Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.) got himself into a little trouble a few weeks ago, boasting about how important he is. To prove it, the Republican said he's been "in secret meetings with kings and queens and prime ministers."
As it turns out, that wasn't true, and his staff later said he misspoke.
This week, however, Scott's sense of self-importance once again caused problems.
During a CNN interview that aired Tuesday, Senator Scott Brown said that President Obama and other powerful Democrats are regularly phoning him to get help passing their legislation. [...]
"I can name a litany of Democratic-sponsored bills that I've done that never would have passed hadn't it been for me," Brown told CNN. "And the president had called me, and vice president calls me, and Secretary [of State Hillary Rodham] Clinton calls asking for my vote all the time."
At a certain level, this hardly seems worth bragging about. Administration officials call members of Congress, hoping to get support on all kinds of measures. But the boast also raised questions about accuracy. Do President Obama, Vice President Biden, and Secretary Clinton really call Scott Brown "all the time," making sure Democratic-sponsored bills become law?
As it turns out, the senator's staff had to walk this back, too. Asked about these frequent phone calls, Brown aides acknowledged he hasn't spoken by phone with Clinton in over a year, and she's only called twice, not "all the time." He's also only spoken by phone Biden once -- the VP called in 2010 on the New START treaty -- and Brown hasn't fielded any calls from the president in over two years.
The interesting similarity between this and the "kings and queens" story is the underlying insecurity: Brown seems concerned that voters will see him as an unserious politician who lacks substance and depth. Those concerns are well grounded -- the senator still struggles badly with the basics of public policy -- but Brown isn't helping his case by exaggerating his duties. Indeed, he's making matters worse.

Marilyn Monroe also got calls from the president. More than once.
I guess all the good looking folks do.
"Brown seems concerned that voters will see him as an unserious politician who lacks substance and depth."
Ah, yes Scott, the magic is wearing off of the voters and they will awaken to realize the lying, sniveling cowardly, traitor that you have been to them! Oh happy day.. :>)
But as long as he is an Ideologically Sound/Theologically Correct lying, sniveling, cowardly traitor, a surprising number will support him. One of those people is right here in this thread.
He represents Massachusetts not Mississippi - there's a bit less emphasis on the "theologically correctness" up there....
MA has the chance to do the right thing and send this clown packing.
GO ELIZABETH WARREN!!!
He is confusing his poker game with work. I would probably call with kings and queens as well.
"The president, vice president, and Secretary of State call me all the time. And kings and queens! Yeah...that's the ticket!" - Scott Brown
You should show him more respect. I have it on good authority that Mr. Brown is well known on Mars and in fact Pluto has a red phone that goes directly to his office.
Brown is nothing but a skid mark on his party's undies. The rest of the GOP all claim to speak to god.
You forgot the important part--God talks back to them! (by appointment only of course)
Those are'nt skid mark's,they are nicotine stain's,he blow's smoke out his a$$.
I don't think anything will sway a Republican voter. It doesn't matter how much their candidates lie, exaggerate, deflect or lie (yes, I said lie twice... there's a lot of lying going on!) they are committed to getting rid of Obama and see anything that gets them closer to that goal as fair game.
That's why it really doesn't matter what Governor Romney says or does or did or did not do. Republicans will hold their nose and vote for him. And they will come out and vote for Scott Brown regardless of the same.
The only hope Democrats have is to mobilize the vote and push voter turnout. Which is why we see all of the voter suppression policies being put into place targeting likely Democratic voters.
When we find out that Scott Brown aquired a federally protected advantaged position with a university, oh say like Harvard or Penn, because he falsified his heritage (let's say he lied and said he was part Cherokee Indian...... then the voters should become concerned. You know, as Elizebeth Warren did in falsely claiming to be an American Indian to illegally obtain a position at Harvard and again at Penn. Ever heard of FEDERAL FRAUD????
In the meantime, .......... you can trump up all the foolish peddie anti stories you want. The real story is the one that exposes that FRAUD Warren.
Chanting from NH
Go SCOTT Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IrishPat,
Did you realize that where I am from out west, everyone claims they are part Native American? My grandmother swore she was half Native American till the day she died! My father and our family honestly thought were were part Native American. It wasn't until my niece did a complete geneology that we found out that it wasn't true. Apparently it was the "thing" back in the 30's to be "part Native American". That doesn't make it fraud!!!
Why do you fault Elizabeth Warren for something she probably didn't even know wasn't true?
