President Obama noted last night the Mitt Romney's tax plan intends to raise taxes on the middle class in order to finance another tax break for millionaires and billionaires. "It's like Robin Hood in reverse – it's Romney Hood," Obama told supporters.
Today, Romney responded on Fox News.
For those who can't watch clips online, Romney said, in response to the president's quip, "If I were to coin a term, it would Obamalogna. He's serving up a dish which is simply in contradiction of the truth."
First, maybe the guy who's demonstrated a near-pathological habit of lying uncontrollably should avoid whining about "contradictions of the truth." Second, an independent analysis of Romney's tax plan bolsters Obama's argument.
And third, I'm not sure if Romney's software needs a patch, but the whole point of "coining a term" is coming up with something memorable and easy to repeat. After having a day to think about it, Romney came up with "Obamalogna?" Seriously? And Fox News' Carl Cameron, an apparent Romney backer, considers this "a bumper-sticker line"?
I can't believe we have 91 more days of this until Election Day.

Obamalogna? Really! If that's the best they can do then this country is in real trouble if he wins.
Give them a break. They came up with "lamestream media" after all. It's about par with the playground-level discourse we've seen over the years.
To be fair, I'm not fond of "Romney Hood" either.
If Romney actually came across as giving some thought to his counterattack rather than a pouting five-year old, people would likely be more lenient in their critique.
At least I know I would.
Rich people that make millions of dollars a year and paying more in taxes, do you actually think their spending habits are going to change in comparison to the middle class or poor? No, rich people will still continue to spend as they always have, regardless if they pay more in taxes or not. Rich people make so much money it doesn't matter or even affect their pocket book, when it comes to spending money or not. All the rich people are doing there is just trying to weasel to make more money, because of the greed in it.
The problem isnt their spending. Its their saving. They are hoarding billions of dollars, sometimes in offshore accounts. All of this money is taken out of the equation causing us to have to print more money causing inflation. Eat the rich...there's only one thing they're very good for. Eat the rich.. I'll take one bite now, and come back for more.
I agree with your monetary analysis, but your dietary advice is probably unhealthy and certainly disgusting!
Well, jeeze. There must have been dozens of millionaires that went broke paying taxes, right? Isn't that why they don't want their taxes raised?
/snark
when did they pay more in taxes?

My take -- In his mind, the $1000 a year increase we'll see doesn't count. He cannot even wrap his head around that "small" an amount of money, and what difference its loss will make to us. He is completely out of touch with the working middle class.
Romney is full of Mitt.
Wouldn't Obama Mayer Baloney be a lot catchier, geesh
Shhhhhhhh....you'll give them ideas!
Barackaloney
Rich in money, but poor in comebacks.
All that good education, 2 different ivy league degrees wasted! If his parents where alive they should ask for their money back.
Not even a major "code review" can save this bucket 'o horse-hockey now (much less a patch.). You're right Mr. Benen about the contradictions and contraindications of the Rmoney X.0 enigma.
Remember, the two tactics of the Romney campaign are pathological lying and "I know you are, but what am I?" I can't think of an instance where the latter tactic has worked, and in fact it often attracts attention to the fact that they do exactly what they're complaining about, but that doesn't seem to have stopped them.
It's the lamestream media; they overlook his pathological lies unless they're gaffes as well. They're enablers.
Romney is gonna offend his bologna eating constituency.
My bologna has a first name, it's WILLARD. My bologna has a second name, it's ROMNEY. Oh I love to hear him everyday, and if you asked me why I'd say, Cause Willard Mitt Romney's got a way with BOLOGNA.
Obamalonga? Didn't they sing that song "I get knocked down, but I get up again"?
Hilarious.
Wow..did Mittens get lost in his mansion and end up in the servants luncheon quarters? Cause I have no clue how else he'd know about bologna.
I'm surprised Romney didn't offer his truth-concealing uncomfortable laugh after his "Obamalogna" comment. "Obamalogna tee-hehe hehe (SMILE)."
the sad this is, all the Republicans, believe what Mitt says. That is the really scary part of all this
The real scary part of all this, is that the Republicans in this country , actually believe what Mitt is saying
Not necessarily; they don't really like him, they just don't care if he's lying. They hate the President that much.
Mitt Romney is all the GOP needs him to be, he isn't Obama. Romney is the time of guy who when you ask him the time and he tells you check with the radio and just in case he is friends with the DJ, you call your friend, your friend might have gone over to Romney's side so you call a random phone number. If all three give the same time then can believe Romney.
Figures that Romney's tin ear would get his phrase-coining wrong. For most of us kids who took lunch boxes to school, mom packed sandwiches made with baloney. Even If a prep school kid like Willard knew what a lunch box was, his would contain sandwiches made with 'bologna'.
Number 1. Romney should resign, because he is a crooked liar. 2. He should fire his whole campaign staff for being so stupid to come up with this name. 3. Romney is not a leader, he gets his cues from whatever President Obama says, than lies and distorts what President Obama said. 4. Romney should take Harry Reid to court, whoops he won't do that because than he'd have to put into evidence his tax returns and he won't do that. 5. How in the heck can the Republican Party put Romney up as a representative of their party, I mean either Romney has a very low I.Q or else he is in first or second stage Alzheimers. I'll step of the soap box now. thankyou for listening to my speech.
They don't want a leader; they came out and said as much a while ago. They made clear that they just want a basic primate, with an opposable thumb, who'll sign whatever
anti abortion madnessgarbage they put in front of him.LOL! I don't know which is funnier - that Romney expects us to believe he came up with this all by himself or that Carl Cameron thinks it's a good bumper sticker line.
$2000.00 is junk change to a man who wants to bet 10,000.00 on some stupid political remark in a debate. This and all he does show he has no idea of the needs of the American people. Mitt is more that happy to give himself and his friends more to create jobs but where are the jobs. Tax cuts for 11 years where the heck are the jobs??????? just askin
Whether it's the Paul Ryan Plan or the Mitt Romney plan--we've known all along that it is a Robin-Hood-in-reverse Plan! Why Rightwing voters don't see it is beyond me! They are voting against their own best interests and taking the rest of us along with them!
Oba Maloney? Doesn't he work down at the 5th precinct?
Romney is running for King, not President. As King, he can make things true by edict, sorta like Cheney did in the last Republican administration.
i cant wait for the debates this fall. Obama will quip (whip) Mitt into pieces...
