First up from the God Machine this week is a report on the Values Voter Summit, the nation's largest annual gathering for the religious right movement, which began yesterday in D.C. Despite the truly nutty organizers and guest list, the VVS welcomed a lengthy list of notable Republican speakers, including Paul Ryan and a video address from Mitt Romney.
Of particular interest, though, was a man who calls himself Kamal Saleem. His self-assigned title: "former terrorist."
He had all kinds of unique insights to share, but I found this one especially interesting. According to Saleem, whose real name is Khodor Shami, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is currently working with Islamic countries and the United Nations to "subjugate American people to be arrested and put to jail and their churches and synagogues shut down." All of this, he said, will happen early next year -- March, at the latest.
Values Voter Summit attendees, instead of turning to one another and asking, "What on earth is this strange man talking about?" actually cheered Saleem's bizarre conspiracy theories.
As Rachel noted on the show last night, this is the same right-wing activist who says President Obama is secretly praying Islamic prayers when it looks like he's pledging allegiance to the American flag; insists Americans will be "wearing rag heads" if immigration reform is approved; and argues that the Roe v. Wade precedent leads to "Sharia law."
Right Wing Watch added, "We have been covering the absurd, bizarre and paranoid rantings of phony ex-terrorist Kamal Saleem as he emerged on the Religious Right scene, and today he had his biggest platform yet at the Values Voter Summit, where he was preceded by Ohio congressman Jim Jordan and a video message by Mitt Romney."
Joining this fake former terrorist on the guest list is the Republican presidential nominee, the Republican vice presidential nominee, two sitting Republican governors, two sitting Republican U.S. senators, and six sitting Republican U.S. House members, including the House Majority Leader.
I hope I'm not the only one who finds this rather disconcerting.

* Sister Pat Farrell, president of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, joined a group of 102 other faith leaders this week urging Republican governors to drop their opposition to the Affordable Care Act and accept the law's Medicaid expansion. "Depriving struggling families of healthcare is wholly incompatible with the teachings of our faiths and the ideals of our nation," the statement reads.
* Though historically the divisions between Christians and Muslims in Kenya have been minimal, the "veneer of tolerance" has been "ripped open recently," with at least five churches, including the Christian Salvation Army in the poor Muslim district of Majengo, facing attacks this year (thanks to reader R.P. for the tip).
* And President Obama released a new video this week recognizing Rosh Hashnah and Yom Kippur.

Now they are having the government control our bodies. We all have a right to be here on earth no matter who we are, what we believe and how we choose. The far righters have their way of thinking and that's their choice, but they have been shoving their beliefs down our throats. We must fight for our rights!
The Evangelarnots are listening to much to the TV political/preachers who have decided to leave the spiritual World and join forces with this world. Their growth has been stumped and the door to heaven for them has been closed. Hopefully it's only temporarily, if they decide to stop playing God.

I enjoy the fact that rather than dispute the fact that there are different Catholic denominations, Irish just insults it. Curious because I, as a Roman Catholic, am pretty sure that Orthodox Greek Catholics are insane. And I am quite sure that as an Orthodox Irish Catholic you think Roman Catholics are a bunch of sissies. But no there is only 1 ideology that runs through the Church. Nevermind the fact that the Church has prided itself on the diversity of thought that delves within it. The Greek Orthodox Church is seperate from the ROMAN Catholic Church of which there is "One holy, catholic and apostolic church." You should have learned that in second grade class of CCD. Hey, what a great game yesterday for the Giants. Eli had a great 2nd half and ended up with over 500 yards passing. Exciting game. This Direct TV Sunday Ticket is awesome. Watching the games on my 55" Sony 3D HDTV was incredible. I found some entertainment in the Browns-Bengals game too. The Panthers Saints game was pretty good too. Maybe the highlight games were the Eagles comeback vs the Ravens and Eli's incredible lead to victory march in the second half of that game. After that, the only game I cared for for late games was the SD Chargers game. I am LOVING Direct TV Sunday Ticket.

A denomination is a difference in segments of the tenants of belief, but not the core subset that makes them part of the greater faith. Roman Catholics believe and worship vastly differently than Orthodox Greek Catholics. They are different denominations of the same core faith: Catholicism. By proving that they exist you prove my point that there are in fact different denominations. Nevermind that you've completely missed a point in your anger and hatred at anyone who doesn't immediately bow down to you. Stop worshiping yourself- you'll make Jesus mad. You present your "knowledge" of the Catholic faith as though you and only you a. speak for Catholics (which you do not) b. know the Catholic faith (which you clearly don't) and c. as though all Catholics believe the same (which they do not). There have been catechisms written throughout the history of the Roman Catholic Church. However, in 1994-95 for the first tiime since the Council of Trent the church came out with the "OFFICIAL" "Catechism of the Catholic Church" that under the direction of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, as commisioned by Pope John Paul II. THIS is the OFFICIAL Catechism.
As I said, I am certain my 10 year old is better suited to understand the "authentic teachings" of the church than YOU. You are too arrogant. Anyone who knows the relative nature of things in the church today knows that a serious discernment needs be applied when seeking out the "true catholic doctrine today" That confusion is ONE , only one of the reasons John Paul II commisioned the church to produce a new official catechism. Because of errors like YOURS. And believe me, having reviewed hundreds of potential catechisms during my years of teaching CCD there are numerous (too many to try and number) erroneous catechisms afloat today and has been for years! When THIS catechism came out, my son (college aged then) and I went to Assumption College in Worcester Ma to listen to John Cardinal O'Connor, Msgr Wren and about 6 others discuss the content, matter and rational behind the publication of this new catechism. Now, if you are not aware after nearly 20 years that the Roman Catholic Church produced a new OFFICIAL catechism, then that is your error. Not mine. Which might reasonably explain your lack of knowledge of the subject.
Get a copy, of THE Catechism of the Catholic Church and LEARN something. In section 830 you will begin to discover the ERROR of your understanding. Which is NOT my fault. It becomes more obvious with all this that there is no place in politics for religion. Governing must come from reason not "believes" or religious dogma. The various cults like Christianity and Islamic sects are far too self involved to be allowed a place at the table when political decisions are to be discussed and made.

This attack on Obama, the inflammatory video clip and the Islamic attacks on US and
other western offices seems to follow a typical Karl Rove/Koch brothers

with specific area of expertise in certain types of consistent social patterns.
