The White House warns: middle class families could pay an extra $1,600 in taxes next year.
Romney heads overseas this week.
What exactly are Chicago-style politics, Mr. Romney?
Federal appeals court upholds Georgia's ban on guns in churches.
Remember that submarine that caught fire? Here's what allegedly happened.
The mystery of the man in the goat suit is solved.

Still nothing about the Anaheim incident?
Also, you've done some great coverage for Ron Paul, but the last segment I saw wasn't quite accurate. Ron Paul already has a majority of delegates in 5 states without Nebraska. Maybe you could report on that?

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for the Slate piece on Chicago style politics. While our Governors seem to like orange jumpsuits and making license plates, I love my great city and am sick of people bashing it. I bet if we took a poll, we'd see a majority who believe their elected officials get corrupted by the system once they are sent to Washington. Why are we not using DC style politics as the insult that it is?
A more accurate description of the type of politics that Romney is using is Bush (Rove) style politics. We should hear more about that!
And, just to state the obvious--the GOP standing back on its haunches and deriding our President for once being a "community organizer" speaks loudly to the fact that caring for people and believing in just causes is somehow a personality flaw and something to be pitied. I see community organizers and how passionate and empathetic they are. I'd rather have a President who has a hint of a soul than someone with true "governing" experience that requires leaving one's soul at the doorstep on they way to work each morning. Eventually, said politicians--and yes, anyone running for office is, by default, a politician, quit denying it--forget where they left their souls and think their soulless persona is normal.
Re: guns in churches. That a clergyman joined the gun-rights group to allow guns in churches is almost too ironic to be true, but it got me thinking. If you polled the attitudes of gun right extremists, would you find that they favor forced birth legislation at the state and national levels? Similarly, do forced birth zealots favor NRA positions? I have a suspicion that there is considerable overlap between gun-rights and forced birth extremists. IF I'm correct, then that irony (or hypocrisy) is as profound as the irony (or hypocrisy) of forced birth extremist saying they favor small government.
That whole party and everything it stands for is nothing but hypocrisy.
Sorry, Tricia. I'm in a mood this morning.
Have a good one.

Re: gun rights in general. I'm not a gun owner, hunter, or target shooter. I suspect, however, that there are a majority of responsible gun owning hunters and target shooters who appreciate both the Second Amendment and the dangers of irresponsible gun ownership and use. Those folks don't worry me.
We need data on gun use to have an intelligent discussion of gun control policy. I would like to know the following about all criminal shootings in the U.S. (Whether shooting is fatal or not is often a question of chance):
1. What percentage of such shootings were committed with lawfully purchased guns?
2. Of those, what percentage were committed by the lawful owner?
3. What percentage of guns used in criminal shootings were stolen from lawful owners and used by unlawful possessors?
4. What % of guns used in criminal shootings were lawfully purchased at gun shows?
5. What % of guns were lawfully purchased in bulk, in states where such purchase is lawful?
6. What portion of those became untraceable from the lawful purchase to the criminal use?
We need to know whether guns lawfully purchased and kept by their owners, or lawfully sold to a new owner of record, are used in many, some, or very few criminal shootings. If lawfully purchased and owned guns are not a significant problem (and my guess is that they're not), policy discussions can focus on how to prevent guns from slipping off the radar and into the hands of criminals and whackos. This would protect the Second Amendment rights of citizens, while enabling rational discussion of how to protect public safety. Control of weapons of war, uzis and the like, should still be based on objective data. I suspect that answers to the above questions would provide data that would not support their availability to the public. (Even the Heller majority couldn't argue that the framers envisioned citizens armed with weapons that could discharge several rounds per second, equipped with high capacity magazines.)
Re: Sally Ride.
It would have been nice to mention that she, in the death notice that Sally Ride Science, the organization she founded, sent out a death note that mentioned:
The statement -- and an interview with her sister -- is covered by Chris Geidner at http://www.buzzfeed.com/chrisgeidner/first-female-us-astronaut-sally-ride-comes-out and really should have been mentioned by the AP, but certainly by Rachel.
The statement is in the AP piece, although they don't make a big deal out of it.
Tricia, maybe I'm blind and missed it, but I don't see any mention of Sally Ride's partner in the AP piece. All I see is a mention of her ex-husband. I even did a ctrl-f for "Tam" or "partner" in case I'm just skimming over it...and nada.
There's a thin-line between not making a big deal of it and flat-out erasure. We're not post-gay yet, and we will not be post-gay until gay people have equal rights.
If it's important enough to mention she was the first American woman in space, it's important enough to mention she was the first gay American in space.
Debunktion Junction: "one more gun" myth
"In the wake of gun-related tragedies, such as the recent shooting spree in Colorado, the pro-gun part of the population always comes to the same conclusion: had there been 'just one more gun' - in the hands of one of the victims - they would've been able to defend themselves, and stop the shooter.
It's easy to deal in the theoretical, and simply say that more guns would've fixed the problem... because apparently 'guns are just awesome like that.' But let's look at the facts of three well-known mass-shootings: the recent "Batman" shooting, 2011's Gabby Giffords shooting, and the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007..."

Mitt Rmoney is the Goatman!
"Goat Boy", Saturday Night Live, finally grows up and is looking for love in Utah.
Rachael, I am a liberal too and help others when I can. Please help. Without this going public, we are doomed. My wife and I lost a case in appeals court when lawyers filed a false claim against us which will cause us to lose everything we have worked for all our lives. They lied under oath, admitted they lied, and the judge who awarded the original claim said he did not award what they claimed. The appeals court ignored our substantiating evidence: thus saving these prestigious lawyers severe sanctions. We were the sacrificial lambs. Lawyers, the governor, attorney general, news media, and all our state and federal representatives have refused to intervene. Anyone out there can help or have any ideas? Not good to be the little guy! Would make a long and interesting story to benefit everyone, and I feel is more important than the election now going on. Without equal justice in court, democracy will be a thing of the past! I have always been a fighter, but we need a big fighter--You!
