Tonight's guests:
Mudcat Saunders, Democratic strategist, former advisor for John Edwards' presidential campaign, currently advising Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) challenger
Christopher Rowland, Boston Globe DC bureau chief
Senior producer Cory Gnazzo shares a preview of tonight's show:

i heard that one of the games Dick Cheney had at the Mitt Romney fundraiser was The Republican Hunger Games: he gave all the guests some guns and last one NOT to get shot in the face wins!
You mean Mitt Romney isn't telling the truth?
Be still my heart. :(
This from a guy who watches Maddow for his info, Maddow who lies about everything to prove her points!
In the article Maddow, Heroine, Tilts at Windmills Betsy Woodruff gives us an example:
In an appearance on Meet the Press, Maddow got in a testy spat with Republican strategist Alex Castellanos, who explained why her statistic are misleading. Men work, on average, three hours more per week than women do, he noted, and they often enter more lucrative fields, such as science and engineering. He added that in some age brackets, single women actually make more than their male counterparts. But when marriage is added to the equation, the income gap rears its head, perhaps because women with children tend to choose jobs that allow more flexible schedules.

The fact that you're using the National Review as your source tell us how far from the facts you are, troll.
Fortunately for the GOP, they still can pick a different candidate at the convention. Mitt does not inspire confidence or trust, has not been consistent on much beyond distorting everything POB has done or said, and his unwillingness to say what he is going to do is as maddening as his unwillingness to accept responsibility for what he has already done.
Ok I'm going to attempt to end this before it starts. So we now know that Romney was indeed connected to Bain Capital after 1999. Now you can argue that yeah, he may have been CEO, Chairman, Santa Claus, Whatever, but wasn't actually involved in any board decisions because of his physical presence in Utah.. That's all well and good. So does that mean a president can order a missile strike in Syria, and then deny he had anything to do with the decision because he wasn't at the pentagon when the order went out? I mean seriously.
from a Canadian point of view id like to add that our prime minister here is just like a MIT romney. we are mired in backward thinking conservatism but don't let anybody think that our health care system here is anything but pretty damn good and im old and poor so good luck to you all my dear american friends you've got a fight on your hands
Satirical Political has a great political cartoon explaining that Mitt Romney the other day thought he was at another NAACP meeting: the National Association for the Advancement of Corporations as People. (found on Buzzflash).
I think Satirical Political is onto something, especially when this NAACP sounds like something straight out of Citizens United. I wonder if any of the wealthiest corporate executives, or the crackpots at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, will pick this up and form their own "NAACP", you know, just to put, and keep, the members of the real NAACP in their "place"? Because, you see, Citizens United was really a retro slaveowner ruling, one pushed by those with a southern plantation owner mentality (and "morality").
Moving pictures of the neo republican gala in Wyoming? Thanks, now I'll be having nightmares for at least a week.
Heh, wow, Mudcat was awesome. That guy needs to run for something.
I wanna know what he was gonna say that cant be said on television... I was waitin for it.
Regarding Mudcat Saunder's use if the way-over-used "hard working middle class:" I don't know how much of the middle class is left, but I do know from over 30 years experience that a good many middle class jobs don't require hard work (yes, there are some exceptions). By contrast, our hardest working Americans are poor/near poor. Upward class mobility is pretty much a thing of the past. With rare exception, moving ahead takes certain advantages that are out of reach of the poor. Most of those jobs that were once the path into the middle class are gone. A growing chunk of the population is now priced out of a college degree, and without that, there simply is no upward mobility. Like Reagan said, "It's a new morning in America," and it's a pretty dark and terrifying one at that.
