First, the Nuns on the Bus launched an extraordinary tour, lambasting the House Republican Budget plan crafted by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) for the way in which it mistreats the poor.
Now the Nuns on the Bus have a few thoughts for the Republicans' presidential hopeful.
NETWORK, a National Catholic Social Justice Lobby, is inviting Governor Mitt Romney to spend a day with Catholic Sisters who work every day to meet the needs of struggling families in their communities. Sister Simone Campbell, NETWORK's Executive Director and leader of the "Nuns on the Bus" tour, said that she especially encourages Mr. Romney to work alongside the Sisters as they serve the people. These are the people who will be further harmed by his proposed budget cuts and by the terribly divisive and demeaning political advertisements about welfare.
The Sisters' invitation comes after recent false attacks from Mr. Romney that demonstrate his lack of understanding of the struggles families and children face as they work to get out of poverty.
In a statement, Sister Simone Campbell said, "Recent advertisements and statements from the campaign of Governor Romney demonize families in poverty and reflect woeful ignorance about the challenges faced by tens of millions of American families in these tough economic times. We are all God's children and equal in God's eyes. Efforts to divide us by class or score political points at the expense of the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters reveal the worst side of our country's politics."
I rather doubt Romney will accept the invitation, but I'm reminded of something Rachel said on the air in June: "I have one thing to say here personally, not as a TV show host here but just as a person who happens to be related to some nuns: don't mess with nuns. It's not a warning. It's not advice. It's not a threat. It's fact that I have learned from personal experience. Ask anybody in my family, if you mess with nuns, you will lose every time. You will always regret messing with nuns."

Romney won't get on the bus with them, but he'll be glad to have his own campaign bus drive around theirs in circles honking its horn while they try to talk. Does that count?
Mitt Romney care about poor people? Didn't you guys watch the news yesterday? Someone told him there were some of "those" people near his vacation house so he had to rush out and buy some "Hardware stuff" to get rid of the stains.....
In private Romney calls the poor, pest.
I think the Nuns want little Mitt under the bus. If they keep coming after him, he just might end up in the Mittless Protection Program.... just sayin'
I think the nuns want Mitt under the bus! If they keep after him, he may have to enter the Mittless Protection Program.... juts sayin'
Love Rachel, Love the NUNs, Love Harry Reid and Love President Obama.
Don't you just love those NUNs I sure do ..best thing to come out of the Catholic church in years...
Well, these women are trying their best to help those in greatest need, and I for one am quite tired of nun bashing. I had 8 years of parochial school and never was hit by a nun. But the guys at the local public middle school were frequently paddled with a three foot long, 4" wide paddle with holes drilled in it; a girl I dated told me of how her piano teacher would smack her knuckles until they bled if she moved them too high across the keyboard; oh, and yes, a young woman I knew who attended a yeshiva in upstate New York told me the rabbis wouldn't allow the students to eat breakfast until they said their 'prayers' properly in Hebrew. So, get off the 'trash the nuns' bandwagon and say something constructive.
Hummm, and where did Sr Simone and the Nuns get this fancy bus? Certainly NOT on a "nun's salary.
George Soros. Now there's a 'real" catholic lover. The bus is a promotional donation from Billionare and political activist George Soros. Who do you think their media/communications rep works for? Soros.
The phoney's have already been exposed. These ladies hate the pope, literally.
Liberation Theology is alive & well at Network and with Nuns on the Soros anti catholic Bus.
Phoney's. they'd be better inviting the phoney Fluke to ride along.
The authentic NUNS are at EWTN
Personal I didn't know Rachel, but I will try to keep your comments in mind, promise not to mess around with monjas.Thank you very much.
The nuns are wise , They declared it publicly, "at the expense of the most vulnerable of our brothers and sisters". Now a big part of it is in Gods judgement, Now if Romney and his supporters continue to demonize the less fortunate, harm them, plot to further themselves financially or politically, no matter the turnout in this election or his other professional concerns, he is going to have to deal with God himself over it, because he knows right from wrong and now he for sure knows and can not feign ignorance, I pray he turns around his attacks on widow, the orphan, the disabled and the poor and encourages his supporters to conduct their lives in a more Godly way.
I want to know what our Catholic boys Santorium and Girich think of the nuns and the work that they do. They were for them when they were running themselves because of Religion but now they are standing with Romney. Are they real or two faced because they are Republican who only stand for the Party and not the people?
A peek into Mitt's psyche:
I don't worry about the problems of poor people … because there is a "safety net" … which I want to defund … because people (including single, full-time moms) who depend upon financial assistance such as food stamps lack dignity … because you must be completely self-sufficient to have self-worth … unless you inherited vast wealth ... like I did … in which case you are inherently highly dignified … because you are a person of power and authority … who gets to enjoy the sheer pleasure of firing people … which I did countless times while running Bain Capital, creating huge profits … for myself and my fellow investors … at the expense of fired workers … who, as a result, often joined the growing ranks of poor people in America … which I don't worry about.
They should be called nuns on the clue bus.
Actually, Catholic Bishops agree with the Nuns on the issue of taking care of the poor.I hope that since Ryan has joined the ticket, the nuns will extend their tour. I would donate to the cause. I would love to see the Nuns follow Mitt and Paul around the county.
Rachel, exactly how do you comingle with the Nuns on the Bus? Kind of hard to imagine.
As a child (6)I was placed in an Orphanage(sisters of Charity) later adopted and I went to Catholic school. (sisters of St. Joseph) teaching NUNS. I see that I got the best elementry education of nearly all my age (61). the 4 "r"s. Did kids get smacked? yes. most of the time it was for being disorderly. Not following rules. I did have to kneel and say 5 Hail Mary's for saying to another kid(that cursed) that he was going to HEll. Mother(head) said only God knows who will go to HELL.. I felt love, strived to please..get good grades win spelling bees. Write well(people know that I went to Catholic School because of my penmanship..I thought when the Nun's on the bus said Romney and Ryans plans were IMMORAL(Ryan claims hes Catholic) wow I thought this guy better spend the rest of his life changing and really becoming GOD like...I was always taught what would GOD do?? for sure not lie, cheat, steal and harm others...wow Paul Ryan you better start praying..because you are IMMORAL!!!
Santoram and NEWT(is one) are the very same people that the NUNS tried to help. They are insane. Scary, I believe that people that slam Nuns just show that they have no respect for anyone. Christen? Fox news and the Republican Party are everything but, Christen like..They are always biggots and racist. That is not being Christen. And since when to Christens be rude? slurring and down right lying? All they are missing is the VOODOO.(hum) does the witch come into mind?? Gee I am so embarrassed for the true Christens..they sure don't act GODLY...
