they profess to be good christians but they will lie and cheat to win an election....
Let's understand. Mormonism and Christianity are not the same. Mormons believe that God, Jesus, and Satan are brothers. They do NOT believe that Jesus saves us nor do they even believe that Jesus rose from the dead. The far right cannot make him and this religion into something it isn't.
I believe the only reason the Romney team decided to put forward his religious background, and I don't buy for a moment that it was he who "insisted" they talk about it, is to appease the predominant feeling that Mitt Romney's entire life is shrouded in secrecy. They "threw us a bone" so they can show how "open" he is about his personal affairs. I'm not buying it.
You got it!!
What a great speech!!! Romney/Ryan 2012
Maddow, msnbc, and all you radical libs can suck it! Your the reason this country is in the hole and the best you can do is blame Bush! Do The job you promised 4 years ago....thats if you get a second chance.
I don't know where you got your info. But, I need to share some facts about Mormonism. I was raised and baptized Mormon and was active until age 14. And the facts are: Mormons DO believe that Jesus Christ saves and that he rose from the dead. The difference between them and other Mormons is that they have a book of Mormon, which is a history that tells of Jesus' visit to the Americas during the 3 days before he rose from the dead. Mormons (AKA LDS AKA Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) believe God is the Father, Jesus is the son and Satan is Jesus' brother.
Please don't confuse his religion with Fundamentalists or Polygamists. That's another story. In short, his faith is irrelevant to this campaign.
His ideas, his past business dealings, his plans (what little we can gather) scare the heck out of me. My impression is that he is all about $. He got out of college and went to work making $$$. Obama graduated, turned down offers of $$$ and went to work for the community, doing things to help the common people. Romney wants to privatize everything, cut back any programs that assist the elderly, poor, unable, and do whats best for the 1%. And Ryan, whew! A piece of work there; back to the dark ages for women. This rant about Romney is just my opinion. :)
If I hear any more talk tonight about The American Dream and working
one's way up out of poverty, I'll scream. If anyone on that stage was successful,
they became successful because of a social safety net and public education
and tax breaks for home ownership, and on and on and on. The Romney/Ryan
plan obliterates the very programs that have allowed Americans to work their way
up and realize their American Dream. The hypocrisy is overwhelming.
Exactly, I had to turn it off.
With Bain Romney sucked unions in, to allow him to buy in. We see how that worked out. I don't want the Bain Presidency, where Mitt Romney leverage the U.S. and sell it to foreign investors or a group of foreign investors and if his tactics in this election are like those negotiations that is where we are going. I don't know how to speak Chinese.
I tried to watch, but all of the bs & hypocrisy makes me nauseous.I keep trying to switch back to see if Rachel & the panel are doing commentary. I really can't take it. God I hope that the DNC can refute all of the lies the RNC is putting out there. God help us all if these clowns ever win....
Me too. I just check in to see the commentary. Luckily, my 2 alma maters
are facing off on the football field tonight. Great distraction.
What you have to understand is we can't have another 4 years...and without small businesses..there wouldn't be taxes to support the govt programs...where do you think the money comes from?
You do realize more small businesses have been created under Obama than under President Bush, yes?
Be afraid. Be very afraid. I have been in denial. But, I think these drones believe this republican brainwash. That is scary. But... people don't research or listen to both sides. They, just "Get the pizza, put it in the box." They have never had an independent thought.
And don't pimp Motown for your background music. Romney likes the classics. James Brown and the Temptations are probably turning over.
S. Schmidt saying Reagan will be remembered as 1 of the 2 great presidents of the 20th century?? I admire the restraint to keep from screaming BULL@!$%# repeatedly!
Unfortunate as it is to say, he is one of the few mostly honest Republicans.
That idea has been discussed and Reagan didn't make the cut.
Funny...under Regan, the top income tax rate was 50% and dropped to 38.5% during his last year. Can you hear the screams if we returned to those rates now?
