Following up on an item from yesterday, Republicans continue to enthusiastically embrace the notion that nearly all presidential election polling has been skewed in Democrats' favor, and the conservative Washington Times gets in on the fun today. If you missed it, Rachel's segment on this last night is well worth your time.
But what struck me as especially interesting this morning was today's edition of "Fox & Friends," where the hosts not only endorsed the notion that pollsters are over-sampling Democrats, but also that the problem is sending a bad "psychological message" to Americans.
Here's a quick follow-up question for the hosts: is their own network in on this?
Fox News released a poll earlier this month showing President Obama leading Mitt Romney nationally by five points. Late last week, Fox News also released survey results that found Obama leading Romney by seven points in Ohio, six points in Florida, and seven points in Virginia. In an odd twist, Fox News polling shows Obama doing better in these critical battleground states than Public Policy Polling did, and PPP is often considered a Democratic-leaning pollster.
In other words, when "Fox & Friends" accuses pollsters of sending a bad "psychological message" to the electorate by releasing results Republicans don't like, they're inadvertently condemning their own network.
Leave it to Fox News to identify a polling conspiracy so insidious that Fox News is actually part of the polling conspiracy.

Let me spin the top in a different direction:
The polls show Obama in a runaway- so, stay home Dems, it is in the bag!
All I need to know about Fox and Friends was shown last week on the SNL Thursday edition.
It really is wonderful to be a right-winger -- nothing in your world is falsifiable at all!
If it's on Fox, than it must be true, right? I mean they wouldn't blatantly lie to me would they, would they? :/
[/s]
if Fox News lies about Fox News lying, will the circular spin eventual reach a speed so fast it creates a vortex and collapses in on itself in a kind of right wing black hole?
It's called Romney/Ryan...
So...this election is the event horizon just before the country gets sucked in by the gravitational pull of Mitt's empty soul?
I can see that.
Unlikely, but maybe we could harness the spin for dynamo-electric generation and apply it toward our nation's efforts toward energy independence. Freeeedom!

This is probably the unknown energy source the scientists discussing interstellar faster-than-light travel down at the Johnson Space Center last week were thinking about.
Bad psychological message...Right. Bad polls! (rolls up newspaper) *SMACK* Bad polls! Down, down...
Maybe this would be a better psychological message:
The sh*t you're selling sucks, and the people aren't buying it.
Nah. Blame the polls.
Last week the weatherman said it would be clear and warm today. Last night they said it would rain and be cool. Today it is cool and rainy. Does that make my weatherman a good predictor? I have no reason to think he was biased last week, but I have no reason to think pollsters are unbiased, either. More importantly, there is no way to test the accuracy of early polls. I do think polls have a psychological effect, and you can measure the bias of the press by which polls they report. So far, I haven't found a media outlet that consistently relies on a "most trusted" pollster other than their own.
When you take a real good look at Paul Ryan, he reminds you of a troll under a bridge. The troll waits for people to pass over the bridge than jumps out to devour them, if you don’t pay a toll to line his pockets. That long drawn out face of his really does suit him well, especially with his fellow stench.
He does have a witch's peak...
Witchcraft...Black Magic...Evil Potions...what fools these mortals be...(well that rabbly 47% anyway!!!!)
It's gotta be tough on Fox, I mean, these well-paid guys and girls in low cut tops work so hard at rearranging truth and deconstructinog facts into political +/-. They've trashed Obama until they're blue, they've talked up King Romney until they're green, and still the ignorant masses won't give up their liberal bias. Damn the hides of that 47%.
We really should sympathize with this poor machine de propagande .
/snark/
After they lose the election...maybe Romney and Ryan can team up again for a production of "Waiting for Godot" on FOX "News"!! Absurdist theatre at its best...well, besides that "rolling calamity" of a campaign of theirs...
Perhaps they will replay their Anna Nicole Smith marathon instead of the campaign.
I watched Rachel's show last night and when she was showing the new ballots they have in Florida, it made me sick!
With all the technology we have available, the voting system we have sucks.
I still scratch my head and can not fathom the fact that the last time Florida screwed us, we got stuck with Bushy for 8 years!
One would think after that HUGE blunder, we would have fix the system, but no, it's more a$$ backwards than ever. Hey, after we bring Democracy to the rest of the world, we have a little here?
It's un-F&^%$#$ believable.
Remember, from the perspective of the Rape-Public-CONs in charge there, that's not a bug, it's a feature.

