David Frum noticed yesterday that most Democratic officials, even after the massacre in Aurora, have shown no interest in proposing new gun-control measures, which makes the conspiracy theory underpinning the "Fast & Furious" controversy look pretty silly.
The right-wing theory of the case in the Fast & Furious scandal is that the Obama administration hoped to generate demand for gun control in the United States by allowing the export of deadly guns to Mexico.
Yet demand for gun control does not respond even to mass murders inside the United States.
If you were a secret gun-snatcher, would you ever imagine that gun crime inside Mexico would produce a better result?
There Frum goes again, trying to bring logic into the discourse in an election year.
I would note, however, that there is a prominent right-wing conspiracy theorist, popular with Drudge, who argued on Friday that the administration and gun-control advocates may have been involved in the murders in Aurora, as a sort of domestic version of "Fast & Furious."
That should offend decent people everywhere, but it just goes to show how far some will go with their conspiracy theories.

That's just plain disgusting.
It's their way. It is what the Republican Bagger -- and worse -- base thrive on. Their hate for the President is so full as to be all but uncontrollable
Alrighty Ladies n' Gents... thinking caps ON! Good job! Let's do away with silly theories and use our CRITICAL THINKING skills!
NOW:
• Why did Holmes go to the expense and trouble of rigging his apartment with an array of deadly explosives and then immediately tell police about the bombs when he was arrested? If Holmes wanted to kill as many people as possible, why warn the cops ahead of time?
• How was alleged shooter James Holmes, an unemployed graduate student, able to afford an arsenal of weaponry, including a tactical helmet, bullet proof vest, an AR-15 assault rifle, a Remington shotgun, two 40-caliber Glock handguns, as well as an assortment of bomb-making materials?
• Given the fact that Holmes was a graduate student in neuroscience, where did he obtain the skills to create a maze of bombs so complex that it took the FBI two days to disarm them? According to experts, the intricacy of the bombs was reminiscent of war zones – how could Holmes have set all this up without help from an explosives expert?
• Despite police claiming “every single indicator” tells them the shooting was a lone wolf attack, numerous witnesses have described accomplices. Initial police reports that suggested the involvement of two or more shooters were quickly buried and the lone wolf narrative aggressively pushed.
Hey, the U.N. has a gun control treaty comin' up? NOOO WAAAAAY!?
I listen to Alex Jones as well as many others. I research to get facts straight. I was re-reading this post and just a couple of months later this blog seems wacky to me. Especially the line, "Yet demand for gun control does not respond even to mass murders inside the United States." What is your comment now? The mainstream media is on a frenzy to ban guns which will cause more crime in America. Statistics show that when researched in depth.... How about a ban on psychotropic drugs instead of trying to re-write the 2nd amendment of the Constitution? Why is it that every mass gun crime involves someone high on prescription meds? As time gears forward, we forget how powerful and smart our forefathers were. I remember the infowars.com rant post aurora and that whole staff were incredibly sympathetic at heart at what happened. All of the tragedy going on with the families. Everyone were saddened. All the conspiracy theorists and the listeners. The main point stressed by the non -conspiracist which brought criticism was that it was all staged. Well, as a fact checker and wanting truth for the children of this country, they said that through government documents from FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) that plans were in the regime. All outlined in government ops programs.
To turn this horrific tragedy into a Political Conspiracy is beyond contemptible. I would chastise the writer but people like him lack integrity, character or moral compass, and he probably considers himself a Good Christian.
It is my sincere wish that the ever popular god person these wingnuts talk about will smite that obnoxious piece of ShMitt with a generous bolt of lightning or some horrible pox.
The FCC loves to crack down on smut.
If that isn't obscene I don't know what is.
At least the Internet allows the FBI to identify mass murderers by following paranoid schizophrenic blog fantasies involving guns.
Holmes didn't blog about his plan, which makes me doubt he is insane.
Hell no. Apparently, he wrote it out in long-hand and mailed it to his shrink.
The can be no limit to conspiracy theories due to the Paradox of Absence. The lack of data supporting a conspiracy is only MORE evidence of the conspiracy itself. I read that a couple of days ago and thought, we are all down the rabbit hole now.
..right-wing conspiracy theorist.. who spewed crazy stuff ..
Freaking insane. And there will probably be a whole bunch of Uncle Jims who believe him. There ought to be a law against that much crazy in one place.
