Republicans came to the realization a while ago that they have a Medicare problem. The party voted, en masse, to phase out the entire Medicare system and replace it with a wildly unpopular voucher scheme. The problem became more acute when Paul Ryan, the architect of the plan to end Medicare, joined the national ticket.
So, GOP officials tried to turn their weakness around, attacking Democrats for approving Medicare savings and strengthening the Medicare system's finances. It doesn't matter if it's nonsensical -- the point is, Republicans could credibly say Dems "cut" Medicare.
But there's a twist: Republicans, including Paul Ryan, embraced the same Medicare savings in their own budget plan, leaving the entire party in the awkward position of supporting and opposing the same policy at the same time. It's even one of the driving messages of Mitt Romney's entire presidential campaign.
How do Republicans defend their incoherence? They don't (via Sahil Kapur).
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is promoting the Romney-Ryan ticket as a team offering a credible, detailed plan for turning the country around. But some of those details proved troublesome in a sit-down interview with Fortune on Thursday. [...]
Asked about the inconsistency of Ryan attacking cuts his own plan embraced, Cantor begged off. "The assumption was that, um, the, the, ah, again -- I probably can't speak to that in an exact way so I better just not," he said.
I've followed Cantor's career fairly closely for many years, and that may be the single greatest thing he's ever said in public.
The Romney-Ryan ticket is telling a hypocritical, self-defeating lie, and Cantor knows it. Asked to defend it, Cantor, thankfully, couldn't think of a better lie to rationalize the other lie, so he stammered and gave up.

You know for a guy who lies as much as Cantor does. And is just the most arrogant and self righteous prick in Congress to boot. For him to not be able to justify a lie. Is priceless. The man usually has a lie ready for any occasion. But this time it just seemed so fitting that after Ryan has been called out for lying during his speech, by EVERYONE including Fox News. Cantor just could not cosign or even talk his way out of not actually answering the question. Priceless indeed. Now VA just needs to vote his butt out of office. Because he has literally done nothing of any real substance since he been there. VA doesn't pay him a 150+k a year. To keep and eye on The Speaker of The House.
The problem is that he's dumb. Even a party known for dumb, that exalts dumb, that, indeed, considers dumbness so important that it is no longer willing to tolerate even fake dumbness in its leadership and, instead, requires real, actual, demonstrable, thick as a brick stupidity, Cantor is outstandingly dumb. He's not so dumb that he can't memorize lies prepared in advance and spew them out when trigger words are spoken, but, when confronted by a question he doesn't have a prepackaged and focus-grouped lie prepared for, but he can't ad-lib them. Because he's that dumb.
Eric works every day as hard as he can to dispel the ancient anti-Semitic slur that all Jews are really smart.
This is great news for us junkies, seeing Cantor squirm is priceless. But I'm afraid that we will lose the Medicare message wars because of a combination of dishonesty and the fact that Americans largely don't understand what the Republicans are up to. Combine that with the purposeful confusion and lack of detail and you have a recipe for a stew of ignorance. Some alleged "media" are compliant, and won't report on the obvious con game...
Talk about preaching what you practice...
Obama - One & Done ! Yes, he tried - and failed!
If you don't have anything to say, please don't say it.
Could you please name some of the things he tried and failed?
And what do you suggest to be the correct idea.
Obama has been blocked by an obstructioist GOP in the Congress, in case you missed it on Fox News.
And that obstruction was led ironically by this guy. Cantor and McConnell has done everything to halt anything the President tried to do. Short of drive a cement truck through the oval office. And build a wall around the White House. Of course they would have used non union labor, probably undocumented workers. That once done with the wall, would have been deported back to their countries. Without getting paid. Because it's the Republican thing to do.

See what happens when you outsource your trolls.
The year is 2058 and historians have turned to the big screen to show ...Election 2012!
Critics acclaim it as the greatest comedy of errors ever dreamed up and Ripley's Museum is blushing from the popularity of the phrase "believe it or not".
Women, young African Americans , Homosexual couples and non-Evangelists say "We are not amused" yet laugh at the antics of the now famous right winged lunacy party.
In the end it is very very sobering reminder of how the enemy within is always the biggest threat and that we must still remain ever vigilant.Propaganda AKA lies, lies and more lies is still a weapon of mass destruction as Hitler showed us long ago and people can be cowed into becoming tools and fools of those who have power.
How dumbed down we have become as country that people like Cantor, Boehner, Ryan, et.al are lauded as "thinking people, intellectuals even". All the GOTP has are lies, distortions and changing the subject. I actually applaud Cantor for just opting out of saying anything else to compound the lies! Frankly, there were enough lies told during their convention.
These people gave no vision for the future of this nation, they simply said "we're not the black guy" so we deserve a chance! I really am tired of these selfish, arrogant, entitled, unpatriotic, schmucks that almost took this nation down to simply feel that they need not say a word, because the fear induced fright of white people will have them vote for them is appalling and a disservice to every American whose rights are being stolen out from under US with every vote for a GOTP traitor!
Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with everything that this President has done, and I think he's been far too willing to compromise in the face of bullying by the right, but I would rather have an intelligent, articulate, vision oriented, people oriented, long term oriented President Obama - than the traitorous and treacherous GOTP crowd whose passion for power has totally corrupted them against WE the PEOPLE!
Everybody Knows that Republicans are the party of Fiscal Responsibility, a Strong Defense, and Teh Family!
Also, Obama is a weak, ineffectual president with no accomplishments, except for going on an Apology Tour!
So we have to ask: Mister President! Have you stopped beating your wife?
(for those lacking a sarcasm meter, the above is “snark”)
The lies are blatant and nonstop. Sure, any campaign spins the truth to make itself look good, but the current republican party has just outdone itself in this regard. Really, it's breathtaking. They practically say, "Oh, and by the way, we're lying." I mean, they tell us they won't be have their campaign dictated by fact checkers? They call their own presidential candidate someone who can be changed like an Etch A Sketch? When it comes to Ryan's "bold" budget, he turns around and says he hasn't "actually run the numbers"? They openly admit Romney has off shore accounts in the Caymans? Are 40% of the American People so completely gullible that they think this guy is good for America? Or, so racist, that they'll take a total corporate shill empty suit, who may or may not be a crook, over an African American who made his millions honestly?
You just might be on to something here. It's another "Legitimate"-Rape-Public-CON voter suppression tactic - they're trying to make liberal's heads explode before the election can happen, using the legendary liar's paradox:
Everything we say is a lie. Now, listen to this: we are lying.

What do you know? Chief KAPO Eric really Can't, or something....
Bottomline, lying works. When a lie is told enough times, those who hear it start to believe it, or start to think maybe they should be believing it because they hear it everywhere in perceived to be credible places. Sadly, the lies are being told in more places and more often because of unlimited money in campaign contributions that allows for it.
Your awesome, Steve! Keep up the great work.
Obama is going to destroy Romney on this topic in the debates. Ryan may do a better job against Biden, but Romney won't - at least not based on evidence to date. Why aren't they prepared to answer these kinds of questions? They had to know this would come up once they announced Paul Ryan as Romney's running mate. The Ryan Budget is kinda his claim to fame - and they're not prepared to answer any detailed questions about it??
Why isn't main stream media bringing up the 1/20/09 diner at the Caucus Room that both Ryan and Cantor attended, where the "Just Say No' plan was born.
Anybody want some good news? A federal judge just reinstated the early voting in Ohio. I think it just includes the three days before election day but it's a start.
