Republicans in Florida set out to make registering voters harder for this election. The new rules took effect last year, and the results are clear. Republicans are still reaching and registering new voters, if not quite as many. Democrats, as you can see on the chart above, are scarcely registering new voters at all.
In May, a federal court blocked enforcement of the law. The Florida Times-Union reports that June and July posted the highest numbers of new voters all year.

It took my 18-year-old daughter (actually her father and me) three attempts to "correctly" fill out a voter registration form in Florida to finally get registered AS A DEMOCRAT. The information requested by the form is unclear and I wonder if the supervisor of elections gave the Republican new voters a similar hard time.
And even if you're trying to register democrat, if it's a republican registering you, they may change your information. I tried to register democrat a number of years back, and when I got my voter info. in the mail, I was registered republican! It took months to get that straightened out! I still get crap from them periodically!
These people will literally do anything to get their way: Lie, cheat and steal. They fully believe the end justifies the means, and any means are acceptable in pursuit of your own way.
I find it interesting there are so many republicans on this thread calling democrats stupid, etc.
You're all so angry! If you think you're winning, what are you still so upset about?
When policy fails.
Most posting here, myself included, were not around the first time this country tried to legislate moral issues. Not only did prohibition not work, it became the rallying call for organized crime in this country. Abortion, same sex marriage are not issues that should be voted on by the people. If your church does not want to allow gay marriage so be it but your church, your Bible do not have the right to tell others what they can or cannot do with their love life or their bodies. Ammendments to our constitution concerning the definition of marriage and personhood denegrate the constitution denying rights to others because of what your religion says is wrong. What ever happened to the seperation of the church and state?
Other countries have had revolutions because of suppression like this. Is this what the Repugs really want?
I wish The MADDOW Blog or show, would do a segment on the youth vote. I and others like myself would like to know at long last if the youth vote really makes for a difference or not? Do youth votes helps a candidate for president or not? I would like to proven wrong but I think courting a group of people who don't ever vote in any "rea"l numbers is a total waste of time. Am I wrong? Anyone? Is the youth vote (really) important or not?
"Youth" gets little of the information sent in their direction. Most of what they learn does not come from the teacher at the head of the class. What does come from the teacher at the head of the class is the discipline to sit still and ask no questions.
Imagine after a dozen years of that, you want "Youth" to use their heads and ask questions. They have lot of trouble asking questions since they had not done so. The advantage goes to the "adults" who don't have the answers, and are getting by because they discourage "Youth" from asking. "Youth" grows old, without asking questions or getting answers.
Just incase you were wondeing how we make so little progress, it because we throw away "Youth".
The way out is to ask questions, and more questions and seek those who have answers.
We're not educating or including our youth.
Their vote would be important if they were educated and engaged, but we are working to ensure they're not.
If this law takes effect in 13 states, it needs to take effect in FIFTY states. Period. This either has to be across the board, or their little racist ploy must be stopped. That's all.
Then why doesn't the democrats just stop the republicans ploy> If dems know the pukes are cheating then why don't democrats do something about it?
All I can say is that it's up the the middle class and poor to VOTE...Democrats out number repugs in voter registration and need to VOTE....If you don't....and the rich win...you have no one to blame than yourselves...Saw a post yesterday about food stamp users that I found quite interesting...WHITES out number the blacks by a 2 to 1 ratio of food stamp usage...So when you see a black woman using her food stamp card...remember....that 2 more whites are using theirs also...So to call the President the food stamp president should be helping sway this election toward him since it's mostly WHITES using the program...
I am not versed on how this runs, but why has the Supreme Court now simply thrown down a judgement saying "ALL NEW VOTING LAWS IN ANY STATE ARE FROZEN UNTIL JANUARY 2013 WHEN THEY CAN BE REVIEWED"?
I've been wondering that myself! Are these federal laws, or state laws?
Is this like states deciding to legalize cannabis despite federal laws? They can just decide to do it, and damn the potential consequences? Can't the feds still step in and say FU, we're shutting this whole thing down?
Seriously, anyone out there please educate me? What I'm finding online isn't clarifying things for me.
Logically (to me), it looks like the feds ought to be able to stop voter suppression, given that voting is a right, and not a privilege. If this is the case, why aren't they?
They have "Original Jurisdiction," that means they can take-over any case they so desire. Remember, there are four liberals, four conservatives, and one swing voter to break a tie in the SC. To make it smiple, 4 with Obama, 4 for Mitty. Now Kennedy, the swing voter pissed the GOP off by siding with Obamacare but he usually sides with the GOP, so 5 to 4 they will not emplement original jurisdiction. The 9 and 10 amendments state the authority belongs to the state. 12 years ago the SC was wrong ruling for Bush, they should have sent it back to Florida to count the under-votes. The fix was in then too.
Thanks, Ned. I appreciate the information, but it's a little frustrating.
"NUTS"
Soon to be a Floridian. Hope to get to vote - Independent. But with all the voter suppression, I wonder. Since Republicans are making it harder for non-Republicans to vote. What's next? This could be a serious threat to all. If they got away with this, what will they add next? This seems more like an approach to Dictatorship. Somehow the laws they enacted for voter suppression need repealing to preserve our freedom.
