Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* The perception is that the Romney campaign has overflowing piles of cash, but the New York Times reports that the Republican campaign's finances "have been significantly less robust than recent headlines would suggest."
* Looking for cover on Medicare, the Romney campaign unveiled this new spot today featuring Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). For the record, Rubio is hardly an ideal defender -- he supports ending Medicare and replacing it with a voucher scheme, which the American mainstream strongly rejects.
* In Wisconsin, a Marquette University Law School poll shows President Obama with a commanding, 14-point lead over Mutt Romney, 54% to 40%. The same poll shows Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D) taking the lead in Wisconsin's U.S. Senate race, leading Tommy Thompson (R), 50% to 41%.
* A new Fox News poll shows Obama leading Romney in Ohio by seven, 49% to 42%. The same poll shows Sen. Sherrod Brown (D) leading Josh Mandell (R), 47% to 40%,
* Fox News also shows Obama leading Romney in Virginia by seven, 50% to 43%.
* In Florida, the Fox News poll shows Obama up by six over Romney, 49% to 43%. In the Senate race, incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D) leads Rep. Connie Mack IV (R), 49% to 35%.
* In Michigan, a CNN poll shows Obama up by eight, 52% to 44%, while a Detroit News survey gives Obama a 14-point lead in the state.
* In Virginia's closely-watched U.S. Senate race, three new polls show Tim Kaine (D) pulling ahead of George Allen (R). Fox News shows Kaine up by four, the Washington Post puts Kaine's lead at eight, and Quinnipiac/New York Times/CBS News has Kaine ahead by seven.
* And in Massachusetts, Sen. Scott Brown (R), who was reluctant to endorse Romney's presidential campaign yesterday, has seen several recent polls showing him trailing Elizabeth Warren, but a new poll by UMass Lowell and the Boston Herald shows him up by four, 49% to 45%.

Yes, "Mutt" Romney. Somewhere in there, there's a Seamus joke.
I saw that too.
I was going to ask Steve if it really was a mistake.
What is it Elizabeth Warren doing wrong?
nothing she is up by 5 on most polls.
given all the other recent Massachusetts polls, this one is an "outlier." However, the best road to victory is the one the two best politicians I ever knew - Jesse Unruh and Willie Brown - always followed: forget the polls and run like you're 10 points down till the results are announced.
ANY incumbent has a built in advantage. That said, Warren has been steadily gaining ground on Brown.
Like the NFL or MLB, as the play-off approach, more folks tune in.
If Massachusetts voters can't figure this one out, then the dangers to the republic are even more formidable than we thought.
The republican's beloved Rasmussen has Obama over Romney by 2% - Obama 47% - Romney45%, which is a 4% reversal. They also have Obama's approval rating at 51%.
OUCH!
Rubio's a Gusano who couldn't win a race for dog catcher in any state that didn't have Dade County in it.
While caution is needed, Romney still unemployed would be a most welcomed Christmas present.
Not to mention something to be thankful about on 22 November.
What Rubio didn't say in his sweet-talking, con-man ad:
Kaiser: Romney vow to repeal Obamacare will make Medicare insolvent by 2016
hear somewhere that Cantors is trailing as well in VA.
like to see how Ryan is doing for his real/other job?
lol be nice to see not only the candidate for President lose all of his home states, and the vp pick lose his home state.
over under
440 electoral vote for Team America and Obama
98 for obstruct/sabotage team Robmehood
Historically I would shudder at the thought of Cantor and Ryan losing because of who that might usher in . An interesting problem being that the cure may be far worse than the suffering fools who profit by being sick of America , and determined to punish her patriots .
So almost the only Republican in a tight Senate race who's polling ahead right now is Scott Brown, who's also the one who's tried the hardest to distance himself from the party's crazies (at least in terms of image and a couple of symbolic votes).
You think maybe voters aren't just rejecting Romney, but the whole right-wing ideological superstructure?
Naaah, must just be a coincidence.
Don't let this fool us, Come October, we're going to be inundated with PAC ads and the like so much so, we'll need to build dikes around our TV sets. They are waiting for pounce time, and it's coming soon.
Why, with all the other poll results you're posting Mr. Benen, don't you post the poll numbers for Ryan's seat in Congress?
