OK just read the latest Rolling Stone Aug 18, 2012 and huge article on The Long. Lawless Ride of Sheriff Joe, clearly racist, clearly against "wet backs", but clearly courted by Mitt Romney, and Michelle Bachman. Worth a second look, Romney might actually remember him now. :)

Oops.
Never mind.

Today's (9/26/12) podcast is not synched. After a failed automatic download at iTunes, I redid the DL, played it, then that's when I found the sound jumpy and not synched. Anyone else with the same issue?
False alarm... there was a resource hungry process running in the background. I missed it when I first looked for a source of memory hogging.
Just read the article about the war on coal. I connected it to the great speech given in the movie " Other People's Money" ( the 12 min version on UT). If you snooze you loose and we do not make buggy whips anymore. Re-tooling and education is needed here. Awesome speech in the movie. Check it out.
it has multiple points that fit today's issues.
I sure hope Senator McCaskill does not regret hoping Todd Akin is the person she wanted to run against. She got her wish but along with crazy Todd Akin she got the crazy Republican Party too. What's the old saying "Be careful about what you wish for".
Rachael I LOVE YOU !! im a huge fan i watch you everyday.. Only thing i don't like is the commercials there is so many during your hour and they are soooooo freakin long.. But Mitt Romney is very predictable he lies so much its hard for him to keep his story straight... Then remember they said he retired retroactively from Bain 2 years before he really did.. Then he produced his 2011 tax returns and went back and engineered them to hit the mark he wanted them to hit so he would look better but he ended up looking bad AGAIN because now they said he paid to much taxes, Which in his mind that disqualifies him to run for and be the president..NOW he comes out and gives us a bone on what his policy might be then an hr later his campaign comes out and they say it ain't so... I'm not sure which lying is worse they are equally bad for someone who wants to be the leader of the free world..
I always hear that the lies are coming from both sides even from Mittens himself he says that the people on the news and the radio always say that.. But what has the president lied about? Even if Obama has lied once thats a poll Romney would crush the president on it would be somewhere around 1 of Obama's lies to 10,000 of Romney's lies and don't even add Paul Ryan's lies he most likely had that many the night of his RNC speech.. I think Romney is ruined and i love that he still says that hes is going to win the election and he is like 100% sure of that and that his campaign i think he said "we are doing great" (they are a well oiled machine let me tell you)..
The American people don't want someone who Lies all the time and someone who panders to anyone who will listen if he thinks they will vote for him and then etch -a- sketch an hour later when no one is listening... We are not dumb Mitt!! "we as in the American voter the 100%" We can see right through good old mittens and we don't like what we see.. That and Obama at least stands for something and will change things if he can get Washington (The GOP) to work with him during his next term of service.. That and we like the president he is one of my favorite presidents im glad we have him and he stood up for something and became Potus....
Mitt Romney scares me he doesn't look like hes ready to stand for the 100%...I Cant wait to vote for Obama and get this over with.. Only way the GOP wins is if they have blocked the vote really well that and the GOP base turns out like crazy (Steal it Basically like they did in 2000) Which i just don't see happening but you never know...Oh and the debates may move the polls but they wont have enough push to help either campaign (They both aren't the greatest debaters) So I expect the polls to be around where they are on now election day maybe tighten up a bit.. I can't wait for that week to be over and we know who has won (God help us if its Mitt Romney)...
Hey, Rachael I know you won't even read this (if ya do) I'm sorry I wrote you a short story I just don't have that many people to talk politics with (Everyone hates talking about it..But I love it) And I had to get some stuff off my chest... I'm sure the grammar is pretty bad above too lol.. ;p Love the show but the commercials are killing it.. Talk to you someday soon ;)

Todd Akin has screwed himself which if non consensual is a crime. It is ok, if he wanted too, since 2006. If he screwed the pooch, that is legal since bestiality has been decriminalized. By the way there is no rape or sodomy in heterosexual marriage in Missouri since all married sex is considered consensual since it deals with property. Just sayin'.
Careful. We would not want the "progressives" to be come drunk with power the way the "conservatives" have.
As Max said, "I'm drunk with power, but it just goes right through me."
*sigh*
Think about the remarkable achievements in the first two years of the Obama presidency. Think about the nuts and bolts about how that happened. History will be clear about the unrecognized contribution of Speaker Pelosi.
I just think it is a shame. Not one comment on her wise words last night. Not one.
Legislation is not magic. With all due respect to the President's goals for bipartisanship, magical thinking about negotiations with the GOP have gotten us nowhere. Speaker Pelosi was dead on in her advice to the President warning him they would obstruct.
We all know how the story will end if we think the solution is to build unassailable power in the Democratic party. Sure, the country may need that for the next 12 years in order to achieve the massive challenges of global warming, and restructuring of Wall Street and the assault on middle class wealth. But do we think that power will be incorruptible?
Getting to Paul Cambell's remark above, that's why the electoral reforms the Speaker listed were disappointing. Sure, blocking the ability of monied interests (conservative or liberal) to buy elections is essential for the health of our democracy. But it does nothing to address the polarization caused by restricting choices in every election to one of two flavors.
Is it necessarily quixotic to suggest we need to begin to follow a path, however long towards true multi-party representation in the US?
Voters on the Right are complaining they have the choice of a poop sandwich or a mud sandwich and they resent it. On a preferential voting ballot, the conservative vote would have percolated to a Huntsman or a Pawlenty. On a preferential ballot, I could vote for Pelosi first, Murray second, Warren third and Obama fourth, without injuring Obama's chances of victory. With national proportional representation, libertarians would get their 10% of representatives in the House that they should fairly be apportioned. Then the avenues for legislation could be more fluid. Clever legislators like Pelosi could construct vote strategies to attract sufficient libertarian votes to end the Drug war to balance off the Blue Dog votes she would lose.
It seems to me the sort of legislative game change we need.
As for realism, the required constitutional changes appear insurmountable. It isn't anything a sane person could expect to do in a short time frame. But the US knows how to take on apparently insurmountable goals. We break then down into smaller parts and wear it down. My view is the first step on the path is to institute national referendums that have the force of acts of Congress- including constitutional amendments.
That seems like a viable path to wearing down the grip on power that the two parties currently enjoy.
Why is Romney not winning? I heard it on a number of Cable News Shows yesterday. Everyone has an answer and some present great arguments. http://chasmcduffee.blogspot.com/2012/09/why-romney-is-not-winning.html Speaker Pelosi was great last night. Rachel re-asked the question about the Afghanistan war twice nicely and got obfuscation, I thought. We like listening to Rachel explain things in ways that we can get it. You who work with her, should notice how good she is at it, and take a large share of the credit for yourselves. Great show! #waspforobama
