Closing monologue tonight: brilliant! Thanks, Rachel!
What I loved about it most was Rachel's use of the word "hair-raising", and the implication that she's perhaps not 100% enthusiastic about the Obama administration's war policies. Rachel spends so much time attacking Mitt Romney (and he deserves it) that it often seems as if she's giving Obama an almost-free pass.
Tonight's monologue show's that's not the case. But I wish Rachel would talk about this kind of thing more, and be willing more often to present vigorous critiques of Obama and other Democrats, when they're deserved.
And they don't have to be always stuck at the end of the show.
Agreed -- "Drift" is so good I keep giving copies away, and I'd like the loose nukes and other policies like this one to be the daily fodder rather than just sniping at who said what how.
EXCELLENT SEGMENT! And the report is worth a read and think too. Thanks for the links!
You know you gotta vote
for the right guy
for the right reason
'tis the Season.
Take a lesson
from his predecessor
who ain't no professor
ran our country
into a recession -
here's his confession.
"I started two wars,
for no real reason."
'Tis the Season
VOTE for the right guy.
Cuz this new dude,
this Romney cat,
he ain't all that.
Can't add.
Can't subtract.
He flips.
He flops.
This man just won't stop.
What he says today
he changes tomorrow.
What he says tomorrow
is what he meant yesterday.
The man's delusional,
unstable and self-serving.
We need a President
who's more able and deserving.
Don't believe the hype.
Romney's on some b.s.
and neither rain, snow, sleet,
nor VOTER I.D.
is gonna keep me on the couch
come Nov 6th.

rachel, who is checking the checkers on voter suppression.' if they are checking the poor white, the middle class, the blacks and hispanics for proper id.....who is checking them at the polls to see that there id is correct... how do we start this up.....i think every state that this is happening in, needs to start the processing of checking and voter suppression against the gop. i bet there are some who just got married and have not changed their names and many with no id or bad id
Now here's a thought: What if the Rs are glomming on to the false poll numbers in order to pre-but skewed results from vote tampering? "Our guy won fair and square; look at the poll numbers!"
Scorn for inconvenient truths is the sure sign of ideological extremism run amok. Re-weighting poll data goes far beyond straight-faced lying, though paragrafM brings another frightening perspective to it.
From Todd Akin, to Mitt's persistent Big Lies (e.g. POTUS is an apologist), to the Bush era suppression of scientific data that undermined it's culture war positions, all the way back to the persecution of Galileo, extreme ideologues will attack (literally attack) the truth when what is doesn't comport with their pre-conceived notions of what should be. It goes hand-in-hand with theocracy (it may even define theocracy) and is a serious threat to democracy and personal freedoms.
I agree with the criticism of politicians not even addressing these concerns. I am reminded of a quote from George Washington (in his address to the officers of the army in March 1837): "If men are to be precluded from offering their sentiments on a matter which may involve the most serious and alarming consequences that can invite the consideration of mankind, reason is of no use to us; the freedom of speech may be taken away, and dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep, to the slaughter."
What should one say, then, when it isn't not being allowed, but everyone simply DOESN'T talk about such matters? Only by engaging in a considered, reasoned debate can such a thing be examined, and proper action taken. So far, I see very little desire to engage in such a conversation, on far too many points....
I think I figured it out, all this money the one percent is throwing into the election against the President and which increasingly looks like a bad investment is actually their stimulus package to help us 99 percent. It is nothing more then trickle down economics at work. All these " job creators" are creating jobs. I guess we should thank them.
My kind of twisted humor, MME123. I enjoyed that.
Why was Mrs. Romney dressed like a hooker on Jay Leno? She looked and sounded like...
On the 25 Sep show Ms. Maddow referred to "Black Irish." Is that a reference to survivors of the Spanish Armada that landed in Ireland and lived out their life there?
My mom's parents both immigrated from Ireland. My mom's youngest brother was unbelievably dark in skin color with his freckles barely perceptible.
Would the term Black Dutch refer to the same phenomenon only in Holland?
Make believe polls for a make believe candidate.
At last the discussion is turning to the question - what happened to the "Honorable Opposition"? What democracy can survive when there is only one political party - regardless of which. Who in the Grand Old Party is willing to risk an election loss to come out for the things that they really value - anyone? Or have they all become hostage to the "Fundamentalists" in their party? This election is a very depressing show of flip flops all around just waiting to see which way the wind is blowing. Is this election a death blow to American democracy?
It would be useful to look at the UK Press relating to Obama and Drones. There is a much more realistic understanding that the Drone attacks are undermining American policies in Pakistan and Middle East. There is an excellent article in the UK Independent relating to `Double Tap` Drones by Jerome Taylor. The attack is firstly by one drone when people come to help there is a follow-up attack. I am not sure this is in the same report quoted by Rachel, but what is happening in Pakistan people are not going to help people injured fearing that they will be attacked for helping the injured. Consequently those injured initially are more likely to die from their injuries if help is not immediate. As a UK citizen what oversight has Congress on these actions. Surely in a state of war the President has to answer to Congress. It is seen in some quarters of the UK and Europe Obama`s actions are worse than Bush`s as he is killing people as Judge, Jury and Executioner. Bush at least was honest enough to stay I wish to get rid of Hussain despite it being illegal. Obama seems to be acting as I want to kill someone therefore I will. Morally how different is Obama from Hussain. I now that is extremely provocative but as Rachel stated on her programme these are the facts, for all the fact-checkers going after the Americans how many Drones have killed citizens of Pakistan or Yemen. Most importantly an American has been killed outside the Us on the decision of the President without due process. If the GOP wants to destroy Obama on anything related to Foreign policy they should be attacking this. My concern as someone sitting in the UK watching the US Election take its course ETHICS AND MORAL DISCOURSE HAVE BEEN ABANDONED AND THE RAND PHILOSOPHY HAS BEEN CHOSEN BY BOTH DEMOCRATS AND THE GOP. God help the world and God help America because both candidates have abandoned morality. If they have done this what is the point of the Presidential election?
A question from the UK over here we have Racial Discrimination Law that states that one cannot be racially abusive to another relating to race, there are others relating to gender, sexual orientation, etc. Cannot Scott Brown be prosecuted by being racist? I thought that a adult country like the US would have moved on, I only suggest to the Warren campaign to state what if she were African-american, Jewish or Hispanic would he be allowed by the media to get away with this. In the 21st C.E. for a politician to try to attack the indiginous people of North America is truly offensive. Perhaps those of the Native American remind Brown that what the US did to their people was genocide but I believed he should be treated with the contempt he deserves.
