We talked earlier about the violent protests that killed four Americans in Libya, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. Politically, Mitt Romney, relying on false information, called the Obama administration's response "disgraceful," and accused the administration of "sympathiz[ing] with those" who killed U.S. officials abroad.
It seems as if Romney has finally gone too far. NBC News' First Read called out "one of the most over-the-top and (it turns out) incorrect attacks of the general-election campaign," which looks "worse and worse" as more information comes to light.
This was news-cycle campaigning by the Romney campaign gone awry. Why didn't the Romney campaign wait until it had all the facts? On his overseas trip in the summer, Romney was so careful not to criticize Obama while on foreign soil. But how much time do you give an administration to work through a diplomatic and international crisis before trying to score immediate political points? You'd expect the Sarah Palins of the world to quickly pounce on something like this, and she predictably did. But a presidential nominee running for the highest office in the land?
After the facts have come out, last night's Romney statement only feeds the narrative that his campaign is desperate.
ABC News' Jake Tapper had a related report, noting the challenges facing the Obama administration in light of developments in Libya and Egypt, but also highlighting Romney's mistake.
GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney will likely face questions of his own today, not only about his foreign policy views (Romney had at least five different positions on Libya as of last October) but about his statesmanship.
Before news spread that four Americans had been killed in Benghazi, Romney yesterday issued a statement saying in part: "It's disgraceful that the Obama administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks."
This is an attack that does not stand up to simple chronology.
The Republican candidate was so eager to attack the president that he ended up lying while trying to exploit the deaths of four Americans abroad.
Romney was faced with an important leadership test last night. He failed spectacularly.

Always nice to see the right wingers show their version of patriotism, lie and exacerbate an already bad situation. It has been reported from one source that the film which caused the tragedy in Libya and the attack on the embassy in Egypt was sponsored by the minister in Florida who twice threatened to burn the Koran....If true,.In leaping to the "defense of free speech", has not Governor Romney shot himself in the foot by reacting so quickly without knowing he was getting out front in defending hate speech and a naked attempt to destabilize the region...

Netanyahu and Mitt Romney??...you only have to look at the CSPAN : Netanyahu"s testimony before Congress in 2003 where BEBE successfully manipulated and provided the final push for the planned IRAQ War. Additionally, Mitt Romney"s inappropriate and highly choreographed premature ejoculation, with American flags waving behind him this morning.... was a disgrace and a mockery of the murder of Ambassador Stevens, and wounding of America's relationship with Libya. One Were-Wolf growls at another, "I can urinate further than you can, cover more territory than you can, and claim more territory than you can! I can even lift my leg up higher than you can and for a longer period of time - grrrr!" And the urination rituals begin. The Missiles fly and in the end the blood-rabid Were-Wolves cower (bravely) underground to save themselves for a better day while within the Nations (the Were-Wolves swore to honor, nurture, sustain and protect) the People perish.
Were-Wolves - Man-Beasts, marching onward and Intentionally into the Sands of Oblivion! Hiding behind Masques of High Minded Political, Economic, Technological, Legal, Medical or Religious rhetoric, platitudes, excuses and symbols for Aggression and War. There are reasons for the ancient, multicultural archetypes of Were-Wolves. They have lessons to teach us All.
Were-Wolves, like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, reveal to Us the Individual and Social importance of Facing our Inner Demons (Our destructive Tasmanian Devils), not Hiding from them. But really Knowing them, Challenging them, Not Fearing or Hating them, Getting to Know their Strengths and Weaknesses, Transforming the parts of them that we can, Gaining Self Control of them, Making them Work for us (instead of against Us) and Others in Positive ways. Because if we can do it for Ourselves We can maintain that same Positive and Creative Equilibrium within Society, and that is what our Society will become.
Why do Human Beings continue playing these Primitive, Ritualistic, Regressive Games with all of these very expensive and deadly Toys?! Why can’t We Grow beyond them?! Why do we continue to need Were-Wolves?!

We better be paying attention to what we are hearing from Mitt. I am appalled every day now. The small government wing, which is allegedly Republican, is becoming the BIGGEST GOVERNMENT. Trying to make voting a privilege far beyond citizenship, creating laws that govern women's bodies, threatening the world with America's might. The government will become the bully and will eliminate many of the rights we have enjoyed and what makes us an exceptional country, inclusion. They label it freedom. I say freedom for who, because I do not see myself in the mix. It's an Ayn Rand mentality. Are we paying attention because they are.
