Garnish is following its sibling McQueen into the next phase of its life: around noon today Garnish suspended itself from the ceiling of its shoebox. I suspect that by the time I get home tonight there will be a gorgeous chrysalis where the caterpillar used to be. Expect the next lepidopteral update in a week or so.

The emergence of the butterfly takes quite a while, so when it begins, take a glass of wine and sit quietly and watch with amazement! It's such a lot of work to become a butterfly, and so worth it!
Shouldn't there be a leaf, stem or some kind of food for the metamorphosis? Milkweed or something?
At this point, the kids are done with solid food...
Black Swallowtail? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papilio_polyxenes) That's what we had. Found on some anise. Also have another swallow tail ("Pipevine") found on, surprise, surprise, a Butterfly Bush. But that one is black with red spikes!
Afraid for his life poor Garnish hangs in the corner stiffened by the recurring nightmare of seeing his brother eaten alive!
Sweet dreams Garnish as you decide on Eucalyptus or Ovamel for dinner. Mexico has drug lords but California has speeding windshields.
Any chance of instituting a Garnish webcam?
I second that notion!
Your kids grow up so fast. Awww!
This is hardly nerdie at all. No, it is seriously nerdie. You can raise tadpoles into frogs next...
lepidopteral updates are the best kind - especially in color...
