When are we going to stop letting H8T mongers claim a monopoly on Christianity?!?
Didn't you get the memo? It said you had to be one to be a true Christian. Don't you know they are always right? They have reinvented Christianity to further their own agenda and are now trying to take over the Government and soon will attempt to control everything.
During the Biblical days women had no rights, and men could marry as many women as they wanted, and have as many concubines as they could afford. Goats were held in higher esteem then women as they felt they had more value.
Yup, lets go back to traditional "Biblical" ways of marriage. One man, many women, and no rights.
"When are we going to stop letting H8T mongers claim a monopoly on Christianity?!?"
Probably never. Too many American Christians seem unwilling to do anything to rein in the excesses of the Christian right. How ironic!
If my gaydar is accurate, and it usually is, at least a third of the people in that photo are closeted. Come on out folks.
They all look so happy, being included in the group and all. How many do you suppose are having s.e.x. outside of marriage...hummmmm?
Hey, I don't want 'em, you can have 'em, they're to wacked for me!
Hope they weren't gay chickens:)
Hmmm. Are you aware that "chicken" is common gay male slang for a legal but young male? Or was that the joke?
"Heterophobic?" Right. Because what you're going to find all over America on any given night of the week is roving (usually drunk) bands of heterophobes, verbally and physically abusing anyone who looks "straight" to them.
"We're here, we're queer, get out of our neighborhood, straight boy!"
Yup, that happens all the time.
Heterophobic? Seriously? You know, not once in my life have I encountered anyone who had a problem with straight people. Maybe I'm just not running in the right social circles.
Yeah, you prolly ought to stick to left social circles...
So, the only Christians in the world are right wing bigot protestants. That's news.
When Truett Cathy passes on...
St. Peter, with Truett standing at the gates: "Hmm, it says here you were very successful with your business of selling chicken sandwiches on Earth."
Truett: "Why yes I was. Became very wealthy! And I donated a lot of money to worthy causes!"
St. Peter: "Good for you. Now, I see here that one of those causes was to prevent gays from being allowed to marry."
Truett: "That's right! I knew in my heart it was wrong, and the Bible told me so!"
St. Peter: "The Bible doesn't actually say that. I think you just chose to interpet it that way. Besides, the Bible was written by humans."
Truett: "No, the Bible is the word of God. That's what my minister told me. Gave him lots of money too."
St. Peter: "Doesn't the Bible also say that Jesus said to 'Love all people'?"
Truett: "Well, er, yes. I DID love all people - just didn't like their sins!"
St. Peter: "Did you love them as you loved yourself?"
Truett: "Sure, whatever. Look, am I getting in here or not?"
St. Peter: "Security!"
Fade to black, as we hear the sound of a screaming Truett Cathy, falling ... well, you know where.
Question--which church hired that bus? Are these fools happy because they made a statement of intolerence or because someone sprang for their lunch?
I'd wager a $100 that not only was the Chick-fil-a free to these kids. But also the bus is from some private Christian school, they all happen to attend in the first place.
He's paying someone to kill a chicken, then he eats its dead carcass, and I'm anti-chicken?
It always boggles my mind that Christians forget that 1 Jesus was a Jew and 2 the Old Testament was written by Jews. It wasn't until 500 years later that a group of men decided to resurrect the story of Jesus and create a religious cult called Christianity for the sole purpose of power and control over the people. The Cult gained its popularity by force and the promise of eternal life. Those who refused to join the cult were executed. The Cult also forced the people to give gifts to them and they amassed extreme wealth.
Today the cult is trying to take over the Government of this country. We just have to look at other countries in the world that are run by religious fanatics and we can see the writting on the wall. The Taliban come to mind. It is eerily similar their postions of women's rights and gays.
I'm so glad that I can proudly say I do not belong to this group.
