First, the Nuns on the Bus launched an extraordinary tour, lambasting the House Republican Budget plan crafted by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) for the way in which it mistreats the poor.
Now the Nuns on the Bus have a few thoughts for the Republicans' presidential hopeful.
NETWORK, a National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, is inviting Governor Mitt Romney to spend a day with Catholic Sisters who work every day to meet the needs of struggling families in their communities. Sister Simone Campbell, NETWORK's Executive Director and leader of the "Nuns on the Bus" tour, said that she especially encourages Mr. Romney to work alongside the Sisters as they serve the people. These are the people who will be further harmed by his proposed budget cuts and by the terribly divisive and demeaning political advertisements about welfare.
The Sisters' invitation comes after recent false attacks from Mr. Romney that demonstrate his lack of understanding of the struggles families and children face as they work to get out of poverty.
In a statement, Sister Simone Campbell said, "Recent advertisements and statements from the campaign of Governor Romney demonize families in poverty and reflect woeful ignorance about the challenges faced by tens of millions of American families in these tough economic times. We are all God's children and equal in God's eyes. Efforts to divide us by class or score political points at the expense of the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters reveal the worst side of our country's politics."
I rather doubt Romney will accept the invitation, but I'm reminded of something Rachel said on the air in June: "I have one thing to say here personally, not as a TV show host here but just as a person who happens to be related to some nuns: don't mess with nuns. It's not a warning. It's not advice. It's not a threat. It's fact that I have learned from personal experience. Ask anybody in my family, if you mess with nuns, you will lose every time. You will always regret messing with nuns."

Especiaqlly if they smack him with a ruler. I can just see little Willard running out of the bus squealing "Mommy! They hitted me!!"
And they were always fast and accurate with those rulers, too!
I'm a non-believer, but didnt' Jesus devote his life to the kind of work these nuns are doing? They're better human beings than I am, and much better human beings than Mitt, all his tithing notwithstanding. THAT's the reason he'll stay away from them. They won't hit him, they'll show him (and everybody else) what a weasel he is.
The nuns on the bus go "smack, smack, smack..."
Yes, 12 yrs of Catholic School, the ruler is a favorite for discipline. One of the Nuns had a thick paddle with holes in it to "hit" the message home!
PEACE!
Catholic school, vicious as Roman rule,
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
-Death Cab for Cutie
They're tough, no doubt, but just remember they're not always on your side.
Still, anytime it comes down to the nuns versus the Vatican, the nuns' side is the right side to be on.
Yes I got my a$$ beat by a nun with a large safety patrol stop paddle. All I did was stick my tongue out at someone (not her).Ouch they're tough.
Yea, nuns always win, just ask someone I know that got the crap beat out of him by a nun with a "hot wheels racetrack"....LOL
GO NUNS!
This is a clip from The Daily Show
http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-july-26-2012/bad-habit
Even the former Mafia guy knows better than to mess with nuns
Piano lessons from a nun = a pencil point to the temple of my head instead of a metronome to help me keep time, and to the back of the knuckles when I messed up.
We wont talk about the principle who had a paddle on it's own shelf with a nice display rack to hold it up.
Sadly, I think these nuns are wasting their time. Mitt Romney is well aware of the plight of the disadvantaged and the poor ... he just couldn't care less.
I don't think the nuns believe they will change RoMoneyHood, but rather educate the public about his plans and lack of caring.
Go Sisters!
Mitt said he is not worried about the poor as they have safety nets.....
yeah, safety nets he would probably yank out from underneath them!
The fact that Mitt Romney is careless of the nuns is obvious, but is he careless of votes? You can't be president alienating women, nuns, blacks, gay and poverty in general, how to get 50,01% of votes, it is just mathematic, election are not magics ?
You can still win if you block them from voting...
Love Rachel
Nuns, the real God Party taking on the Faux God Party.
Just awe-inspiring.
Just wish the real God party was louder.
Darn, I could start to really like nuns!