Yes since Reagan had an economic recovery and Obama hasn't
How can he Smitty61, when the congress blocked everything he tried to implement. Who would be against building/fixing roads and bridges? The Republicans banned together and said, LET'S MAKE HIM A 1 X PRESIDENT. Vote NO on everything he tries to do. So hear we are and you believe the lies. Please WAKE-UP.
Watching Newt and Callista feels eerily reminiscent of the Academy Awards. I guess that maybe appropriate since Reagan was better at acting than at governing.
Haha...I thought the same thing.
I think Dude is just showing his off his troph-ho... uh tramphy, A trophy with moving parts. Except the hair. Maybe the GOBs will give Newt "M Congeniality"
Does no one remember the S & L crisis? $2Trillion in '80's dollars resulting from de-regulation of the industry. Sound familiar?
Also union busting of air traffic controllers.
Also elimination or reduction of social security benefits for those receiving a public pension. He was concerned about "double-dipping." Except his own, of course.
YES I do. Of the trillions spent by this administration, it all went back into the system. None of it went into Obama's pocket. In Romney Hood land, the system is their pockets.
Who will benefit, financially from being elected? Follow the money.
Wasn't there legislation from the republicans regarding "english only"? I'll bet the heads are exploding now.
How could Mitt Romney's father run for president if, as Mitt's son just said, he was an immigrant to the U.S.? This is the most Orwellian set of speeches ever rendered.
According to wikipedia:
During the campaign, Romney was generally considered a viable and legal candidate for United States president. He departed the race before the matter could be more definitively resolved,[3] although the preponderance of opinion since then has been that he was eligible.[6]
Of course - that was then. This is now.
Thank you maphi. I just think the whole thing goes with the flow of this convention. Say what you want, damn the fact-checkers.
Is Jeb Bush talking at the RNC Convention or the DNC Convention?
Noted. Bless his heart.
Did the trade towers not get hit under "W's" watch?
Yes, because Dubya and the GOP at large claimed that Clinton's focus on Al Qaeda was wasteful and foolish, and they took their eye off the ball.
The trick is getting the GOP to acknowledge that Dubya existed or was in power for 8 years.
Exactly, thank you.
Hard to believe Jeb can criticize Obama for not taking responsibility for problems in the country. I am sure everyone remembers how quick W always ways to take responsibility.
So, the RNC wants all teachers to get a pay raise. Put it in the platform!
What a great speech by Jeb, and I agree with Chris Mathews. Ed is getting paid by Unions to talk like that. Pretty Sad...Ed sold his sole to $$$$$$
@Steve Re: #13
What you just said is wrong.
You are wrong, Ed is an honorable man trying to save middle class America.
Jeb lies too, did you see the Today Show. He had the nerve to say Ryan was honest in his speech. Ryan's speech was filled with lies.

I need a reminder: who's that young guy on the panel who just made THE key point about equality of educational opportunity, in what was just a rapid-fire and fascinating conversation!
I think it was Chris Hayes.
I only watched a tiny bit, cuz I just end up yelling at the TV and scaring the cat.
Get rid of the Trash that some of the Teachers are in this country. It is killing this country. There are some excellent young teachers coming through college with excellent skills that never get a chance. You get rid of the trash and you could easily add pay.
@Steve Re: #16
You are spewing trash and pure nonsense!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You do realize that tenure does not prevent a teacher from being fired for performance, yes? I do not understand where this meme got started. Teachers are evaluated every single year. Has it just been that the older citizens of our country have been so far removed from the class room that they don't remember what school was like? When you are tenured it doesn't mean you can't be fired for bad performance. It means you aren't going to be evaluated every single year because you proved during your probation period that you are a good teacher. Teachers with bad performances don't get tenure. The only way that a teacher would get tenure if they had bad performance reviews would be if a school district were that desperate for teachers. And if they're that desperate for teachers then changing union contracts, tenure, and lowering salary is the opposite of what you'd need to do to attract better talent.