On the other hand - I'd be all for putting all that crazy in one place...and then locking it securely from the outside.
The gun issue cannot be ignored much longer. It is a very devisive issue! After the latest shooting, I wrote on FB "Watch out NRA- you have blood on your bottom line!" The next day I received a typical RW Conspiacy picture of a Glock gun barrel pointed at me from MY COUSIN!!! Admitted we dont know each other well but what a shock!! It is a very emotional issue & those "programmed" by the NRA only seem to have knee-jerk reactions & don't know how to have a reasonable discussion!!
Thanks for all that you do!! Paul & I are BIG fans!! You work hard to get the facts!!
Right now, Secretary Clinton and NATO are plotting to git r guns by putting concentrated L-Lysine in the popcorn butter in all the theaters of Paraguay!
Tis is more nonsense. There is no need for a person to have an assault wreopon. I trained for 3 months to use one. Then, only using discretion. Ban assault weapons. It has nothing to do with rights
Hell ban all the guns... that'll stop the violence.
Assault weapons are the Pony cars or Jeeps of the gun world. Outlawing "assault weapons" is just as silly as outlawing 4-wheel-drive, racing stripes, spoilers and low profile tires because somebody might be tempted to go fast or do brodies on the local golf course. They are popular because they are:
There is no functional difference between an "assault rifle" and a sporting rifle. .303 Enfields. Springfields, M1 Garands are just precursors of AK-47s and AR-15s and were popular as hunting and sporting rifles for the same reasons. That's why .303 Enfield, .30-06, .308 Winchester(aka 9.62 NATO) and .223 are popular calibers for sporting rifles that don't share pedigree with the military weapons. Those tend to be more expensive because they are made to do one thing really well or look pretty.
I'd have thought you might have picked up on this in those 3 months.
It would be sheer folly to think we could ban and get rid of all guns, so we need a different approach to gun violence in our country--a mandatory death penalty, within 30 days of arrest, for anyone who is incontrovertibly, absolutely, clearly and obviously guilty, such as the Fort Hood murderer-Nidal Hassan, AZ murderer Jared Loughner, and now this James Holmes, Aurora CO murderer. No more bs mitigating factors nonsense, no more plea bargains, no more unnecessary trials...just a sentencing hearing by a magistrate, and then a swift execution.Trials are only necessary if actual guilt is in question. This would only apply to murderers whose guilt is absolute and without question, regardless of their "sanity." It's time we stop spending hundreds of billions of tax dollars trying guilty people, thereby giving them a platform to gain publicity, and incarcerating people for life who deserve to a death sentence. It's time we raise the price and value of life to where it belongs instead of a status quo that warehouses the most dispicable and monstrous among us. All that does is cheapen the value of the lives of victims and the rest of us. So, go ahead let people own as many guns as they want, but if they kill someone and it's NOT in self-defense, they die. Period. After all, no gun law, short of an outright ban, would've kept Holmes from arming himself...he was, for all intents and purposes, a law-abiding citizen legally able to buy guns and ammo.
I thought about it for a long while and had to come back to tell you:
You're a lunatic.
Okay, Miracle, I'll make this simple for you...your boneheaded and false contention that "'There is no functional difference between an "assault rifle" and a sporting rifle...'" is beyond the pale of reason and borders on lunacy. Get out of your foxhole and gen up on some facts. Here are 2 basic ones that shoot down, pardon the pun, your contention: AK-47 fires approx. 600rpm (rds. per min.); M-16A1 fires 750-900rpm, versus 30rpm for the bolt-action Enfield .303 and 10rpm for the bolt-action 1903 Springfield, and 30rpm for the semi-auto M1 Garand. Those are facts, however inconvenient you find them. The problem with gun nuts like you, is you are not intellectually honest enough to admit the real truth.
I'm not in favor of outlawing guns & ammo, necessarily, rather an alternative punishment policy that rids the most vicious and callous among us. Thus, we just need to swiftly execute the absolutely guilty, thereby raising the price of innocent life, and then move on and begin recuperating and rebuilding. Short of a bi-partisan policy like that one, I'm open to hearing ideas on how to restrict access to military-grade weapons/ammo to only military/law-enforcement personnel, not militant, pry-it-from-my-dead-hands gun/2nd amendment lovers.
