moonshine from the guy in apt 3A. AND you would need an ID ....like booze. Right now in Chicago a 10 yr old can very easily buy pot or coke but not beer because some yahoo is not selling beer in an alley.
Perhaps if more people watched the APOD video, there would be less of the other stuff.....
Health care coverage and the plight of the working class poor: "You make too much", while "You make too little".
I would like SOMEONE to have the discussion or debate about HOW CAN MITT ROMNEY RUN FOR ANY OFFICE, ESPECIALLY THE PRESIDENT OF AMERICA, WHILE HOLDING MONEY IN ANOTHER COUNTRY????? !!!!!!! You should be all about and in America or your not. It says to me that......hey I want to be your president and commander in chief..but.. I share my wealth in other countries banks....because I want to and don't trust American banks....!!!!!
Just a thought: Liberals seem to be deserting Huffington Post blogs. Libs have been deserting HP for the past 2-3 years. There's no other really good blog to go to for those of us of the liberal persuasion. This could become a go to blog for liberals if MSNBC put some effort into it. This could become a blog destination point. Currently these blogs are nearly dead in the water and seem to be in danger of completely submerging. Glug, glug, glug. Interest in these MSNBC blogs at this point is declining to near zero activity, generally speaking, although the article on Barney Franks' vows anomalously received over 3000 comments. If MSNBC put some effort into publicizing these "Lean Forward" blogs on their programs, perhaps interest could be heightened. This blog could perhaps become more than a moldering shipwreck, if someone at MSNBC said ..."Make it So."
I very much agree.
As a former development manager at a large software company, it baffles me why they don't do this. I think they mostly view it as a means to drive viewership and intensify buzz about their brand. In short they are interested in the marketing value.
There would be great social value for political social media site which allowed spontaneous expressions of political interests to cluster together. MSNBC content could provide a central point of reference, like the spine of a book. It both provides specific factual material to orient all clusters of contributors with common perspective to the specifics on a particular issue.
If whoever @WillatWork reports to is interested, feel free to check out my bona fides. If you are still using anything from MSN, I know folks who have become mucky mucks there and more importantly know the arguments that are convincing and the questions both technical and business model that would be asked. I would be happy to pitch whatever proposal you have for them. I think there is a sound business model that could make this mutually interesting both for MSNBC and MS.
Imo, Perhaps the best pitch to make would be that as this blog got to rockin' ... it could help to raise the declining viewership #'s for MSNBC.. The more buzz that could be generated around these now nearly embalmed blogs, the better for MSNBC. Perhaps it is .... simply too simple .... an equation. It's elementary really. Liberals are yearning and in search of a good blogspot. Libs. are aching to complete the exodus away from Anti Obama Arianna's HuffPo. If they are offered a good blog, they'll perhaps come in droves. The point is that no other effort than merely mentioning and advertising the blogs on the regular MSNBC programming would be necessary to improve the utter failure of these blogs. . It would be ... so simple ... to give these blogs a kick start. It seems all that is lacking is the will to do so. MSNBC apparently just doesn't want to be bothered with this opportunity....
Software development is not MSNBC's core strength- but they understand content, traffic and advertising driven business models. It would be in MS's interests to tailor some social media software so that there is a bridge between passive mass media (video) and social mass media (tweets and FB streams). For MS it would exploit a possible chink in FB's dominant position defenses. So they have a strategic reason to spend a few million dollars to see if there is an opportunity to exploit. Inside MS, I saw schemes 10 times more speculative which got funding and staffing.
The pitch to MSNBC is pretty easy- at the cost of a few extra intern positions, they get a multimillion dollar social media system that MSNBC provides the kind of content they already provide to their blogs. The pitch to MS is more difficult because they are investing far more in money and valuable developers. But could be pulled off depending on what their current large scale strategic goals are. If my guesses are correct about those, it has a pretty good shot.
Anyway, I don't expect my email will be flooded with MSNBC inquiries. Personally, I doubt MSNBC staff have much time to read these threads for such brilliant solutions to the problems of the universe.
Drone pilots get medals,
Congressional oversight AWOL (story- esquire 7/10)
If Drones existed in the 80s, you can bet Reagan would be using them liberally in South America in the 70s to kill leftists threatening US backed dictatorships.
Would you feel the same?
The opposite of love is not hate. It's indifference. That's what paralyzes the true left- we are just too into our self interests that we reduce justice to a political calculation of interests and practical implementability.
Sure, we saw how "oversight" was used in a reprehensible way with Bolton. And sure, there might be leaks on drone missteps, but the Executive branch's covert activities must be accountable, regardless which party is in power. There is a heck of a lot of resources being pumped into secret intelligence gathering and covert military actions. It is virtually a black box to anyone but those in the small groups in the administration responsible for their execution. Enormous power in the hands of the faceless unaccountable few. That is a formula for severe abuse of power- I don't care how virtuous they seem to be.
To off set the new voting laws why don't the democrats have a number to call if you need a voters I.D. card, and have crew to go and help them get one while there is time?
A confusing but important ongoing news story (that probably deserves some coverage somewhere besides the internet), the LIBOR rates manipulation by Barkleys. Apparently since 2007 banks have been submitting artificial (and very self-serving) inter-bank interest rates, while regulators knew and did nothing.
Just more big bank unethical but not technically illegal money making? For the man on the street, it may appear that way, but it's one more part of the "too big to fail" phenomenon that brought on the banking collapse, bailouts, etc.
Try last weekend's UP w/ Chris Hayes...
