Tonight's guests include:
Steve Schmidt, senior strategist for the McCain-Palin campaign and MSNBC contributor
Bob Herbert, distinguished senior fellow at Demos and contributor to PolicyShop.net, former columnist for The New York Times
And here's executive producer Bill Wolff with a preview of tonight's show:

Eh I don't like or care what Steve Schmidt has to say. Can't you not find more interesting guests? I don't watch Rachel every night anymore because she has on the same people that everyone else is on. I don't find Republicans interesting anymore. Is it more or it is just the repeat of the same crap we hear everyday with these politicians she has on? They are starting to sound like broken records.
Well, let him play out....He's only got what, bout 70 more days of relevance till another crop of failed campaign workers hit the scene!!!
Hoping Votto is back soon so the Reds can take back that number one spot..Just think Bill Wolff if Votto hadn't gotten hurt you could have just went ahead and hung your jersey up for the year :P...We shall soon take back spot number one...:)
Actually, for me, Rachel has been growing on me and I like her better and better over time. I think it started with talking about Herman Cain as an art project, a really good art project -- with the quotes from Pokeman and the tax structure from Sym City. I am now a bona fide admirer. I find her for the most part, having a fresh take, espousing a compelling theory with a compelling argument -- so that even when everybody's covering the same news, and might have the same guests, it's actually Rachel's take on things that gives it an intellligence and a difference, and viva la difference.

I agree about having Republicans on: there's generally no point. Even an amusing and likable Republican like Michael Steele is just a mouthpiece for the same talking points that get spouted all over Fox, Rush and Hannity every day.
More progressives, less boring cons.
I agree there is no point. Ya know what really bothers me? I know Rachel tries to get them to answer questions but it really bothers me when they refuse to answer and starts in on propaganda. It's like they are totally disrespectful to Rachel and she keeps having them back. She deserved better than the way they treat her. If it was me and I had a guest that ignored the host to go off on a tangent then I wouldn't have them back on the show. That's not fair to Rachel.
I'd like to defend Rachel's choice of Steve Schmidt. I think the guy is really
smart and I've never heard him spew the same old Repub garbage as the others
do. He is a strategist and seems to me to be more focused on analysis than
Party talking points. I say listen to him and give him a chance; maybe we'll
learn something.
Republicans never spew anything but their insane propaganda.
Agree Molly, he is the only repug I can stomach for just those reasons.
Romney asked if he would brink RomneyCare National in 2008: "Absolutely"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6xXoQY5OcI&feature=youtu.be
In 2012 he would repeal Obamacare, Now he is saying RomneyCare is good again.
Can we say flip-flop with massive doses of Etch-A-Sketching
RNC Convention is the Re-Introduction of Romney, Part 3 -- in this year alone. The primaries, after the primaries and now the Convention. Part 4 will be after the Convention as you cannot trust what comes out of his mouth. Is he for it, against it, for it again -- toss a coin.
Are these Republicans totally insane, when they sit there and talk about some poor woman or girl that has been raped or subjected to incest and be denied her very choices? Do these Republicans even think about how devastating that is to the woman or girl that is forced to carry such a pregnancy like that and how it will affect her the rest of her life? This is such a denial of the very thing that God has given us about freewill and puts this poor woman or girl into bondage by force. It is one thing that a woman or girl is allowed to choose what she wants to do and a whole another story of being forced into such a situation that becomes outright devastating to this woman’s or girl’s life forever. This is not love, compassion, or even understanding. But this does show a woman or girl by the Republicans of how she has no worth or value in the world, except to be subjected to the worst extremes she can ever imagine by men.
What makes this even worse is haven't these Republicans learned anything yet from the Penn State and Catholic Church scandals of abuse on children. This is just as bad as that.
Rachel head-banging = EPIC!
I was just watching Rachel and she said Cincinnati was the strip club capital of America (as opposed to Tampa, FL). bwahahahahaahahahahaha! THAT CAN'T BE RIGHT! This is no-sin-cinnnati. Remember Larry Flint? Maplethorp??? Come on now. You can probably count on one hand the strip clubs here. You have to go to Kentucky or out of the city for stuff like that. Please recheck this and confirm that you guys are wrong and issue a retraction on the show (or for all the guys who live here, post a listing of the strip clubs they are missing!!!)
That's because she was referring to it on a per capita basis. It goes Cincinnati, Las Vegas, then Tampa Florida.
