Executive producer, Bill Wolff, shares a preview of tonight's show:
Bill Wolff, executive producer for the Rachel Maddow Show, shares a preview of tonight's show. It's the eve of the Democratic National Convention and all eyes are on Charlotte, North Carolina. How will dems address labor unions while holding their big party in a Right To Work state? What does it mean that Mitt Romney completely failed to mention the war in Afghanistan during his RNC acceptance speech last week? And we've got an awesome Moment of Geek for ya! Don't miss it!

Instead of all the convention hype I am psyched for the debates. Conventions are just pageantry, debates are where the real issues are discussed. One debate that I think we should all have a chance to see is between Ann Romney and Michelle Obama. I am sure the First Lady has more influence over the president than the VP, it's time we had the first First Ladies debate! I have started a change.org petition toward this end. Please consider signing if you agree!

Moment of GEEK!!!! :)
It seems Mr. Romney (or as I like to call the dynamic duo Mitt Rob-me and Paul Lyin')
is taking time off to learn what to do at the debates. He was seen on his boat on Monday. Perhaps he sprained his personality trying to be more 'human' during the RNC and needs time to reboot.... whatever the reason, i just can't take this guy seriously if he needs time to 'prepare' to debate. this is off the cuff, seat of your pants coherent answering of questions posed by the people, not a predigested and regurgitated message crafted by some old white guys with lots of money? hey do you think he will pay someone to go debate for him?
I may know how you feel. My spell check is acting up as well. Where can I download your dictionary look up ? Mind just keep telling me Obama is misspelled !! That really pisses me off !!
Rachel, You failed to mention tonight that Obama did sign an Executive Order for the Dream Act after it was not passed by Congress. This is an important fact!
No he signed an executive order delegating that the various agencies under the command of the Executive Branch act in a way similar to what the law would've ordered had the Dream Act been passed. The President of the United States belongs to the Executive Branch which is the branch that delegates how to enforce laws as they are written. To that extent the Executive has some leeway in how immigration policy is enforced. What the current president did was to use that power to no longer enforce certain provisions (something he can constitutionally do). Sorry, but we don't want to pander to the Republican lie that the President of the United States passed a law (which would be unconstitutional). No law was passed. Enforcement and legislation are not the same thing. Republicans want this to be spun that he passed a law and thereby has broken the law and delegations of the US Constitution. It simply isn't true and we have to be careful how we word ourselves so that we don't fall into this trap.
So I was watching the segment with my 6 year old daughter.
She said "How come Mr. Romney is on the boat instead of creating jobs?"
God love her...!!!...........Out of the mouths of babes.......:-).....
Dear TRMS,
Just got home from my annual visit with my ninety-four year old Republican mom. She voted for Obama to end those darn wars. She is not happy with his results on that front. She does not blame him at all over the health care effort. She points out that most every other country on this planet is nicer on that subject. She says the GOP is a bunch of liars that will say anything to get elected. I am not comfortable having to agree with her on so many subjects.
Signed confused
Second thoughts:
Dear camera-person Lana,
Yes, your boss, Mr. Wolff is a pretty good guy, but please do not back off on keeping him on track. We are depending on you.
i.e. Lana = Doctor Watson ?? . . .maybe . . .just saying . . .
The correct question is "Are you better off than THREE years ago?" (not four years ago) Four years ago, Bush was president and the economy had just begun its severe slide. Three years ago, President Obama's first policies were just starting to take effect.