And so many - maybe ALL - of the Christians in this country would reject Jesus if he came to the United States and looked and spoke exactly as he did during his life. First, he did not speak English, as people seem to think. Second, he was dark-skinned (as in Middle Eastern, since that's where he lived).
Were he to come here today, he would at best be rejected simply because he looked and/or spoke diffently from all them good ol' Amerr'can Chris-chunns. At worst, and probably more likely, he'd be shot to death under suspicion of being a terrorist.
The same idiots who think a ghost @!$%#ed a virgin who birthed the bastard son of a god think that this bastard son of a god is going to save their gay bashing asses when they croak. They need to shove that dead fried Chick-Fil-A chickens down their gay bashing throats along with their kill gays bastard son of a god bible and choke it all down with their @!$%#ing Jesus Freak koolaid - I will dance on all of their @!$%#ing Jesus Freak graves.
Somebody didn't take their meds today.
If someone where to come running down a hiking path saying a bush spontaneously burst into fire and a loud booming voice spoke to him and said they were God, they'd either be handcuffed and taken to detox or asked where they could get their hands on that drug. When you put into context the vast difference in time and the advances we have made as a civilization, doesn't anyone ever question that it may be time to let this myth go. Look at where religious fanatism takes a culture. Do Christians ever take the time to read about the history of their religion and the impact it had on evolving cultures. How many atrocities were done in the name of God, how much genocide and purging of societies happened under the name of God. How Christianity has actually held back, and is continuing to hold back, the natural evolution of our civilization. Islam is another fanatical religion that is now resorting to terrorism to try and win the souls of this planet. Funny thing, does anyone know what the Jews, Christians and Muslims have in common? I'll give you a hint. They all have Abraham as the core. All three of these religions have their roots from the same blood line.
Maybe before we fear our brothers and sisters, we should put aside our religious differences and focus on the fact that there will alwyas be religious fanatics no matter which God you believe in. If we continue to spread hate to anyone that doesn't hold our belief and they must be destroyed will not end but only escalate the issues.
When a Christians excludes certain genders, or races, or sexual persuasions then they are denying the teachings of their religion. The bible wasn't written by God it was written by man interpreting God in his own image. The Koran wasn't written by God it was written by man interpreting God in his own image. When those images collide we have fear and distrust and will lead to war.
So I ask WWJD. He would lay down the swords, turn water into wine, hold a feast with bread falling from heaven, as much fish as you can eat and say just love each other.
When we as a world can rise above the need for a religion to tell us how to behave and we can act towards each other in a civilized manner, we can eliminate the hate and the bigotry.
Its really simple folks. Doesn't require much explanation and effort. The resistance to it is great. The solution lies not in the Government, not in some Mythical God of ancient times, but in each one of us. It is a choice and its not that hard if you try.
LOVE EACH OTHER. Unconditionally, no rules or regulations.
@DemandEquality, the right must adore you in your service to them.
@DemandEquality, your avatar sucks. Don't choke on yourself. I don't say this because I care, but because it is the human thing to do.
Thanks to yesterday, when it comes time to trap all of the Stoopid on a bus, we know what to use for bait.
The dilemma is that they won't all fit on the short bus.
I think that every time I see someone crowing about the Chik-Fil-A support day on Facebook or in comment threads, I'm going to put a dollar into a jar and at the end of one week, I will donate that to a group that is fighting for marriage equality. Should put together a hefty sum I think!
People need to shut up about a Bible they think they can pick and choose from. Either you believe in the whole Bible or you are just using all those little bits and peices you alone wish use so to carry out your own personal agenda? Which those "so called Christians" are now doing. If your intent is to do wrong...there you are not much of a real Christian. Here that Fox News?
no big deal, i've never tasted the chicken anyway.
I used to eat there when it was just chicken, but not since the waffle fry became the body of Christ.
Plus, my knees are so bad I can't genuflect at the door of the restaurant.
