Today's edition of quick hits:
* On the global stage, arguably today's biggest story: "A U.S. official confirmed Friday that the Syrian regime has been moving elements of its chemical weapons stockpile in recent days, an action that has U.S. officials both concerned and perplexed."
* Syrian violence, meanwhile, continues to spiral.
* China's economy is growing at its slowest pace since early 2009, with GDP growth of "only" 7.6% year-over-year in the second quarter.
* The estimate keeps growing: "JPMorgan Chase, which reported its second-quarter results on Friday, disclosed that the losses on a soured credit bet could mount to more than $7 billion."
* President Obama is not above mocking Congress for its ineptitude: "33 votes to repeal the healthcare bill. All it would take is one vote to make sure that all of you don't see your taxes go up next year. You tell me what would be a better use of time."
* Andrew Sullivan uses the "p" word: "[T]he issue is Romney's possible perjury in 2002 and 2011. The Republicans once impeached a president who committed perjury. Are they now going to nominate someone who did it as well -- and insist it's no big deal?"
* He's waiting until late on a Friday afternoon, but Mitt Romney will talk to reporters from non-Republican news organizations today. It's such a rare occurrence, it's almost hard to believe.
* Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon (D) vetoed an anti-contraception bill this week, but the likelihood of Republican legislators overriding the veto appears high.
* And finally, former President George H.W. Bush asks a very good question: "[W]ho the hell is Grover Norquist, anyway?"
Anything to add? Consider this an open thread.

"* And finally, former President George H.W. Bush asks a very good question: "[W]ho the hell is Grover Norquist, anyway?""

Re: Chemical weapons in Syria
...the United States still believes the chemical weapons are "secure" and under the control of the Assad regime.
Oh #$^%&. I'm just not that reassured!!!
Wasn't there some suspicion that Iraq moved their chemical weapons to Syria to hide them from Bush?
Folks, remember what it took to convince Americans there was a necessity to invade Iraq. Right, it was the lies about WMD. This is no different.
Let's go back for a bit of review. After wrong-footing Saddam with stories of torture, rape-rooms, and genocide against Kurds, Bush and Cheney finally realized that wasn't enough. So they whipped out the trump card of all lies, the WMD story. They said Saddam could attack America with WMD.
Presto-chango, we were lied into supporting an attack against Iraq, where the war killed thousands of US soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis. Shame on us.
Fast-forward to today. After all of the breathless news coverage of supposed attrocities committed against civilians in Syria, Obama has come to the same conclusion Bush and Cheney did. To get American backing for his agenda to topple Syria, he must connvince us there is a credible threat of an attack involving WMD against US interests.
In regards to mid east policy, Obama is literally the third term of the Bush Administrsation. At a minimum, he's a puppet of the same shadow powers who told Bush and Cheney what to do. The Heritage Foundation and The Project for a New American Century come to mind. Obama is completing Dick Cheney's unfinished agenda to topple every Arab state in the region surrounding Israel.
And we are falling for the same old lies.
Consider this: If Obama is proud of his use of drones to precisely target suspected terrorists with a "minimum" amount of collateral damage, then why hasn't he offered Assad these drones to take out terrorists in Syria without the wide-spread collateral damage and civilian casualties that Obama claims to be so concerned about?
I think it's a fair question.
Of course, we already know the answer. Obama doesn't give a s.h.i.t about civilian deaths or collateral damage in Syria. These deaths are necessary to give him a pretext for the coming invasion. Hell, Obams has personally signed off on drone strikes that have killed 400-800 civilians and at least 175 children in other countries. Obama has personally signed off on drone strikes that have targeted and killed at least 2 US citizens. This is unprecedented, and aside from the number of citizens killed, it makes Obama a logical twin of Assad, as both have targeted and killed citizens who collaborated with enemies of the state. The man is a hypocrite and a liar.
Who’s Grover? Ask your kid, George...
George Bush and Grover Norquist, architect of Bush's economic policy had a 3-step plan when Bush was elected in 2000.
Very briefly, here was the plan.First, massively cut taxes, especially to the rich. Enourmous Bush tax cuts. Done.
Second, slash non-defense spending. Get rid of Social Security and Medicare. That’s the Republican plan if they get a President elected...
The last step took longer than they expected, but here we are. It just needed some Republicans to get in positions of power at the state level.
The third step was this. State by state, and at the federal level, Norquist told the Nation's Robert Dreyfus, they would dismantle and privatize unions and public pension funds and be "liberating" the trillions of dollars held in trust for retirees. Referring to those who believe in public services such as public pension funds, Norquist stated, "We want to take that power and destroy it."
So here we are. Christie, Kasich, Daniels, Scott, LaPage, Brownback, Haley, Brewer, Deal and Walker... Republicans finally gained Governorships in enough states and they’re on their way...
With these cogs already in place, the Koch’s are the grease. But we knew that already.

