Last week, in the midst of swirling questions about Mitt Romney's private-sector background, there was one line in particular the Republican campaign seized on. Stephanie Cutter, the deputy campaign manager for President Obama's re-election team, raised the specter of Romney having committed a "felony" with misstatements in his SEC filings.
Cutter wasn't alone -- even fact-checkers siding with Romney had raised the same point -- but Republicans pounced. For the Obama campaign to even mention "felonies" was proof, they said, of viciousness. It's precisely why Romney asked for an "apology."
That was a few days ago. When we compare Cutter's comment to the latest tirade from former Gov. John Sununu, arguably Romney's top campaign surrogate, let's just say it puts a new spin on who might owe whom an apology.
For those who can't watch clips online, Sununu, in an unhinged attack, told reporters, "I wish this president would learn how to be an American." The quote was in direct reference to the ridiculous, out-of-context talking point we discussed this morning.
Sununu, who has a well-deserved reputation as a GOP loudmouth, also said this morning the president "has no idea how the American system functions," in part because "he spent his early years in Hawaii smoking something." (Update: Sununu also went berserk on Fox.)
Remember, this is one of Romney's top surrogates, speaking on behalf of the candidate himself. The intensity of the over-the-top vitriol, following staff shake-ups, and hastily thrown together interviews, also reinforces the perception that the Romney campaign is feeling a sense of desperation and losing its composure.
For its part, the Obama campaign issued a statement, quoting spokesperson Lis Smith saying in response to Sununu, "The Romney campaign has officially gone off the deep end."
Update: Hoping to walk back some of his nonsense, Sununu later said, "What I thought I said but what I didn't say is the president has to learn the American formula for creating business."

Maybe I can help you with that. The POTUS has very little to do with gas prices. It's about speculation based on supply and demand which are subject to numerous variables. All the POTUS can really do is try and avoid embarrassing situations like when former POTUS George W. Bush was holding hands with Saudi Royalty. I hope this helps you understand things a little better.
Sununu may have also smoked "something" if he grew-up without a father. The end result is "how we judge a person." Sununu would never make it as president!
This is simply horrific. Mitt Romney and the Republican Party have gone completely over the edge and are now blatantly dealing in anti-American and truly offensive attacks on our president. The rhetoric used by the Obama campaign against Romney concern nothing more than the GOP nominee's highly public business record and his refusal to do what every single other modern presidential candidate has done -- release the entirety of their tax records. Romney is running on his business experience, so this is fair game. What this old hack Sununu, who has been out of politics for twenty years, is doing is a direct and personal assault on our nation's president and every single American who voted for him in 2008. But, seriously now -- The President released his "Birth Certificate" and the Repubs said it was not enough proof. Now, Romney says/claims that what he signed or swore to about 12 years ago is/was not the actual truth and Repubs say "That's enough proof for us."

This is all they got now. Can't run on Gov of Mass. Can't run on Bain. Can't run on Olympics - ebil gubmint BAILOUTS!, Burma - or was that Myanmar (oops). Can't run on lower taxes. Can't run on policy ('cause they got none).
So it's hate, hate, hate, hate.
Problem is, most people outside of the 27% genuinely like Obama (or see him as a decent family man). Many people may feel has hasnt done a good enough job or do not like his policies, etc., but they see him as a good man. Hate could have worked when he was a (relative) national unkown in 2007 / 2008, but not now, after four years. So four more months of hate only will turn off those undecideds.
So Romney is screwed. He has to bring the hate or the 27% will revolt. But he can't bring the hate because the middle will turn. And since he has absolutely nothing left (he's run from all of his "accomplishments"). He can't win for losing.
Sadly, the election will still be closer than it should be, and in elections you can never say never.
The actions of people in the 1% group are never questioned and they are
not required to explain themselves. They are used to dictating,
stealing, offending, and corrupting whoever and whatever they want. So
when one (mitt) is questioned about anything he has no way of responding
as he is being asked questions he has never had to explain and answer
before. He feels his taxes and everything else about him are his
business and he very much resents allowing anyone in the 99% group to
learn anything about them and him. The 99% are there to be used not to
be acknowledged in any other way. It's the little people who pay the
taxes and go to jail for breaking laws. The 1% create and write the laws
for the 99% and are themselves exempt. So, you see, the mitt only cares
about your vote, the reason for your vote is unimportant and will be
forgotten anyway. Suffice it to say, on any given day whatever the mitt
says is the truth and nothing but the truth on that day.