@NeedMoreCoffee LOL! You are on a role today! ;) (but not the chicken sandwich roll kind)
A dear and wise friend of mine (Sara Balz, for attribution's sake) wrote this on Facebook yesterday:
"So. We're upset because someone said something that we don't agree with. Our response is to shun them to show our displeasure. Those who DO agree with what they said flock to their side. In the middle of these to warring factions stands a host of uncountable other issues far more meaningful to each and every person on both sides.
All you chik-fil-a boycotters, how about instead, buy some games with your chik-fil-a money and take them to the children's hospital for the kids with cancer or hiv.
All you chik-fil-a supporters, head to the local retirement home and spend an hour with someone lonely, or get on the suicide hotline rotation and talke someone off a ledge.
Because Chik-Fil-A couldn't care less about whether you support or don't. They'll be selling their chicken to the apathetic, regardless. All the posturing does nothing but raise ire and create negative space.
Do something positive."
I was all up in this fray until I read this and realized that it's not worth my energy. Chik-fil-a made a dumb move, but I haven't eaten there in years and so I'll just keep on keepin' on and spend my time and energy making someone happy, instead of dwelling in all the negativity.
If you click through the text of the post is even better (disclaimer, this is cut and paste, no alteration, and I am not advocating any of this):
CHICK-FIL-A APPRECIATION DAY IS WELL UNDERWAY
AND GOD-FEARING AMERICANS ARE SENDING A MESSAGE
TO MILITANT HOMOSEXUAL ACTIVISTS - AND THEIR DEMOCRATIC HANDLERS.
“WE LOVE CHICKS.”
I SUSPECT THAT THE PUBLIC FLOGGING OF CHICK-FIL-A
HAS AWAKENED A SLEEPING GIANT
EVANGELICAL, PRO-FAMILY, PATRIOTIC AMERICANS - WHO ARE RISING UP TO SAY ENOUGH.
Re: Funny? I don't see gay people screaming they are Christians while being self-rightious bigots?
Anti-Heterophobic? This has got to be the new word of the day. LOL! Does that mean all gay people hate their parents?
Once again, religious people are making the world a badder place...or in this case, a batter place.
Didn't the same thing happen before? It's becoming a bit nauseating to see the noise against J C Penney for hiring Ellen, spokesperson http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-ticker/ellen-degeneres-only-choice-jc-penney-ceo-says-221440378.html
1997 all those people outraged that Ellen came out on the Puppy Episode, treating her as undesirable and repugnant.
Claiming Christian beliefs require sending messages to block certain people from marrying and actively trying to work against it by buying more chicken? Keep smiling people, be proud you work to prevent freedom to marry. The OMM person commented that JCP stock went down (below). Trying to force a new spokesperson, just WOW! Lots of noise.
Oops! maybe ignoring them works? http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/03/09/anti-gay-anti-ellen-degeneres-boycott-fails-miserably/
But - good to know if I ever crave a chicken sandwich, I will not choose to buy one where I am viewed as "unworthy" of equal protection of laws, so unworthy that organizations are formed to be sure of it. Too bad, the rest of the nation is trending toward marriage equality, so they fight and fight. People put people into comas like Jim Collins above and be intimidated called names and things thrown at them. I don't support THAT, which is a byproduct of all this noise. Those people are not defending "free speech", but under the surface, trying to intimidate "us". Look at the yelling above, from Geoffrey. Reward in heaven?
Is that what Jesus meant by treating your neighbors as yourself? I don't think so.
Or beaten to death, or raped and shot dead, or have homophobic slurs carved into their bodies. The people who commit these atrocities were inspired by the hateful speech and actions of others. Right-wingers like to howl "What about the children?" Well, what about them? What lessons are their children taking away from this endless hate-a-palooza? They're not learning how to be good, decent people. They're learning how to abuse and beat and murder other people who have done no harm to them at all, and they don't always wait to grow up before they go on the rampage.
What about the Children....they are learning how to sing Ain't no Homos gonna go to heaven in church.
