Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* The Obama campaign released a new ad over the weekend, and it's probably the most talked-about spot the Democrats have done so far this year. The ad will air in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. (With nearly 900,000 YouTube views in 48 hours, it's the most successful Obama ad of the cycle to date.)
* Ron Paul's hopes of being officially nominated for the presidency at the Republican National Convention were dashed over the weekend, when his supporters came up far short at the Nebraska GOP convention held on Saturday.
* The latest McClatchy-Marist poll shows President Obama leading Mitt Romney by just two points, 48% to 46%.
* Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) acknowledged in an interview with The Hill that he's met with Romney campaign officials as part of the vice presidential vetting process.
* In Florida, the latest Mason-Dixon poll shows Obama with the narrowest of leads over Romney, 46% to 45%. (The same poll has Gov. Rick Scott's favorability rating at just 29%.)
* As Republican billionaire Sheldon Adelson sends another $5 million check to Eric Cantor's super PAC, Republican billionaire Bob Perry directs $1 million to John Boehner's super PAC.
* Speaking of super PACs, four Democratic groups issued a press release late Friday, announcing they raised a combined $25 million in the second quarter. This includes an $11.7 million haul for Priorities USA Action.
* And former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) hasn't ruled out a return to politics. He still has roughly $4.5 million in campaign funds in the bank, and Weiner is reportedly eyeing a 2013 race in New York City, possibly running for public advocate or mayor.

That ad is excellent! I'm stoked, if this really means that the gloves are coming off.. I will say this about the rest of the links; there is too much money in this game, the "jobs" are supposed to be attracting civil and civic minded legislators, not sociopaths and the criminally arrogant.
One of the best things about the spot is #Mittens sang his ditty at The Villages. For those who may not know The Villages occupy parts of three Central Florida counties and are Stepford for Geezers -- or perhaps they are the real world equivalent of the famous "The Village" from the phenomenal 1960's Patrick McGoohan TV series "The Prisoner."
As one who is somewhat Geezerish I find them terrifying. :)
Mitt's record is worse than his singing. And that's saying something.
Is it just me, or did he sing "America, America, Gosh spread his grace on thee..."???
The Obama ad may only re running in those states, but it was seen nationally at least six times yesterday on the morning talk shows. the LBJ "Daisies" ad (which I would compare this to) only ever ran twice as an ad, and then 100 times as national news - that's how it got seen. That's what is happening here.
Plus all the news reports of Romney's "offensive" on Friday show him smirking when he answers. He always smirks when he answers - it's a "tell" that he's lying.
Saw the Romney singing (and I use that therm VERY loosely) ad a few times in IA this weekend. It's effective when you think about it, but you do have to think about the contrasting irony of Mitt singing "America the Beautiful" while he tucks away his money in other countries and his companies send jobs overseas. The question though is whether it will help sway Independents/Undecideds, or just be amusing to those of us who have already decided our votes.
President Obama is right on too many cases. When you ask how much money and power is enough to these extreme rich people. The answer is it is never enough. The extreme rich just keep taking and taking until everything is in ruin and the people are so driven into misery, despair and death. The extreme wealthy has no conscience, when it comes to the concerns or welfare of others their whole goal is to keep taking and taking. Destroy the world that is no problem to these extremely wealthy people, their answer is how fast can we destroy the world. These people are so lost in craving power, corrupt, greedy, hypocrites, arrogant and deceivers that they will do anything just to continue their very dark agenda.
Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) acknowledged in an interview with The Hill that he's seen 23 year of Romney's tax records and has removed himself from the vice presidential vetting process.
Wanna bet Mitt needed a teleprompter?
Wouldn't it be great if both sides vowed to stop the fundraising (super PACs included) and used the money that would have been spent to create jobs in rebuilding our country (renewable energy, education and infrastructure. This will truly help our country in the future. The millions of $ spent on campaigning is such a crying shame. Put it to GOOD use!!
The item about Ron Paul is interesting and prompts me to ask: What happens if the Repubs find Romney too difficult a candidate to support? What do they do at their convention? Has this happened before?
You know I have a theory on this... I truthfully do not think the GOP likes this guy and are allowing him to run in an election to get it over with. Why else would they nominate such a weak canidate?
Basically, I think the GOP knows they can't win with this guy. They are allowing it for a couple of reasons... one, to get it over with and two because this just helps them line their pockets with more money from special interest groups.
And because having House control will effectively block anything getting done?