Romney can simply ignore the nuns. They are wrong on so many levels in his eyes, religion, being women, etc that I'm guessing he has trouble believing that they simply exist.
I wish the nuns would tell Benny to go to the hell he prates on about.
Go nuns!
But if you think the sight of the unfortunate will affect an amoral asswhole like Mitt Romney you have another thing coming, and I can assure it will not. He simply doesn't give a damn and most of his supporters are the same way. They simply DO NOT give a damn.
Don't forget it's the Catholic nuns versus the Catholic Bishops. HypoMitt is a Mormon Bishop. So which side do you think he will take?
love that term "hypomitt".
If Romney is a Mormon Bishop - a leader in his Church - that does not reflect positively on the Mormon Church. Do they as a religion condone his lying? Do they as a religion condone fixing an election to win? Do they as a religion share his views on poor people? Do they believe in hiding things from their members as Romney hides things from us? Curious - if they do they seem more like a business than a religion - like fuller brush and vacuum salesmen of yesteryear they go door to door selling their product. In the past I have respected the Mormon Religion as being under the Christian Umbrella, but if Romney is a representation of this Religion, I am sorry I do not think that any more.
Yes. It does condone lying if it furthers Mormon ascendency. Check out the prophecy of the white horse.

@Lorr-2611132 I agree. Not to mention, which I have numerous times with no pick-up, the Mormon position on Gambling, from which Romney is reaping huge contributions from Adelson. Why no pushback on this front?
Romney (imagined): What? ME? Rubbing shoulders with the disgusting poor??
Mitt? Working as a volunteer, alongside the nuns, to help the disadvantaged? Best laugh I had in weeks.
It's strange... When the Obamas are shown serving lunch at some soup kitchen or Obama (then candidate) is shown pitching in to help sandbag a flood, even if it's just a campaign photo-op, they always act natural. Can anyone imagine The Robot doing anything like that? Either he wouldn't know what to do and how to do it, or else he'd be wiping his hands with a sanitizer after every plate he handed over.
I'd love to see Romney doing a photo-op at a soup kitchen. He'd probably complain about the food.
(If you think about it, if he wasn't so incredibly awkward around normal people, it would actually be a natural fit for his campaign themes -- (falsely) blaming the economy on Obama, and charity rather than government helping people.)
I still can't believe he went to a hardware store and bought some "hardware stuff"!
He would probably chastise them for being homeless and a drag on society.
What a great opportunity for Mr. Romney -- he can do "nun stuff."
Nuns vote. And so do the many Catholics that still listen to them.
Well, I guess Dems need the nuns because Romney has the whores (literally and figuratively).
HAHA Exactly...
Nuns, catholic that listen to them, and all others that see the truth in their message here.
Mitt has an aversion to associating with people in uniform so he used the missionary position to avoid the military. He would be extremely intimidated by a bus load of nuns even if they were in civilian clothes. It is harder to lie around truly honest people, especially educated females. He can not dig out his cop uniform to scare them. He can not buy them off. He will make some b s statement about their sincerity and avoid interacting with them. Maybe he will send wifey to schmooze like he did when he gave the check to the Planned Parenthood affair while electioneering in Massachusetts.
Yes. and now he wants his money back from Planned Parenthood.
I've got it! Mitt says that poor people can be innovative too, they just have to ask their parents for start up money, right? And since religious people think of God as the Almighty Father, then all poor people have to do is ask God through their church (since they speak for God) to give them money for this start up money. Romney, as a higher-up in his church is a perfect "Father"-figure to ask for money, and he's got loads of it. So all poor people have to do is convert to Mormonism, hit up Romney for their start-up money, and poof! No more poor people. No more people on the dole. End of government handouts. Problem solved.
Sarcasm off now. LOL
But you were on a roll :o)
Willard can't win against the nuns...they aren't playing with him
Real Nuns wear black. I guess they aren't counting the millions Romney gave to charity vs. the $700,00 or so Obama did? The left loves the Nuns when they are for their guy, but look out if they try to teach our children.
counting the millions Romney gave to charity.