Yikes, not again.
People need to see the results of marginalizing people. They dress it up as a nice "belief". My friend holding a Stop H8 sign was yelled at "It's not hate, stupid". Well, this thing only furthers the concept of "them" and some take it as consent to ridicule, yell, throw stuff, hit, beat, carve, kill us.
I agree Sandy, and perhaps I should have put..."some of the children..." instead of making it a general assertion.
for some reason this pic reminds me the smiling racists in the photos from the segregated past. I can imagine that there were people on that bus saying - that will teach the fags and dykes, standing up for what they believe in and how dare they not buy chikfila !
Well then, add that photo at the top to the other ones from history:

This is what I had to post for my own friends:
For a long time, Chik-Fil-A has been donating money to groups that seek to deny gay American citizens the same rights as the rest of us. More recently, Chik-Fil-A’s CEO stated his personal position on marriage. Also recently, people have decided to boycott Chik-Fil-A. Two of these things are related; one is not.
If we believe Mike Huckabee, Chik-Fil-A is being boycotted because of what the CEO said on his personal views and that the boycott’s purpose is to deny him his right to free speech. For lack of a better way of putting it, that is total bull@!$%#. The boycott is not to hurt him, personally, for his personal views and certainly is not trying to deny him the right to free speech. No, this is about the groups Chik-Fil-A donates to, lobbying groups that have successfully denied American citizens the right to marry, seek to deny more citizens the right to marry and also seek to allow gay people to be discriminated against. This is about basic rights and Chik-Fil-A’s customers’ money being used to hurt other people. Free speech is being bandied about in an attempt to silence critics. Mike Huckabee and his ilk are acting butthurt about the boycott in an attempt to shame critics into not exercising their free speech rights. So in a sense, it could be about free speech but not remotely in the way that Chik-Fil-A supporters claim.
Personally, I am joining the Chik-Fil-A boycott but I am not limiting it to Chik-Fil-A. Any company that I find out donates to a cause that hurts other people will no longer receive my business. As a Christian, I cannot persecute others. It’s morally wrong. As an American and a patriot, I cannot because the Constitution claims we should all have the same rights and they shall not be abridged. And as an American, denying rights to one group scares me. They want to deny gay people the right to marry and not be discriminated against. They’ve already sought to deny women the right to control their own bodies (abortion and birth control). Who’s to say what right they will seek to take away next? Interracial marriage? Freedom of religion? Freedom of speech? Unreasonable search and seizure has already come under attack before, so why not again? Voting rights are under attack now too. Will I one day risk jail if I refuse to vote for Republicans?
This cannot stand. There are two ways I can contribute to change: take my money to Chik-Fil-A’s competitors (ones that don’t donate to groups seeking to deny rights to my fellow citizens) and to vote against the people that would allow this to happen. If Chick-Fil-A changes its behavior, I will gladly go back to them. Their food is good.
If you don’t like the thought of people being denied rights or the thought that you may eventually be targeted for a new denial, join the boycott. If you’re concerned about lost jobs, don’t be: going to a competitor helps the competitor and jobs are not actually lost. That’s capitalism. That’s voting with your wallet. If you have no problem with people being denied rights, by all means go to Chik-Fil-A. You give up the right to complain when you’re next in line to be denied something.
I did the same thing on my FB page...I posted this...
I usually don't put things about religion or politics on my FB page, but with the barrage of Political and Religious zealotry I have been getting from a lot of folks on my Friends List, I have felt the need to do so lately.
So lets just get this straight, for the record. I support individuals and companies having the right to follow any values and core beliefs they want to follow. I support their right to announce those values to the world. I DO NOT SUPPORT any individual or company having the right to spread lies, hate, stereotypes, and bigotry about other people just because said people don't adhere to that individual or companies values or core beliefs.
Chick-Fil-A expressed their support of traditional family values. GOOD FOR THEM. SHAME on ANYONE who thinks they were wrong for standing up for what they think.