Did u ever think the universe might be sending a message to the GOP on their convention? Who do u trust to handle an act of God disaster in earthquakes & water? Or maybe is this the candidate u really want to help us get back to good times? A Mitt Romney?
I was just thinking yesterday when I watched the Romney thing on CNN that the GOP is famous for the White Supremacist in their group funny u talked about it. Thank u for all the good shows u do.
Sadly, the welfare nonsense could be settled if media (progressive and otherwise) would explain social policies to a rather ignorant generation. We have NO citizens' entitlement to poverty relief. If you are impoverished and have a child, you might or might not be able to get temporary work (min. wage or less) via TANF, which will subsidize wages with food stamps to bring the worker's total income up near the poverty line. They also have Medicaid, necessary for required child immunizations. Using TANF labor saves businesses a LOT of money each year that they would otherwise have to pay in wages/benefits to middle class workers. (Of course, the only way to "place" the required number of TANF workers is to bump a few people out of their jobs.) TANF labor makes excellent workers because they are in real fear of losing a job, getting cut off from TANF, and subsequently having the state take "indefinite custody" of their children on the grounds of "failure to adequately provide." Total incomes remain at or below the poverty line, and this is all time-limited. Stress this: No work, no aid. Because TANF jobs are short-term and do not teach skills, this doesn't enable young workers to become competitively employed. What happens to these people after they've exhausted those meager TANF benefits is unknown. After they used the short lifetime limit on aid, that's all there is, regardless of circumstances. We are seeing just how "successful" Clinton's welfare "reform" is: In the US, extreme (i.e., life-threatening) poverty became very rare by the mid-1970s, and slowly rose with cyclical economic downturns from Reagan onward. Since Clinton enacted welfare reform, extreme poverty in the US actually doubled! THAT is pretty profound. Unsurprisingly, infant mortality rates among our poor have been rising while the life expectancy of America's poor has actually fallen below those of some Third World countries! These policies kill, and we call them "successful."
Wondering when Comcast is going to change the Title of "Morning Joe" to "Shut Up Mika"?
WHY is MSNBC preventing every viewer from TIVO-ing their favorite programs, by labelling the entire day as "Republican Convention"?? NO ONE WATCHES LIVE TV ANYMORE! WHERE'S MY RACHEL MADDOW SHOW ??I saw her show on, in another room, but knew i will watch the TIVO'd show later on---------but noooooooooooooooo, my TIVO could not record RMS because of "scheduling change".......no, it WAS on! I saw part of it! THE PROBLEM IS THAT MSNBC is now labelled as 24/7 "Convention" coverage.....This "great idea" will cause us all to miss out on an entire weeks' worth of shows, by preventing all TIVOing of shows?
why? PLEASE CORRECT THIS!!! BIG MISTAKE!!! Plz fwd this complaint to proper dept.
even when i scroll through the the tv guide,
i can not locate where to manually record TRMS show,
as the whole
entire
block
is labelled "Republican Convention" WHY? WHY DO THIS? We can not go an entire week without TIVO-ing TRMShow, come on.................
Thanks for the info about the Tampa bans on 6 ft. string of certain tensile strengths in the convention area. Does this apply to shoelaces? If someone walks into the convention with two 36 inch shoelaces, will their shoelaces be confiscated or will they be banned from wearing shoes? After all, their shoelaces could be tied together...
If my tired brain understands, my hunch is that the Tivo problem may be weather-related and made worse by humans. As far as I know, the original convention schedule included events all day long Monday--the convention's first day. That's probably what appeared onscreen in the Tivo schedule (also known as their electronic programming guide or EPG). Because of Tropical Storm Isaac, the convention schedule was changed over the weekend. Instead of being all day long, Monday's convention events consisted of only a very brief session, so regular programs like Rachel Maddow's were shown at their regular times.
Tivo puts together its own patented EPG based on information from networks and any other company that provides TV programs. Somewhere in this chain, somebody blew it. It may have been Tivo, it may have been MSNBC, or it may have been caused by them both not updating the EPG over the weekend. I don't know.
Clearly, there should be a way for the EPG to show the normal schedule even when a live event appears in the schedule. Live events may start late and/or end early or may not happen at all. Things like this happen all the time when baseball games are rained out. Of course, there's no way to accurately predict weather-caused schedule changes days or weeks in advance when you schedule your Tivo to record. Still, the networks, including MSNTV, and Tivo should have a better way to deal with this common problem by now.
A little bit off topic, but will this show be the only one for this week? Just wondering because these side line circus events seem to preempt our "regular programming".