On Gawker now:
Mitt Romney ‘Dyed His Face Brown’ to Appeal to Latino Voters
http://gawker.com/5944931/mitt-romney-dyed-his-face-brown-to-appeal-to-latino-voters?post=52834397
Is Mitt Romney wearing "brown face"? His face is noticeably browner than in other media appearances. Was he trying to appeal to Latino voters by darkening his skin???
Imagine a reality survival show where Mitt and Ann had to survive on SSI and food stamps. live in public housing, use public transportation and shop at Walmart for 3 months. Ann would do worse than Lisa Douglas on "Green Acres". Imagine Mitt flipping burgers at BK?
Great idea and here is a title for your show---"There Goes the Hood!"
The campaign contributions have slowed because the donors are going to begin to hedge their bets with the Dems. That is how the game is played. The rich and influential have gamed the system. Either way they win because some Dems are not working for the base. Unless Romney hits a home run in the debates, he will find his campaign contributions down to a trickle and that will force him to use his available cash on hand. But the PAC's will move money to the congressional races. And that is when the DNCC needs to brace itself for an onslaught of negative ads. It would be helpful if the DNCC starts putting out ads on a national basis and the local races they have a chance to win. National ads can increase the Dems prospects for upsets in the elections and make some Republican races less than a sure thing.
You guys might want to check this out and assess it's accuracy but it appears that Mitt may have gone John Boehner for his appearance before Latinos recently - I presume so that he could "fit in" better.

Maybe he wasn't joking during his 47% video ...
If that's the case, this is as weird to me as the Mormons baptizing Obama's mother. Maybe this man has some serious mental issues to do something like that. I don't know for sure but my head will spin with amazement if this is for real.
Beat ya to it. ;)
Romney believes that "corporations are people." That makes me wonder how he feels about corporations that pay zero federal income tax. Especially those that receive welfare (tax subsidies and other forms of largesse). Does he perceive them to be lazy, and looking for handouts? Does he view them as not taking responsibility for themselves?
From YouGov polling
Obama is tied with Romney in North Carolina, 46% Obama to 46% Romney, in a poll of 1,161 voters statewide.
A tossup in North Carolina?
"ain't that a wonderment"

As others have pointed out, there's a typo you probably want to fix. You've referred to Mitt Romney as "Mutt" Romney.
Redistribution of WEALTH; ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
For the past 30 years. According to CNN, Money, (Annalyn Censky, staff reporter @CNNMoney February 16, 2011) “Incomes for 90% of Americans have been stuck in neutral, and it's not just because of the Great Recession. Middle-class incomes have been stagnant for at least a generation, while the wealthiest tier has surged ahead at lighting speed.
In 1988, the income of an average American taxpayer was $33,400, adjusted for inflation. Fast forward 20 years, and not much had changed: The average income was still just $33,000 in 2008, according to IRS data.
Meanwhile, the richest 1% of Americans -- those making $380,000 or more -- have seen their incomes grow 33% over the last 20 years, leaving average Americans in the dust.”
Mitt Romney’s “REDISTRIBUTION” argument is not going to stick, because the American Middle Class are living the truth. I remember being told in my 20’s when the first IRA Products were being roledl-out out that this was going to be my ticket to wealth and prosperity when I retired. That Social Security was going to be broke and I needed to invest in an IRA. Well I did, and twice in the late 1990’s with the collapse of the NASDAQ and during the Great Recession, I lost most of the value in my IRA. I has been “virtually flat” for 30 years. My home which is my biggest investment, I bought “at a high” in the late 1980’s, it lost it’s value almost immediately in the recession of the early 1990’s and then after 20 years finally tripled in price in Southern California, only to lose 2/3 of it values in the Great Recession. My story is NOT EVEN CLOSE to being “UNIQUE”, and that is why Mitt Romney’s version of REDISTRIBUTION will not work.
We have seen American companies send American Middle Class jobs to China, Indian and other emerging markets in order to undercut salaries and environmental regulation in the United States. We have seen those PATRIOTS in Corporate American “CANNIBALIZE” the United States Economy and the American Middle Class by “EXTRACTING” our wealth to line their pockets. We have lived the decisions WALL STREET made to “STEAL” our home equity. No Mr. Romney “that dog won’t hunt”.
