Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* What was a web video is now a broadcast ad: the Obama campaign has a new spot knocking down Mitt Romney's welfare lie. It's set to air in Colorado, Iowa, Florida, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia.
* MoveOn.org, meanwhile, launched a new spot today, focusing on Romney's plan to raise middle-class taxes. It will air in every city on Romney's four-day bus tour next week.
* Speaking of Romney's bus tour, the Democratic National Committee has a new "Romney Economics: The Middle Class Under the Bus Tour," which will run alongside Romney's excursion.
* The latest CNN poll shows President Obama leading Romney nationwide by seven points, 52% to 45%. A new Fox News poll shows Obama ahead nationally by an even larger margin, 49% to 40%. In both surveys, the president's lead is growing thanks to support from independents.
* The CNN poll, by the way, also shows Democrats leading Republicans on the congressional generic ballot, 45% to 39%.
* Romney has now raised nearly $400 million this cycle, roughly halfway to his $800 million goal.
* With time running out in Wisconsin's U.S. Senate Republican primary, PPP shows Eric Hovde with a narrow lead over Tommy Thompson, 27% to 25%.
* The Democratic Party platform's language on marriage equality is coming together, and the platform may also include support for the DREAM Act.
* Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.) has not returned to work, but he reportedly intends to seek re-election.
* And Republicans in Michigan's 11th district are still unsure what to do now that reindeer rancher and Santa impersonator Kerry Bentivolio (R) is their congressional nominee.

Excuse me, has the Allan West beating up white women campaign ad been discussed?

I think Benen should hold a contest to find the most base, rancid, offensive ad idea, and offer the winner a job at an Obama Pac. It's time to see how low the left can go.

I’d like to encourage more trollery on left wing sites. Specifically pushback on common memes such as identified by Jonah Goldberg as unchallenged cliches. It can actually work, and it can actually change the course of debate.
For instance, I always challenge “the rich take too much of the pie” meme. There is no pie, no one decides who gets what, and the “pie” is a measure of contributions to a total. Ergo the rich don’t take they contribute. It’s been gratifyingly effective.
Try it you’ll like it. Don’t curse and keep the personal insults to a bare minimum, don’t allow moving goal posts or distractions. Ignore trollish responders, and be four times more civil. They hate that.

So you have nothing to say about a Democrat ad that's offensive in the extreme? In fact, you're miffed that I even brought it up?
blanks,
You really are desperate.
Robme lies, lies, and lies some more in every single ad that he makes.
His surrogates are this close to calling Obama the N word, and you accuse the Democrats of being offensive and extreme?
Really blanks, you have got to do better than that.
Ah, here's Pooper242, urinating on fire hydrants again.
Okay, this ad isn't the most polished, but 1) it's a hoot; 2) it's factual 3) the ending is an even bigger hoot!
Alan West should be in a mental hospital, I thought the television spot let him off way too easily there Shooter. I'm being completely honest, the guy is a paranoid schizophrenic sociopath suffering PTSD (Post Tramatic Self Disorder).
Moveon makes the worst political ads.
worst? Nah...finally an ad that makes me laugh, ties in the policy that's objectionable, and shows what will happen if Romney is elected. What's not to like?
'What's not to like?'
unprofessional and silly compared to priorities USA/american bridge.
I still recall the 'dont betray us petraeus ' ny times ad. Complete idiocy.
generals dont make policy decisions - civilian politicians do.
I never saw the Petraeus ad so can't speak to that, but the visual image of Mitt picking the pockets of regular taxpayers, workers, family members in order to give the wealthiest even more wealth is priceless! The birth control jab pokes as it's intended to. This ad is the one under consideration, not the Petraeus ad which you focused on in your reply. If there are other MoveOn ads that are objectionable, you may have a point, but I think this one can pass a smell test for accuracy and persuasiveness. Not sure America responds to the "professional" ones as much as we'd all like; not a reason not to make ads more professional or accurate on either side...
What if the republicans conclude that Romney can't win? Can they run Chris Christie at this point? If they could, would it not be advantageous to do so?
Chris Christie can run?
Speaking of Romney's bus tour, the Democratic National Committee has a new "Romney Economics: The Middle Class Under the Bus Tour," which will run alongside Romney's excursion.
So we'll have dueling buses circling the events and honking? I'm sure the permanent 12 year olds of the Romoney campaign will be just dying to do so.
With time running out in Wisconsin's U.S. Senate Republican primary, PPP shows Eric Hovde with a narrow lead over Tommy Thompson, 27% to 25%.
Yes! Thank you TeaTards! Keep nominating the unelectable one, like you did with Akin the Loon down in Missouri. Wouldn't want to have someone more intelligent than your moron selves representing you in the election, would you?
Thank god Republicans are as ignorant and moron stupid as they are (as Pooper242 demonstrates for us every day)
Wonder if future Rep conventions will be moved up so campaign money can be used as needed?
That ad is the funniest thing in a long time.
"I think he stole my birth control too.." Snarkalicious!!
