Texas has more residents without access to basic medical care than any other state in the country -- by a fairly significant margin. Gov. Rick Perry (R), for reasons that defy comprehension, is eager to keep it that way.
After writing a letter to the Obama administration declaring his intention to ignore the Affordable Care Act, the right-wing governor went on Fox News to explain, "If anyone had any doubt, we wanted to put it clearly to bed that Texas wasn't going to be a part of expanding socializing of our medicine. So we're not going to participate in any exchanges. We're not going to expand Medicaid."
On the exchange, Perry may not understand the policy details, but by refusing to create a marketplace where private insurers can compete for customers' business, he's simply inviting more federal control over Texas' health care system. Why the governor wants Washington to set up Texas' exchange for Texans remains unclear. For that matter, the fact that Perry thinks competition between private insurers is tantamount to "socializing" suggests someone might want to buy the poor guy a dictionary.
But it's the Medicaid decision that arguably matters most. Again, it's not at all clear if Perry understands the policy consequences of his posturing, but the Texas governor is effectively announcing that Texas hospitals will lose nearly $1 billion in funding for one reason: Perry wants fewer poor people in his state to be able to see a doctor.
Perry's "plan," in other words, is to make Texas hospitals and struggling Texas families suffer because he has an ideological axe to grind and may want to run for president again in 2016.
This is just madness.

The healthcare reform just passed (is) caring for the poor. This health care reform was an issue with president Roosevelt, and he couldn't pass it. Everyone, should be able to get medical coverage for emergencies without question, pass or fail. This is the issue, nothing else. And some people couldn't get medical treatment because they had no resources. Now, with Obama care, you can get accepted into treatment without question. If you can't understand that then go back to school.
Apparently he only believes in one god" Rick Perry" the self serving little SOB believes in fine wines and kick backs from the oil companies from that he allows to work with less safety regulations, and who cares about the ecology state of mind. While he sits here touting about our rainy day fund. Who cares schools that are cutting back teachers and the education level has gone down. who cares if little Johnny can't read, he just like jaskass bushone dumbass after another
Perry is a kiss ass. He is well aware that illegals are here and gather at small buidings where people pick them up to do work for them. A block from the building is a bus station for the mexicans to go back and forth to mexico. I am sure there are many more places beside the one in my city. We also have a Charity Hospital for Dallas County. Not good for people who go in when they are very ill because the wait in very long, but atleast it is there to help when they have no insurance or money. Most of the people you see are illegals. They are even adding a new hospital beside the old one. What this man says is nothing but bull crap and it is all for the Repubs in Washington.I am not saying this man has a heart, but he never changed anything done before he took office. As much as I dislike this man and have never voted for him, he is talking out of both sides of his mouth. Tax payers pay for this hospital and I am happy to help out, as are any tax payer would. We are suppose to help the poor no matter who they are are where they come from. As for those who make very little money and can't be treated there, we need a Health Care here in Texas Mr. Perry .
Perry is an idiot. He really hasn't grown up much since his high school days. But his wife is wily and manipulative (redacted that b word) and she (with the help of a few big dollar pharmaceutical friends) has managed to steer his health care policies to their most profitable end.
I can honestly say that no one to whom I am related will admit to voting for Perry (though my older brother is suspect as he has recently jumped on the evangelical crazy train). Since his failed presidential campaign, I've heard quite a few republicans say they'll never vote for him again. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure they can find an equally moronic candidate for next time.
To adapt my grandmother's favorite sentiment for our governor to one more palatable to my sensitive atheist sensibilities, "Dog bless him..". (If you're from Texas, you know how that sentence ends.)
Life is cheap in Texas.
I hate this state, and I hate this governor! I can't wait finish until I finish college and can get the hell out of here! I have no medical coverage because of this S.O.B.!
Also, for everyone bashing Texas, please remember there ARE some intelligent democrats, good people, AND even intelligent Republicans here. Just not enough to vote out this bastard..
Don't make fun of us, pity us instead.
Surely the powerful and -- by any standard of measurement -- excellent medical facilities in Houston and Austin won't stand by while a billion dollars of federal money slips through the State's fingers... They've got to have some arm-twisting capacity for their dimwit governor.
I hope the dying line up on the governor's doorstep and utter their final words to him: "Thank you for caring so little, that the Lord can take me sooner than I deserved."
Wake up America. The GOP is trying to kill us off with bigotry and hate.
Ok but the main question is who is going to vote for him ever again as Texas will go under?
