Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* President Obama's campaign released a new TV ad this morning, which will air during the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. Note, it includes excerpts from the same Norfolk speech Republicans are pretending to be outraged about.
* Sheldon Adelson is reportedly planning a multi-million-dollar campaign to undermine Obama's support among Jewish voters, prompting a group of wealthy and influential Democrats, including Harvey Weinstein and Rahm Emanuel, to launch a counter-offensive.
* Priorities USA Action's Olympic-themed ad targeting Mitt Romney has been taken down, following complaints from the International Olympics Committee.
* After running a series of attack ads, the Romney campaign is launching a $1 million radio ad campaign, criticizing Obama for running attack ads.
* In Nevada's very competitive U.S. Senate race, the League of Conservation Voters is running new ads targeting appointed Sen. Dean Heller (R).
* Nate Cohn makes an interesting observation: Pennsylvania is supposed to be a key battleground state, but the Romney campaign isn't making much of an effort to advertise in there.
* Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, widely assumed to be a likely candidate in the 2016 race of the Democratic presidential nomination, has created a new federal political action committee.
* And in Connecticut, Chris Donovan's (D) congressional campaign has a new problem on its hands: Donovan's former campaign manager and seven others have been charged in an ongoing FBI probe.

They only pulled it after they were assured that Romney's campaign couldn't use Olympic imagery in their ads, either. And, like maphi reports, they had to and did, also. What I'm wondering is whether the ad could be remade, keeping the gold scoreboard (which was the "meat" of the ad), while removing the photos of the various teams, which is what the objections were about.
I suspect that Romney is holding fire in the Keystone State until the Fall, when we have come back from the shore/Poconos.
However, even his mega super-pac dollars may not be enough- he has already been defined by the Obama campaign as a sleazy, lying tax cheat. It is far easier to run on, "I am an honest man!" than, "I am not a crook!"

Too, Mittens may not be advertising here in PA, but the RNC is...again...and again...and again...and again. On MSNBC, their ads run several times an evening. It's always the same one, touching on how the President was elected with such high hopes (bonus happy picture of him being sworn in) but his policies have just made the economy worse. It's actually trying to be a bit of good cop - sort of like, we gave this guy a chance, it just didn't work out, it's time for a change. Nothing negative about him personally or even politically for the most part. And of course any sentient being knows that the GOP never gave him a chance to do anything, anything he's achieved has been despite their best efforts.
It is something to see Romney enjoying himself so much at the Olympics and impressing all the English people. He’ll probably impress all those other countries very much as well. Romney sure has a talent at being an emotionless and unthinking droid, but that is typical Romney.
On the Nate Cohn story over at TNR, it frustrates me that he never considers the obvious possibility that the GOP isn't bothering with PA because they know the Voter ID law has it locked up for them. My guess is that if the law were struck down, we'd see a sudden revival of Super PAC and Romney campaign spending there...