Huh? Most (including myself) middle-class people DO work very hard. Do you really think being a nurse or teacher is an easy job? I've done both (currently an RN) ... they are not. This takes nothing away from the poor, who also work very hard to earn a meager living. I think what you're discounting is the comparison between poor and middle-class ... which may be a difference of, say, $50,000 - $100,000 ... whereas the rich and very rich earn a MUCH greater share of the profits and portion ... millions or even billions. The middle-class and poor have MUCH more in common than either class does with the rich ... it isn't even close. Good policy benefitting the middle-class will also help to increase wages for lower income jobs and provide for better protections, in terms of rights and benefits ... just as good policy for the poor will provide more to the middle-class.
Cory, you're on a roll with some great guests booked while ProducerGuy1's been out. Loved Mudcat Saunders!
Would love to see more of "Mudcat"!!! I'm getting tired of Dems and Libs being too timid to attack or fight back against what is so easy to attack and fight back against. After all, why do we think many Repub voters vote for Repub legislators? ... despite being too stupid to realize their voting against their own economic interests and having their rights stripped ... it's because they respect someone who stands up for themselves. And defending yourself with "bare knuckles", as Mudcat does ... is pretty damn easy when you have the truth on your side.
Oh hell yes! I'd love to see Mudcat and Carville on the same program. Muddcat was awesome. I want him back on even if Rachel has to make up a reason to have him back on. Carville has a new book out and he's relentless in his criticism of the failed polices of the Republicans that have decimated the middle class.
Democrats can only hope that their current leaders would take lessons from Mudcat and be on offense in both the campaign and in legislation, and not be so weak.
Um, the podcast that uploaded tonight is last night's show, just in case anyone would like to correct that. Kinda jonesing over here.
You gotta have "Mudcat" back on. PLEASE have Mudcat back on. He's awesome!
Great show tonight Ms. Maddow. Love your snark at the Romney fundraiser in Wyoming with Darth Vader. "Oh yes, they know who they are." Awesome!
Let’s declare War on something
I just got off the phone with my ninety-some-year-old mother. I am close to sixty. My post pic is from 1980. I still live in 1980. Two problems. One: She can still remember me sucking my thumb, not fun for me. And Two: She keeps comparing America to Rome ! ? Tonight she said, “ Continuous war ended Rome. This America was started by war and I guess it must end it’s self by war as well. “
First of all , I did not suck my thumb !! I was just making sure it was clean, that is all. . .
On the abortion issue segment, there must be some mistake. Republicans have spent decades calling for government to get out of our personal lives. Surely they wouldn't even think of going to the wild extreme of legislating intensely personal reproductive decisions!
Ever heard of the big bang theory ? To determine the center source, we guess where everything is flying from. When could banning abortion and lower taxes make you richer ? Ouch. . That can not be it . . .
Romney claims not-responsible for Mean-Bain-Capital-conduct after 1999. “ I was just the CEO on leave . It was just my rules they would have been following by then. Not me ! ! . . Anyway, I was in another city when that crime over humanity took place !! " . . .not me . . ?
really ??
Mudcat Saunders is my new hero.
You know I could care less where the Olympic uniforms were made - it is after all supposed to be a world event. However! I just loved watching Ms Maddow show her passion about it. She is such a treat!
Personally I'm not concerned what uniforms anyone wears to Olympic opening or closing ceremonies because I refuse to pay attention. I'm only concerned with what happens in between - the part that the athletes train for all the time.
Of course, it would be a good thing for each country to manufacture their own clothing.
also: "HULKSMASH!" :D
Dear Steve & Rachel,
Would love to see an on air expose of Florida. This state has gone from bad to worse on a continuing spiral. Loved how you exposed Michigan, hope we can be the next. This state is begging for it.
Rachel,
Don't know if I don't get it but all this back and forth about whether or not Romney was involved in the day-to-day operations and decision-making at Bain, seems a waste. I say that because I think it doesn't matter because he was the sole stockholder and received a paycheck which means he profited from the outsourcing whether he made the decisions or not. If he is so against outsourcing and was in 1999,2000,2001,2002..., then he should give back the profits he reaped on the backs of those who lost their livelihoods, period. No agrument, no rhetoric, no wasting time.
Romney profited from outsourcing.