I attended the Impact Film Festival 2012 RNC (Tampa, FL) showing of ELECTORAL DSYFUNTION starring Mo Rocca and at the panel discussion held after the viewing I voiced my concern with the voter supppression, and in particular the voter registration suppression aspect based on this chart that Rachel presented last night, and how even the League of Women Voters declined to register people in Florida due to the restrictions and penalties that were imposed. I didn't catch the name of the suited Republican who gave a response that it isn't so out of place for there to be a dropoff in one party or the other's in voter registration...when I pointed out the difference in the number for Democrats from 2008 to 2012, all he did was shrugged his shoulders.
Deedee (the Republican side in the movie) stated once again during the discussion that she didn't care how many people were prevented from voting as long as it prevents voter fraud. Frightening, very, very, frightening.
GOP = PARTY OF CORRUPTION AND ELECTION THEFT.
Please check out these Stats for Fl Dem voters.http://election.dos.state.fl.us/nvra/affiliation.asp … Very different from graph.
The facts on the official Florida election webpage show a whole different picture.
Based on fact checkers' analysis, Mormon Bishop Romney lied when he stated that Obama took money out of Medicare and transferred the monies to fund Obamacare.
Voters, would you vote for a Bishop, no matter what his religion is. who lies and have him be the President of the U.S.A.?
Viewers, if you were impressed or so touched by Mormon Bishop Romney's speech last night, ask who wrote the speech. Was it Romney or a hired professional speechwriter as is usually the case. If it was written by a hired professional speechwriter, you might have seen Romney's shadow but was it really him?
The Republicans declared that this election would be a referendum on Obama.
The Democrats position: this election would be a choice between Obama and Romney.
The Republicans are now saying this election is re choice between the two candidates.
Since likeability is such a strong issue with Romney, Obama wins!
Democrats and Independents and Libertarians, be inspired and confirm/reaffirm/seal it.
Get out and vote for Obama.
They claim that W stole the election from G. and became President through the
"anointing" of the Supreme Court.
If Romney's victory gets attributed to the Voters ID Law, he will be the 2nd Republican President who will occupy the Office similar to the way W got there.
It won't be long when no Republicans can be proud to be called as one.
Who would want to belong to a Party of Cheaters?
If I were an entrepreneur or an owner of a small or medium business, I wouldn't vote for Romney. If he wins, corporate lobbyists will dominate the lobby (har!har!)
My sense is that the only time that Romney would meet with you small business people is when he needs to find out whose business is in trouble so he and his associates who are behind the scenes can buy your business Bain Capital style.
Romney will run the White House and this country like a business (man) because that is who he is and that is what he is.
Bear in mind, business is always about profit, not people.
Would he sell the U.S. to the Arabs or to the Chinese?
Don't be surprised if someday the Arabs or the Chinese ask for your birth certificate.
I voted in Florida as a Democrat in the governatorial election. When I pressed the button of the voting machine to confirm, Jeb Bush name appeared. I reset the button again and the correction was made.
Double check to make sure those voting machines do the right thing.
Obama should really field independent technicians(?) to make sure that those voting machines are working properly. Otherwise not only will we have those suppressive Voter ID Laws, worse, even without those Voter ID Laws, those voting machines will make us lose this election.

Thanks for this info.
I am new to blogging. And I don't know how to navigate much.
Do you know Rachel Maddow's, Martin Bashir's, Chris Mathew's and Lawrence O'Donnell"s Alex Wagner's email address at msnbc?
Thanks.
If this alleged cheating in election by the REpublicans happen often enough there could come a time when CP ( the Conservative Party) would also stand for Cheaters' Party.
Can you imagine if, on a campaign, you meet and introduce yourself as a Republican to a would be voter and that person replies, "Oh, you belong to the Cheaters' Party!"!.
If the Republicans hear or read and publish this enough, they'll realize they still have a sense of shame and they, perhaps, might just change their political affiliation.
I am a retired senior citizen. I don't need much (yet) so I cast my vote for the common good.
I will not want to vote for any candidate, Democrat or Republican, who wants to cut taxes eternally but chooses small government as an agenda. Small government could mean a reduction and shorter time to collect unemployment benefits; harder to qualify for food stamps or housing. These are hard times.
Keeping that in mind, Voters, ask yourself : If you remain unemployed for quite some time, with a small government, who do you turn to? Will Romney and Ryan be there for you? Will Obama-Biden be there for you?
With the kind of politics were in, think hard who to vote for.
I will not vote for any politician who does not give specifics which, to be fair, I will not confuse as a promise. In exchange for my vote, I want my candidate to tell me something that I can hold him accountable for so I have something to base my decision whether I will vote for him or not the next time he runs for re election.
If you vote for a candidate who does not offer specifics and your situation becomes miserable, you can protest til you drop dead; the response that you deserve is a song from your candidate who got elected :" I NEVER PROMISED YOU A ROSE GARDEN."
Don't you think, it's about time to ask not what you can/would do for these candidates but what these candidates can/would do for you.