Do you think Romney's comment's like when he say's people do'nt need health insurance affect's his poll number's?He say's you do'nt need health insurance,if you have a heart attack, Mitt's Ambulance Service will pick you up at your apartment and take you to the emergency room where you'll get totally free care.He make's Shangri-la promise's, but he's so wealthy he's out of touch with the real world.
With the money Mitt has, doesn't he kinda live in Shangri-la? He buys anything he wants. Not being able to buy the presidency must really go against the accustomed grain of his life.
Maybe he honestly feels that because we lesser beings can't afford an elevator in the 5-stall garages at the seven houses we bought with our welfare checks, we resent him for that little extra thing and plan to punish him by not voting for him. Life is just so unfair to Mitt.
Mittens out of touch: don't forget, years ago the medical business could not go after your home or your credit, you paid what you could afford. As soon as that changed, the insurance companies are holding us all hostage....PROTECTION....like the mafia!
Go to any major city in the US and you'll see the tallest, most expensive, state of the art buildings are ALL insurance companies!!
Go to the ER for free?
Only Mental Mittens could say that.
Lies, make believe, not trusting FACTS - that's the GOTP in a nutshell. Now can we get them the medication they need?
Further fluoridate their water....and spike it with Xanax. We wouldn't want their teeth to rot while they gibber away aimlessly...oh, wait, they've been doing that for years now.....
Romney is only alarmed by this because he can't keep conning the big donors into betting on him.
Maybe Mitt can't buy the election but Karl Rove can, he's a pro! He's the guy that gave us Bush for 8 years. First Florida...that was easy cause brother Jeb was in power. Ohio wasn't too difficult either, what question the voting? wait several counties somehow lost millions of votes so they couldn't be reviewed and those electronic voting machines...well they were programmed to change Kerry votes to Bush votes. Look it up. I saw a story on Common Ground that suggested that Rove wouldn't be giving all this money along with all his crony friends if he wasn't convinced that he could manipulate the election results. When I went back the next day, to re-read, the story wasn't anywhere on the site. Hmmmmm! Rachel it might be worth asking Dan Rather about the story he did on the voting machines from 2007. Maybe we need a re-visit, since we are all distracted by the voting suppression that is being attempted.
Kommandant Karl is on the move........suppressing as many minority votes as he can get his grubby paws on...wait, swine don't have paws....
You are spot on. Just finished reading a newly released book about Boss Rove that reveals how the votes were manipulated in Ohio in 2004 leading to a second Bush administration. The GOP now says that the polls are all wrong, and that Romney is actually ahead, which is balony. Romney/GOP have quietly hired a consulting firm that was alleged to have engaged in the destruction of ballots in several states in 2004. The possibility of stuffed ballot boxes, destruction of ballots, voter intimidation, and last minute manipulation of the voter tallies leave me fearful of another fradulent election. I am not resting easy.
Who takes any of the fools on Fox & Friends serious? They are overpaid clowns in the Murdoch circus named Fox News. Any serious journalist would be embarrassed to be seen with the Fox & Friends crew.
As She Who Must Be Obeyed says, "their stupidity is bottomless."
Its not paranoia if THEY REALLY ARE OUT TO GET YOU!
It's not like they understand statistics at Fox anyways. There was a segment they did a few years ago; I saw the repeat on The Daily Show. Fox asked people to text in their answer to some right wing question. But some Democrat was watching and put up the question and number onto a web page so all his friends started texting in. As the results came in the Fox people were so frustrated at the answers. They expected the results to be 95% or more right-wing. But with all the others texting, it was more like 55% skewed to the left. The anchors were so upset that someone had hijacked their "official" poll and screwed up the data!
And with another "scientific" poll, they had people again texting into the studio. When you looked at the data, the percentages added up to over 100%. But at least the anchors were happy with the data and how official it all was.
I was happy 'cause I was teaching polling and how to write a poll question, how to find people to respond to it, bias in responses, etc. Perfect examples of what not to do when creating a survey. :)