We have seen those “HONEST” and “BRILLIANT” CEO’s from ENRON, Global Crossing, MCI WORLDCOM, Tyco, Arthur Anderson, Lehman Bros., and Bernie Madoff, embezzle our investments and IRA’s. Mr. Romney himself ran a company that forced Companies into foreclosure and then made the American Tax Payer pick up the tab for the Government Guaranteed Pensions, as required per the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. Romney then pocketed that money for himself and his investors and shafted the American Tax Payer.
The American Middle Class has been screwed and we are not that stupid to fall for Mitt Romney’s team of buffoons and the GARBAGE that they are trying to FOIST upon us. Hey Mitt I know you have contempt for us, but we are not that stupid and our memories not that short…..we know who did this too us, and it was “NOT” President Obama it was you and your “ONE PERCENT” Cronies. No more LIES Buddy! We got your ticket, you morally bankrupt, freakin LIAR!
My fellow Middle Class Americans, these “JOB CREATORS and BARON’S of INDUSTRY” the 1%, they don’t’ want to pay taxes anymore. They don’t want to pay their fair share. But they certainly want to use the INRASTRUCTURE to make their fortunes don’t they? They have no problem waltzing into O’Hare, LAX, La Guardia or SFO; they have no problem hopping on the Amtrak or crossing the Golden Gate, turning on their tap and watering those beautiful manicured lawns in La Jolla with water from the Hoover Dam; they have not problem getting in their Cadillac’s and driving on the 5 freeway in Northern San Diego County. Who do they want to pay for the INFRASTRUCTURE the Middle Class and the Poor, only they pay taxes, right LEONA HELMSLY-ROMNEY! This is AVARICE plain and simple my fellow Americans….these DEAD BEAT 1%’ers need to pay their FAIR SHARE!
The Poor and the American Middle Class are already assuming the burden of protecting this Country the USA in the all volunteer Military. Ah yes, but the lives of our American Sons and Daughters are valued as much as the American Middle Class jobs Mitt Romney sent overseas, as witnessed by his neglect to even mention them in his acceptance speech.
This REDISTRIBUTION argument is BOGUS!
Good post Thom,
I just thought I'd post the Cato Institute paper (one of them) that was responsible for your being told SS would not be there for you. This is a Libertarian Think Tank that hates government programs like SS and would love to privatize it into Wall St. (IRA's and 401Ks, etc)

I do not oppose having your own account, but I would like the younger folks to have a safety net like our grandparents and parents and hopefully I will have.
Congrats on the ratings the last 2 nights.
I think Obama should do his own fact check during the debates. They know the topics ahead of time so set up a site with charts and graphs to prove his points and end his answers with Go to www. blah blah blah for more info.
Someone else brought up Ryan's "tell" when we discussed his lies.
I noticed too, when he talks he blinks his eyes fast, a little eye rolling mixed in with it and eye "flash" (widen while talking)
The person said the tell was widen eyes and chin toward his chest. He does all these things often when he's speaking.
I found a site about body language: http://www.bodylanguageproject.com/dictionary/bodylanguage-dictionary-e-eyebrow-flash-eye-direction-eye-flash-energy-displacement-emblems
Excerpts:
Extended eye blink: The extended eye blink is performed by arrogant individuals as they temporarily shut off the outside world as if it were irrelevant. They are sending a message to others that what they are doing and feeling isn’t worth their energy and thought and that they either bore them, or they are superior to you.
Eye flash: The eye flash lasts on average for only 0.75 seconds and is a momentary widening of the eyelids during a conversation. It includes no involvement of the eyelids. The widening is usually wide enough to reveal the sclera which is the whites of the surrounding the iris. The eyeflash when given by a speaker, emphasizes specific words being spoken and can serve to change the meaning of a given word or phrase. It normally accompanies adjectives rather than any other parts of speech, and women use it more often them men.
Eye rolling: This cue is done by rolling the eyes around in a semi circle from bottom to top, or looking straight up. It says disbelief as in “I can’t believe you just said this, you are a fool.”
Eye widening: Eye widening is a positive nonverbal cue indicating that someone is observing positive stimuli that bring them joy and happiness. The size of the eyes directly indicates how positive someone is about a topic or other stimuli.
Rachel went through an amazing description of polling results on a variety of categories - I heard it on podcast during my daily bike ride in the Alps - including "who you trust more to understand my problems", abortion, and the like. (Romnoid was ahead only on deficit reduction.) Since then, I have looked for a place that these results are available, to read more about them, but I cannot find them. How was it put together and where can I find them (in one place)?
