GET REAL!
Until the 'MEMBERS' of the NRA actually boycott their own membership in this organization, in PROTEST, these kinds of senseless crimes WILL NOT STOP!
Gun manufacturers, who run the NRA, are only interested in SELLING MORE AND MORE GUNS.
They have absolutely no interest whatsoever in ANYONE'S 2Nd AMENDMENT RIGHTS… and 'YOU' THE' MEMBERS' OF THE NRA…
KNOW IT!
It is up to YOU AND ONLY YOU, because it is YOUR MONEY these gun manufacturers are using TO KILL YOUR OWN CHILDREN!
YOU KNOW IT …
MOREOVER, WE KNOW IT!
The gun lobby has spent millions convincing gun owners that the government is the enemy and democrats want to get rid of all guns including shotguns.
Trying to reason with people after they have been whipped into a panic by organizations interested in furthing an agenda is pointless.
Many a movie and news paper have described how hard it is to take someone out of a cult and deprogram them--do you think mere logic will work?

About 25 years ago I heard an interview on NPR between the program host and an author who had written a book about Wayne LaPierre, long time head of the NRA. The author said that LaPierre as a child had shot another child. It made perfect sense to me because LaPierre seems to want to turn this country into a place where children shoot children on a regular basis and it's considered a normal, every day occurrence, where kids bring guns to school, hunters and killers bring guns to national parks, people openly carry in churches and in bars and the law allows you to kill anyone you want if you can justify it by saying you were standing your ground. I have never been able to confirm that LaPierre did indeed injure or kill another child with a firearm. It's not mentioned on Wikiedia nor have I been able to find any reference to it on teh google. But it does explain the insanity of LaPierre and the NRA.
TRMS, please don't carry "Breaking News" live. The news conference in Aurora consumed a lot of airtime, conveyed little information. If we allow a terrorist act to distract us from discussing what's important, or to control our attention, it tends to encourage more such acts.

We need to pit the Theater industry against the NRA. If theater attendance significantly declines, there will be pushback.
I for one would not feel comfortable sitting in any theater for quite a long time.
We license car drivers because cars can be dangerous.
We also keep track of cars and their safety requirements.
We license the person who uses a scalpel on us.
We license teachers for competency.
We license pilots who fly our planes.
However, anyone can purchase guns, ammunition, and
dream up horrendous shooting scenarios.
The NRA states "When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."
The truth is, "When guns are licensed, our streets will be safer."
Or, "When guns are licensed, crazies can't have guns."

DearRachel
I am fed up with the coverage of the shooting in Aurora. Nobody suggests that the easy availability of guns is to blame. The mass murder of people in the U.S. is so common that the reaction to it is routine. The flags are flown at half-mast. Everyone is shocked" and wants to know "why it happened". Then people put flowers on the sidewalk outside the site. The grief counselors move in and the country forgets about it.
As way to change the gun debate why don't you either once a week or once a month on your show list all the multiple murders that have occurred in the U.S. in public places in that week. Maybe people would begin to realize that mass murder is as American as Apple Pie.
For those would believe that if there had been someone carrying a weapon that could have shot the shooter, the're nuts. If you think that someone who is wearing armor and just trown down a gas grenade or two and is now shooting an automatic weapon or shotgun, you're going to stand-up a take a small firearm and shot him, he's just going to laugh and kill you outright. If you can remember how long it took the Police to finally bring down 2 heavily armed with armor men. This is just an excuse for gun nuts to carry heavy weapons. Congratulation to the Aurora Police for doing their duty and not just getting ready to wait out the situation like so many other jurisdictions.