Amazing ain't it? Now Canada is out , where do I go? Aha the moon!
"The Republicans once impeached a president who committed perjury. Are they now going to nominate someone who did it as well -- and insist it's no big deal?"
rhetorical question, right?
Andrew Sullivan's quote should be blazing all over the news.
Please have Jill Stein on.
Romney is a liar either way and cannot be trusted, especially when he refuses to show his income tax returns. Romney has been doing nothing, but covering up his whole life and how deceptive he really is. You can’t tell me, Romney didn’t sit in those board meetings without hearing about all the other crap that was going on at Bain Capital even if it was just part time – NO WAY. Regardless, Romney still spoke to his fellow corrupt partners no matter when he said he left. You can almost guarantee he still is talking to the people at Bain Capital too and is still involved in Bain Capitals business activities. Trust that thing Romney, what do you think people are crazy. And regardless as the news has said, Romney has been doing this crap with screwing people over even before 1999 just to line his pockets. Romney fixing the economy – Yea sure at whose expense everybody else’s except the rich who caused all this crap. Romney is a lying weasel and likes to play bully, since he has been a kid. No matter what Romney tries, he cannot shred that lying weasel bully skin of his.
Right. Daddy Bush doesn't know who Grover is. Read My Lips, Daddy!

OK, let's see you all declare the state of Massachusetts a subsidiary of Fox news and untrustworthy. Personally I'm glad the Democrats are doing this. It's making Romney look Presidential, while the Obama campaign and MSM sound adolescent.
Guess Massachusetts didn't check the SEC filings. Also, aren't you the one who claims that government is incompetent? Interesting switch of attitude when it's convenient.
Shooter,
We really don't know what Romney was doing at the time, but if the Massachusetts Ballot Law Commission report is correct, then Romney FALSIFIED his SEC filings and that is a Federal crime which has as one of its possible outcomes, imprisonment in a Federal prison.
Don't you realize that? Wouldn't you prefer that he lied to the Massachusetts Ballot Law Commission which I think (but don't know for sure) has no authority to imprison anybody?
And besides, how can a state ballot commission "trump" the SEC?? They work in different areas! Do you also understand that because Bain was in INTERSTATE Commerce, that no state can preempt a Federal law when it applies to an interstate issue?
You know what I think? That Romney is lying to us (no law against that!!), because I really don't think he would openly lie to the SEC! What he told the Massachusetts Ballot Law Commission is immaterial.
Regarding Romney's use of his ad references to the "fact checkers" web sites and their findings in his favor (currently) that he left Bain in 1999, should not the Obama campaign be firing up ad's showing that since Romney is in support of these "fact checkers", then he also must be in support all of the "pants on fire" and other untrue findings against the right in so-o-o many other instances?
People will still vote for Romney, despite the fact that he has used every legal loophole that is available..and many we have no clue about. They feel that he will be able to do the same for America.