@Maphi
I can't stand this. Do these people just sit back and nod their heads like sheep to everything being said to them? Where is the analysis? Where is the critical thought? No wonder why so many are complaining about Maddow and the panel giving commentary on the convention- they don't want to hear any thought! They just want to see the convention and then believe whatever Republicans are saying. This is nuts.
What happened to separation of church and state? We are electing a President not a religious leader!!!
Yes, I agree,
I am not interested in Romney's religion. Politics and religion should be kept separate. It is my belief that most people believe that Romney is a liar. Please read the blogs this is what people are saying. Romney is using religion in effort to erase that image so that more people will like and trust him. Sorry, it is not going to work. People know that there are hypocrites in the church. Romney is just that a hypocrite and told one to many lies.
If you haven't figured it out the new GOP is all about being elected not to save the middle class, but to save our souls! They are insane with their religious agenda. Think about all the bills that have been proposed...think about the lack of fiscal responsibility they have practiced. I am a recovering Grand Old Party member...
When you speak with the GOP you are speaking to either the Tea Pots or the Right Religious Cult. I prefer to be an Independent. I want fiscally conservative and socially liberal policies!
Have you read the GOP platform's "separation plank"?
You know, the BTK killer was in the higher echelon of the church. And all the while Binding, Torturing and Killing women....
The church is a good place to hide the real dirty stuff.
Paying teachers more will not fix the problem.
I say this not because I don't think teachers should get paid more - I think they should get paid way way more.
The way to fix our educational system is to carefully look at all the factors that affect student performance.
A teacher can only teach a student if the student shows up in the classroom [attendance] rested, fed and prepared [parents or guardians making sure homework is done and the child is properly cared for].
A teacher can only teach a student if the student lives in a secure community that shelters the student from crime and abuse [community]
A teacher can only teach a class if there are firm rules of conduct that are established and enforced [school administrators] so there is a safe secure learning environment.
A teacher can only teach a class if the school building and resources are adequate [local, state, federal funding].
A teacher can only teach if the teacher has the proper training, and support and collaboration between teachers to maximize the strengths of the individual teachers.
The only thing that teacher pay affects is the last one - which could keep highly qualified teachers on the job.
You are so right! A teacher cannot teach a student who is hungry. Education involves the teacher, the parent, the community and the child. Education begins in the home when a child is just one or two years old.
Exactly why you keep government out of it.
@Steve Re: #19.2
Wrong again.
The community, and sadly in a lot of cases their families, are not serving these children well. There's no one else to do it BUT the government. Children are going hungry, not because of government interference, but because the community at large doesn't give two sh!ts in a hurricane unless those kids are theirs. These are the facts on the ground; denying them in favor of some bullsh!t "capitalism knows best" hypothesis with zero grouding is both ignorant and stupid.
Having grown up in Utah, the Mormons are scary. Just very, very scary.
Yes, because they lie too much.
Maybe Scott Brown is looking for Royalty at the convention.
Was CT slurring and a little out of sorts?.....whew, I can certaintly understand why....he must be in the freaking twilight zone.
Having grown up in Utah, the mormans are scary. Very, very scary. Please be ware.

Oooooooh boy. You believe the Blogs. LMFAO. What a loser you are.
In Mormonspeak it's called lying for the lord. Interesting concept though...
Apparently you are the looser. Romney's mouth is all lies.
You must not have as good a family life as the Romneys. That is sad.
Your right, mines is more honorable. I am a true Catholic and not a hypocrite.
I think the Rolling Stones article that just came out about Mitt and Bain should be required reading for everyone that is thinking of voting. It really explains how the company worked.
Now that you've seen it, the choice is clear. Mitt Romney is going to "SHOW US THE MONEY" and Barack Obama will give us "FOODSTAMPS" Let's give him a try.
I love the fact that you can't give any verifiable evidence to what's good about Mitt Romney other than to say "gamble on this guy!" I guess when you can't pay attention to facts and you don't have a platform to run on the only option is to just bet on whomever is going to win....because betting totally didn't start this problem in the first damn place.
Mitt won't even show us his tax returns; he sure as hell isn't going to show us any money.
