About a month ago, American Bridge uncovered a pretty amusing video. In it, we see Mitt Romney, six years ago, putting his jobs record in context: "I came in and the jobs had been just falling off a cliff.... It takes a while to get things turned around. We were in a recession; we were losing jobs every month. We've turned it around and now we're adding jobs."
Of course, using the identical standard, President Obama's jobs record is also a success.
Overnight, American Bridge uncovered another gem.
For those who can't watch clips online, Romney is seen defending the Bush/Cheney jobs record in 2004 -- on Election Day 2004, Bush's net jobs total was still negative -- with this argument:
"The people of America recognize that the slowdown in jobs that occurred during the early years of the Bush administration were the result of a perfect storm. And an effort by one candidate to somehow say, 'Oh, this recession and the slowdown in jobs was the result of somehow this president magically being elected,' people in America just dismiss that as being poppycock. And they recognize it as that. [...]
"Every indication is that the economic policies adopted and pursued by this president are creating jobs at a very high pace. And so the people of America have to ask, 'Do I stay with the president, who is rebuilding the economy, who is creating jobs, or do you want to stop mid-stream and find someone new?'"
Sometimes, it seems as if the Romney of the recent past would practically be willing to endorse President Obama's re-election campaign.

Mitt, you simply have to stop making these re-elect Obama commercials! You're running for president, for Pete's sake.
(Who is this Pete, anyway, and why does he want you to run?)
Maybe he is Bette Davis's old boyfriiend, Peter, Peter, Peter. Or it could be a reference to Peter, Peter pumpkineater. Or he's talking to his hero Peter Pan.
If you think about the situation logically there are two possibilities that I could come up with.
Either it doesn't matter who's in office because they have little effect on the economy and jobs or
Neither one of them care enough to do anything that really matters
Can you think of any other possibilities?
If the American people actually had a choice mid-stream, we would have booted Bush out a long time ago. We had no choice against voter suppression , rigging the poles and other deceitful Republican tactics all designed to benefit their rich oil friends and their friendly Corporations. We have a choice now, and if voting was legite in this Country, Romney would lose by a landslide. Do they actually think they win by cheating. Nobody wins!
What do "poles" have to do with it? Leave Poland alone!
Is the pole a pope? Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.
We may have a choice, if the Jim Crow laws in places like Pennsylvania and Florida are overturned. And if the Diebold voting machines are no longer rigged in favor of Republican candidates. Otherwise, Obama will likely need at least a ten-point spread in swing states to overcome Republican chicanery.
More "Gotcha" Youtube-ism. We need Sarah Palin to speak out about this while choking to death on a chicken sandwich!
I regret to inform you that you Mitt are the republican candidate. Sad to say it but yes you are their choice. Did they decide you were the best man for the job? That would be doubtful except that they also chose Bachman,O'Donnel and various assorted nuts.
I would caution the naysayers to remember GW Bush served not just one but two terms so go vote in November unless you want to kill America.
Just another example of why I believe that the most entertaining and informative debate this fall would be between Mitt and Willard, not Mitt and Obama. "Mitt" could advocate for his current positions, "Willard" could argue for his previous positions. Or at least one of them.
Come to think of it, the Obama campaign could probably come up with some interesting campaign ads around this theme.
I, for one, wish they would. And end every ad with the tag line "Mitt. What a hypocrite!"
YES, and they should! Production costs would be low, because you'd only have to paste old and new clips of Mitt together. Sound track need only be derisive laughter, getting louder and louder.
Oh this is precious. Original Romney definately could be the top Obama campaign ad writer exposing the hypocrisy of the new Fake Romney! The ads write themselves! Bring it!
Dems should just clip out "Bush" from that first paragraph, and play the rest of it in ads.
If anyone gives them grief for the edit, they should just respond with, "anyone here think Bush faced more of a 'perfect storm' in January 2001 than Obama did in January 2009?"
It wouldn't be true Bush and friends started this miss you need to wake up. Lucky it was time for him to go. the problem now is the Republicans are fighting this President and anything he wants to do and most of the things they were for. The main thing is they wanted to get him out of office. If you think about he has done more for the American people then any white president that we have had and he came into mess worse then it was told. He stop this counrty from going into a deeper recesssion and the unemployment was way down when he came in.You can't clean up what has taken 8 year to get where we are it will take take time and of the Republican would have work with him we would have bee in better shape then we are now.
This guy is laughable to say the least. How did he get the nomination again. I think Herman Cain would be doing better at this point with Mitt's shenanigans and backwards ideology. It will be great to see him retroactively walk back those comments.
I like low-tech cyclist's idea.
"Every indication is that the economic policies adopted and pursued by this president are creating jobs at a very high pace. And so the people of America have to ask, 'Do I stay with the president, who is rebuilding the economy, who is creating jobs, or do you want to stop mid-stream and find someone new?'"
The Obama campaign should just run that clip continuously.
First off, go ahead and edit out the "Bush" and insert Obama. How could they complain when the have some of the 'best or worst' (depending on how you look at it) editors around running their ads. Second point, isn't it great that Congress held a vote about about English only instead of a few jobs jobs jobs bills to help America, and help Obama in the process (NEVER), before vacationing? Third point, the Tea-publicans have stated that the Mitt-ster isn't nearly close to being "Right" enough for them. So instead of just lying to the undecided voters, he'll have to lie even more to appease the extreme right wing base. Oh what a tangled web we weave ....
Painful. There are just some things that you cannot buy---integrity and the presidency, I hope.
Sorry darlin, how do you think we got Shrub to begin with in 2000?
Romney is so bad that I'm beginning to wonder if the republicans are planning to pull a bait & switch at the convention, especially after seeing the "kinder, gentler" Chris Christie on TV last night.
Admittedly, I'm a conspiracy-theorist from way back, but think about it . . . most republicans don't even like Romney, and Christie would energize the base.
My stomach hurts.
Naw, the base knows he's pro-choice, and they'd rather have the Secret Billionaire. Regardless of the candidate, the base will hold their collective nose and vote against the man who (curiously) remains black.
Thanks for talking me down, Bob.
Still . . . I hope the Obama campaign has done opposition research on every possibility.
Not to mention the fact that the GOP is running Romney only for his ability to sign bills. Corporate 'Amercia' will dictate policy, stick their collective hand up Mitt's dressaged a$$, and manipulate him as they choose.
It would take Corporate America much longer to get their hand up Christie's a$$, for more reasons than one.

Yes; almost too good to be true. You can't say "they both suck" on a national TV campaign ad, but somone more clever than myself could make geat use of ths.
That Rep Kelly numbskull fat fanatic should not qualify to be paid by our taxes. What the big deal about contraception? Another proof that US lags far below education and literacy of some 20 other developed countries. Hey, why don't they instead rant for masterbation, oral/anal sex which don't fertilize?
Or as Stephen Colbert is fond of saying: "Thank you for agreeing with me."