BUT...BUT...then they stepped over the line by calling anyone who doesn't believe what they believe "prideful" and "arrogant". They used corporate funds to fund hate groups in an attempt to force their beliefs onto others. That is wrong.
You may not believe that being gay is right, but it doesn't give you the right to force your values on others. If you can't respect the right of other people to live in equality with you, then you are in essence, forcing your values on other people.
You have every right to be a bigot, but a gay person has every right to be gay, married, and have the fundamental protections provided by the law of a democracy that supports that right.
Then I posted these links under it.
http://nashua.patch.com/articles/nashua-chick-fil-a-to-sponsor-nh-pride-fest
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-badash/chick-fil-a-5-reasons-it-isnt-what-you-think_b_1725237.html
THEN one of my "friends" posted this from the Chick-Fil-A FB page.
The Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 Restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators. Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.
Chick-fil-A is a family-owned and family-led company serving the communities in which it operates. From the day Truett Cathy started the company, he began applying biblically-based principles to managing his business. For example, we believe that closing on Sundays, operating debt-free and devoting a percentage of our profits back to our communities are what make us a stronger company and Chick-fil-A family.
Our mission is simple: to serve great food, provide genuine hospitality and have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.
That is when I lost my cool and went on a UNFRIENDING SPREE! Anyone too lazy or stupid or hate filled to not realize or agree with the crap Chick-Fil-A supports isn't someone I want to be around. Sadly my mother and sister and probably my Aunt fall into that catagory as well. (Still trying to figure out how to be around my family without wanting to strangle them or beat my head against a wall till it's bloody.)
Are they on a little yellow bus?
Gotta love the way those Faux News folks use that reverse logic in phrasing pro civil rights issues as somehow “anti Christian.” As far as I’m concerned corporate sponsored hatred, bigotry, and exclusion are the ultimate in anti-Christian behavior. Love thy brother much? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
They are basically saying giving people equal rights is taking away their rights. That will be the question from the courts. How does marriage equality harm your rights? They go to the Bible, which is not used for laws. There is an effort on a grand scale (conveniently again an election year folks) to portray Christians as being denied rights, when it is not.
They think voting is how to do this, then those voters will vote after being told that God is with Republicans (Whuut?) Well, that's what they tell people http://www.yuricareport.com/Religion/IsGodARepublican_JimWallis.html
They started with free speech is denied, then they were shown boycott is free speech. Then they said his beliefs were being attacked. Whuut????
Those boycotting chic fil a now being portrayed as hypocrites and bigots against Christians, but this is just wrong, the people can believe stuff. There are plenty of bigots that think they have a right to discriminate, but the law says if you do, be prepared for consequences. A church is a church and a business is a business and public is public. Trying to insert church into business and public. But no, no… can't insert public or business into church.
We can say why we disagree, but that can't be allowed by these folks because their beliefs are attacked and they are the victims, not LGBTQ. We are supposed to stop fighting for freedom for all because they believe "those people" are not worthy and our values are the authority of all values. No, they are not. You vote for representatives to interpret our Constitution, not the Bible) and laws must be consistent with Constitution, not the Bible.
Now I have to repeat that there other Christians that are accepting of non traditional families and people.
It seems pretty clear there are some Christians are insisting upon having authority and dominion over everyone. I also believe there are some that are only seeking political power and control using Christians and other devout religious people to get power and control.
I believe that should be very much exposed and in no uncertain terms, you are not the victim if everyone does not comply with your beliefs.
There is a push for control using victimhood and have the public come to defend a person that wants to restrict rights. Marriage has already been decided by Supreme Court to be a right.
There is a difference between having different beliefs and going out to purchase a good or service, a good or service that one might not otherwise purchase, to specifically support hate groups.
That's just it, I REALLY think some of them are just soooooo clueless they don't realize that it was about more then free speech or the right to have Christian Values.