These speech writers know exactly what they are saying. These are not off hand remarks. Every word is weighted for effectiveness. Obama camp has to hit back hard and often. Call them out on their racism and code words and whistles to the right wing bigots. Just like that speech last week my Romney at the NAACP. He knew exactly what he was saying. The speech was written to elicit boos, so he could go to his bigoted buddies and crow. Coward! And todays co-ordinated speeches by all the coward's "suppositories" was entirely scripted. We are NOT going to let them distract from the information of the past two weeks about Romney's Bain. SHOW ME the TAXES and show me the birth certificate and show me the transcripts, Willard. Really,, what those two men, whom should really know better, have lost the right to call themselves gentlemen. As for whether President Obama is enough of an American, His grandfather, and uncle, was in Europe during WW2. I do not find either of the ancestors of Rommey and Sununun, much as contributors to the life of America. Well, you see, It's OKay If You're A Republican. In other words, Ideological Soundness/Theological Correctness can wash away all manner of sins.
I would expect more from someone of Sununu's stature. From the way he talks, he seems petty and small. Actually, I initially wrote that he was a childish d*ck. Frankly, I think it fits him.
Though Sunnunu was a powerful and recognized Republican he never was a reasonable mainstream Republican his address of American business that:
"These are the people who are the backbone of our economy" is poure rhetoric and show Republican ignorance of business in a one size fiuts all mentality where the endangered mom and pop business in lumped in together with what is also defined by law as qualifying as small business by the US SBA and the equity markets in what is defined as small cap corporations.
As a small cap company typically has under $1 billion under control and are hence considered small companies.
As Sununu ignorantly spoke on behalf of the IGNORANT Republican Party on behalf of of what allegedly is capitalism that in no shape or form make any reference as large Cap (Large capitalization) corporations which has been the cause of most of America's real problems.
Sununu states "the president clearly demonstrated that he has absolutely no idea how the American economy functions,' Sununu said. 'The men and women all over America who have worked hard to build these businesses -- their businesses, from the ground up -- is how our economy became the envy of the world." in which he on one hand addresses small business for votes and money much as Obama does working people but as both do with out any clear true reference as to the facts.
Republicans have no real idea what a small business is, nor how it functions unless it is a fast food franchise in which case I call it serfdom slavery at the beacon call of the corporation.
Strangely Republicans LOVE to mug me though I make no bones about it that:
1. I have real reasons to be unsupportive of the president
2. I have been politically a radical independent my whole life but they insist I am liberal.
3. I am not fully supporting any candidiate as I think the American electoral system is a complete farce, as the facade of a police state lead by an executioner in chief.
4. I very well may (mostly likely in Pennsylvania) vote once again for Barrack Obama to become the president of the US.
5. For the simple reason fairly I think Republicans are perhaps just as stupid as Democrats, just as stupid except they are even better at being obnoxious than their opponents. In other words I dislike Democrats but I hate Republicans. Why? because they have remade themselves that way inorder to win elections in what started wit the Nixon Southern Strategy where they accepted all the segregationists into the Republican Partyu as they could.
Similarly Romney as a Mormon is hated by Protestants Catholics & Jews in the Republican Camp but not as much as they don't like Obama for his African heritage (as much as mine or any one''s) which is no issue to be judging a candidate for the presidency of the United States.
President Barack Obama is an American, who knows much more of how America really works than the average American and especially the average Republican, so generally I don't give a damn what religion or race President Obama is, as what Republicans say are mere excuses for bigotry & racism for which there should be a heavy price to pay: As perhaps they can (should) be sent to Somalia )or some other third World country) so as to understand what kind of extremist bull their opinions really are, what a totally market economy is without government, and so they can learn how the capitalist system and society really works but most likely won't.
