President Obama passed by the TRMS offices yesterday, close enough to call to but not quite close enough (or slow enough) to interview. Maybe it's not noteworthy given the concentration of national media within just a few blocks of Midtown Manhattan, but it still blows my mind that Maddow show producers and Rachel herself can literally look out their windows and see the president driving by.
Yesterday afternoon he was at the Ed Sullivan theater to tape an interview with David Letterman (which you'll recall is within walking distance from our offices) so Andy Dallos was able to get some shots of him coming and going.
A.Dallos
Or at least, we think it's him coming and going.
Andy and I have been debating whether the president is really in the presidential motorcade and whether there's any guessing which of the cars he's in. Andy thinks he's surely in one of the two limos (remember all the coverage of "the tank"?) but I'm a little more conspiratorial-minded, so I think he's rolling across town in a pedicab wearing a fake beard and a pith helmet.
A.Dallos
Uh... Mr. President?

I miss New York.
Meeeee too.
Pith helmet. Hee hee!
Me three! Sniff, sniff...
"Pith helmet" = priceless... :-)
When these so-called religious leaders talk their hogwash about LGBT people should not be allowed to marry that just confirms it more for me that I am right. Knowing about God, Jesus, and the light, there is no issue if a LGBT person wants to get married or not. That is a personal decision for each person, regardless of his or her sexual orientation and a person has that full right to choose what he or she wants. It is these so-called religious leaders that really do follow a falsehood and that Jesus accepted all people. Jesus said right out whom he disapproved of, since he indeed got rid of foolish and blind old ways. It is Jesus that gave us the beginnings of something new and better as our knowledge increased and not to follow narrow-minded men stuck in a false past. You are better off listening to what Jesus had to say in his statements than to listen to blind men. Jesus’ very statements are right in the Gospel of Thomas and can be found at earlychristianwritings.com.
The fact is, Republicans are not Christians... They are Paulists!
They rarely follow the words of Jesus in the Bible... They always cite the letters of the Apostle Paul...
PAUL ON HOMOSEXUALITY - Romans 1:26-27, 32
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
1 Timothy 1:10 (CEV)
The Law was written for people who are sexual perverts or who live as homosexuals or are kidnappers or liars or won't tell the truth in court.
In response to the president's appearance on Letterman's show, Ron Fox (yep, that one) posted, "This is a campaign ad."
It takes a lot of brass... The Fox Group is a running campaign ad for the super wealthy, self-serving mindset that feel money can buy anything and anyone...Romney's base.
HEY! Quit staring out the window, Benen, and get back to work! It has been six entire minutes since your last post.
Not something you'd see in Fresno, that's for sure. Lucky ducks!
Close enough to feel that tingle run up your leg?
Here's to 4 more years of photo ops with President Obama.
Since California is always all wrapped up democratic, we don't get visits from any of the good pols. All we get are $500,000 per plate repub fundraisers at super wealthy farmers homes.
I should add, on a positive note, we also don't get bombarded with campaign ads either.
Willard's 24/7 campaign ad on FOX "News" vs. The President's hour (not even an hour actually) on Letterman.
The Right still seems to have trouble with that arithmetic thing!!
A friend of mine claims to have been able to see the president in one of the limos as they passed by him in NYC.
There you are in the hub of the media, a city of 10 million, and you marvel that you can glimpse the President (maybe) once in a while. Meanwhile, here I am in Cow Hampshire, and I have had the chance to see him twice in the past few months, Michelle twice in the past few weeks, and Biden the day after tomorrow.
All politics is local.
Caught the Prez on Letterman. He looked so comfortable and confident, so...himself. Unlike some others - OK, one other.
Oh Calif. I feel your pain that the campaign will not stop there. However, yours is a bitter sweet pain. Try being a bleeding heart, Nazi, Socialist, Grandma killin' Commie Liberal in Texas! I win :(
I'd like to think that the guy in the limo is the ringer from Brooklyn who was such a hit in 2008.