As for being a "Native American" helping you get jobs - hmmm.....never helped anyone I knew!!! Do you think that perhaps the reason Elizabeth Warren got a professorship at Harvard was rather because she graduated from Rutgers School of Law and was chosen editor of their Law Review? Or because Harvard really likes people who have lived a "varied" life and done a lot of other things besides law, which Elizabeth Warren has? Or that she has taught at OTHER law schools and was an experienced professor also?
PULLEASE when you respond to me, DON'T include your catalog of articles. I really don't care what the Boston papers or anyone else has to say, but I would be interested in why you dislike this woman so much!
I was once married to a person like that, an Irish catholic, by the way, similar to Irish Pat. At some level they actually believe the façade that they manufacture, and that makes it difficult for them to deal with evidence that their story just isn't true. They fervently believe that they are among the meritorious elite of society, and to support their incontrovertible self-image, they make up these stories. They aren't really lies in their minds because they support the indisputable, in their minds, wonderfulness of their very beings. When you actually investigate, you find that their stories and reality are quite different.
For instance they'll talk constantly about being a doctor (PhD) but neglect to tell you that it was in some field of education, they don't remember which, and someone else did their research and analysis for them. They'll talk about how they were the best teacher in the school district and the administration and the kids just loved them, but neglect to explain why they only lasted two years.
This is the type of person that we have in Brown. He's someone who actually believes that he is one of the best even though the evidence is totally on the contrary, so to bolster his self-image, he has to invent and exaggerate his qualifications and achievements. I am convinced that at some level he believes these stories himself, just like he believes that the oil industry doesn't get subsidies.
Why Thank You. May I add that the Boston Herald, Boston Globe writers, WRKO talk hosts Todd Fineberg and Howie Carr seem to all be like me too. If you know anything about the New England area talk shows and newspapers you would know that much has been written and spoken about Ms Warren's fraud when presenting herself to Harvard and Penn. Please don't attribute the "manufacture" fo the story to me. Oh no, all of us here know of Ms Warren and her deciets and frauds.
You ex husband sounds like a Saint and to have once been a very lucky man. I wish you no insult or harm dkm. The truth is out there about people like Ms Warren. You have to courageous enough to obtain it. Lazy people will stay here soaking up all the misinformation and falsehoods. While TRMS tauts out sources like Media Matters and Mother Jones and Moveon.org and similar ragtag sources. You are what you READ.
Goodness no, one inspection of my typing inadaquacies will reveal anything but a "doctor" phd or phi beta capa. Just a regular guy.
Have a pleasant day............... Go Scott Brown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Care to provide any links to real evidence? People talk about a lot of things, mainly bull@!$%#. That especially applies to talk show hosts and newspaper columnists.
If Brown has evidence of "federal fraud," why hasn't he provided it to the authorities?
I feel badly for Irish people who actually can think and chew gum at the same time.
The most irredeemably demeaning "Irish joke" I ever heard was told by an Irish-American at an Alcoholics Anonymous "speakers meeting". Irish Pud would probably think it was funny.
He is an unserious politician, what has he actually done but hang onto the efforts (few if any) espoused by the red menace of, as Ed Gillespie said "old, fat white guys".
In it for the gaming and glory, anyone who even jokingly pimped off his daughters on stage is a clown car self loathing narcissist, exercising the bully gene. Reminds me of the Morris Day act in Purple Rain, someone needs to shadow Brown with a mirror attendant and a vapors couch on wheels for the fainting admirers.
I'm trying to help as many good Dems as I can, but slowly going broke. This election truly is the most important of our lives. If they win the Senate & keep the house the middleclass loses big time, actually everyone does if Medacare turns into a voucher program, Healthcare destroyed, likely, for many of our lifetimes. Think about Roe V Wade, children, womens issues & so much more. It could all be on the line. I will find a way to help Elizabeth Warren. Just imagine that nightmare! Fight for the House, Senate & the Court.
Brown certainly is more than obtuse, but I think Rachel should look in the mirror when she talks about anyone that is not "strictly speaking, accurate". Also, if she didn't repeat everything two or three times this could be a 30 min. show.
Yeah, she's made mistakes but it seems to me that she corrected them (unlike Faus 'News'"). To get through to some folks you have to repeat things several times. Could you share some actuall examples of your claim?
oncearepublican, My family believed the same thing until my brother dug into our geneology. It was very disappointing to find out there were no Native Americans in our family tree.
BTW, I was once a Republican when I was young because my father was one. Now I have to vote for those I think will do the least damage and that's rarely a Republican.
Who cares about this??? This is a national show and forum. Next!