I dare you to find and name that information you just made up?
You mean donations to the mormon church which used it to sway the gay marriage vote in California, among other things. And don't try to tell me they didn't donate a huge chunk of it to his campaign How can they be tax exempt when they use the money for political purposes.
What kind of number is $700,00 I am confused. Romney gave all his charity to the Mormon Church I don't know what they did with it, probably used it to purchase the land and build the mega mall across the street from their Tabernacle.
BTW not all nuns wear black.
And Mitt the Sh*t won't take them up on the offer because then he'd have to see poor people as PEOPLE instead of as the demonized scourge of society that he'd really like them to be. The saddest part of it all is that if he is elected and makes the changes that he wants to enact the people who will be most affected are children. Think about that for a moment - children in this land of so much abundance are going without food or shelter (don't get me started on Homeless Veterans).
We all should be ashamed of ourselves for what we allow to go on in this Country to our neighbors.

There ya go.
Sorry, I thought it was 700K too, it's actually much lower, and yes even BO donated to a *gasp* religious organization.
BO tends to be about in the 6% of income to charity range compared to Mitt's 15-ish percent.
Mormon church requires 10% of your annual income be given as your Tithing.
In other words , you were full of @!$%# eric , got it
As was pointed out , romney is a bishop or what have you of the church he is so CHARITABLE towards , if obama was the lead deacon of his church while they doled out millions to he cause , you would be @!$%#ting your magic gop underwear
Looks like everything Willard gave to charity was to the mormon church. How very charitable of him.
Yeah, Obama gave less than I gave him credit for and that makes ME full of $%#$%#$%. You are hilarious...what color is the sky in your world?
Actually, many Catholic nuns, and these in particular, and pissing off the Vatican. You go, girls!
Yes they are and I applaud them for it and echo your "you go girls"
Romney is a heretic. The nuns would do well not to have anything to do with him on that basis alone, I'd think.
Daniel, the nuns are ever merciful and would take pity even on Rmoney and get him to see the errors of his ways -- even if it meant rapping him on the knuckles with a ruler a few [dozen] times! :-D
Oh Lord have mercy, here it comes! Republicans and Fox News are going to whine incessantly while burning Nuns in televised effigy.
Lorr-261132, just ask some of the members of the Mormon church who diligently tithe their 10% to the church but never are told where the money goes. Mittens is just following church doctrine, and you don't need to know where his money goes either.
Yes , just because american tax payers are subsidizing the billion dollar mormon industry , does not mean it is any of our business what they do with all that wealth , we know a lot of it goes to the passing of discriminatory laws , and getting candidates elected that end up effecting the direction of our nation , which makes it every americans business
A possible quote from Romney: "I've done plenty of charity work in my time. I'm not going to provide any proof, just take my word for it."
Nunless Romney will carry on. It seems a habit of his to look down on others. As to getting him on a bus, is it a customized million dollar RV?
Paul
He doesn't even ride on the bus. He takes a private jet to each stop. It is too beneath him to actually ride his custom bus from location to location.
r u kidding me? it would not surprise me
The nuns are saying they will have none of that Mr. Romney! (So many nun puns, so little time!)
Went to Catholic school for two years, and I'm not even catholic. Don't mess with the nuns.
I agree with what the Nuns are saying. However, as a former Catholic who was forced to attend 12 years of brutal Catholic schools and has studied much about the Catholic faith, the Republican party is far more benign than the Catholic Church! I left the catholic church at age 21 whenI realized how oppressive it is especially towards women, as I am a woman. The Nuns don't realize how they are being exploited imo.
So pleased the nuns are involved. They helped push AHA over the top. I must read more about Brigham Young's grandaughter leaving the church over values. The condoning of lying and the "white horse prophecy" have piqued my curiosity. I also know very little about the sect save they have a great choir. I thought they were under the Christian umbrella also, not so apparently. Will research, but given the liiar, liar pants on fire award so often rests on Mr. Romney's comments I am leaning towards the belief that his beliefs do not reflect those of many in this country.
