Rep. Todd Akin, the controversial Missouri Republican running for the U.S. Senate this year, isn't exactly a champion on the issue of women's health. He is, after all, under the impression that women can magically "shut down" unwanted pregnancies caused by "legitimate" rapes.
One might think, then, that Akin would try to avoid women's issues altogether, focusing his attention elsewhere. But it appears the right-wing congressman just can't help himself.
Since Missouri GOP Senate nominee Todd Akin's comments about "legitimate rape" rarely causing pregnancy, he has attempted to do damage control with women voters. he noted, in an apology ad, that he has two daughters and wants "tough justice for predators." He trumpeted his women for Akin coalition.
But a new comment isn't likely to help his efforts to appeal to women voters: Akin noted that his opponent, Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill, was more "ladylike" during the 2006 campaign.
Oh good, Todd Akin wants to present himself as the arbiter of whether women are, in his estimation, "ladylike" enough to meet his discerning standards.
In this case, Akin told the Kansas City Star that McCaskill, as far as he's concerned, "had a confidence and was much more ladylike" six years ago.
And what do Akin's new-found friends at the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the Republican National Committee have to say about this. "Decline to comment."
Imagine that.

I only hope she kicks his a$$, that'll show him "ladylike!"
There's no way he can attempt to back peddle on his previous comments about rape and pregnancies. He's an embarressment ...
I hope so as well. I can't understand how the Republican party can have some many idiots in it's party. You would think they are trying to through the elections because they have no idea on how to fix our country. BTW, what kind of women would support a party that does nothing but put women down, I guess it's like working Americans who support the Republican party who are trying to destroy them. I just can't understand it.
If McCaskill wants to say she would like hang the aging white misogynists by their balls, I would hope the other 'ladies' would shout; 'you go girl'. The old fool has belittled women and needs to go. Ladylike does not mean doormat.
Akin is the kind of guys who would fart in a elevator and then blame it on you......
Removing Todd Akin's foot from his mouth would require major surgery.
And a sledge hammer.
And a cold steel chisel.
Sounds like something Romney would say and has no idea why people are making a fuss over it. He's probably clueless.
Not ladylike? After the hell you put women through, you just expect them to roll over and offer Mint Juleps? Sorry, bub. Those days are over.
His wife probably always lets him win at cards. I bet that's his standard, and McCaskill is playing to win.
I'm so tired of this old geezer embarrassing my state. I have had to apologize for his past comment on rape too many times and read many comments from women who suffered from being raped. Very emotional comments were told in articles and I saw a few women on tv express their outrage too on the subject. I so hope this will not be forgotten in November and my state can get rid of his embarrassing azz!!!
If it's any consolation, Alan West also stepped in it when he told Debbie Wasserman Schultz that she was 'no lady'...my reply is ALWAYS 'if you think you represent a HUMAN, you would be mistaken!'
The hypocrisy here is thick. The left is in love with a serial adulterer, perjurer, accused rapist, and convicted liar. He may actually abuse women, but that's OK, he's with us.
As always, IOKIYAD
blanks both your ignorance and hypocrisy are rich.
You defend the crooks, serial adulters, perjurers, rapists, dead beat fathers, liars and criminals in the GOP, and here you are tying to cry "hypocrite" on this site!
You have truly hit bottom with your idiot posts.
crooks (Duke Cunningham (R)-California)
serial adulterer(Newt Gingrich-(R)Fmr SOTH)
perjurer (James Watts (R)- Sec. of Interior [Reagen Admin] )
accused rapist (Greg Peterson (R)-GOP Political Fundraiser from Utah)
convicted liar (Bob Ney (R)-Ohio)
You were saying?
Shiiter , according to the polls a lot of republicans like him too lol , and lets get this straight , the only way for a person to be an ACCUSED RAPIST , is for a moron like you to accuse them , I accuse you of being a pedophile , welcome aboard
Calvin, nice arm waving. But it remains that if Clinton could run again he'd win easily, abuse of women notwithstanding. Obviously the left doesn't really care about women. It's just another double standard. As always, IOKIYAD.
Shooter, you REALLY must be down on your luck to be posting jibberish like this for money:
1) Clinton was a "blue dog" Democrat so I sincerely doubt the "left was in love" with him.
2) WHO EVER accused Clinton of rape??? That is a totally new one on me!
3) As far as I know, the only women he ever hurt was his wife and she forgave him. It really IS ONLY THEIR BUSINESS - not yours and not mine!
4) Clinton's affairs NEVER affected us - it's only Gingrich (another adulterer and one of your heros) who profited from them! Ah, yea Gingrich - whose solution to high healthcare costs was divorce (TWICE he divorced women who were ill!). Akin's beliefs would affect MILLIONS of women!
So WHO's the hypocrite????? Psst - stay away from mirrors - you might see one!
Clinton is today's lefty hero. Interestingly it's also the left that has whined about a non-existent "war on women" while simultaneously elevating a notorious abuser of women. As always, IOKIYAD.
The war on women is the systematic attack on women's reproductive health, because SOME Americans are religiously against something other's aren't. It is the attempt to PUNISH women for having sex or being raped by making them bear the baby. It is the attempts to declare a woman at fault because she happened to be targeted by a rapist instead of the RAPISTS fault because he decided to rape her. It is telling her she's going to get breast cancer and die if she aborts a baby she can not afford to take care of, has no religious reason to keep it and then IGNORING the now impoverished mother and child. It's telling a woman her giving birth is not covered by her insurance because that's an ELECTIVE procedure. It's telling them they should pay 50-100% more for health insurance because they weren't born men. It's calling comments like this uncalled for and treating her like the adorable little woman when she behaves the way you want, but call her names when you think she's speaking her mind...These are all parts of the things that we call the war on women.
Women are not the following things: Sluts, Asking for it, required to have children, required to follow your religious beliefs, and they're certainly not required to be "Lady-like."
He's the voice of the Republican Id.
Let us tell a little truth here.
Mister Todd Akin had a confidence and was much more 'gentleman' like six years ago.
Truly ladylike: smart, outspoken, honest, treats people with respect, and has integrity.
Todd Akin's ladylike: meek, submissive, brainless, witless, and silent.
One might think a candidate for the US Senate was politician enough to find a woman to call Senator McCaskill 'unladylike' rather than comment on something else he has no clue about, but Mr. Akin probably has a hard time finding one who he is on speaking terms with right now.
One might think that Mr. Akin would think, but that appears beyond him also.
check around folks. akin has his support back (including the money).
after all it's been such a long time (17.4 sound bites worth) so the public has forgotten.
No amount of money will change the minds of the half of the voters that are vulnerable to being 'legitimately raped'. We must stand with our wives, daughters and nieces in Missouri and across the nation and defeat this menacing attitude.
Betcha Akin was wishing he could smack her upside the head for being so uppity, just like in the good old days.
He's a loser. His policies are awful. He is a hateful misogynist that continues to say outrageously stupid and/or insulting things. I am voting against him. No self respecting woman could possibly vote for him.
I always wondered what 1912 felt like to women....now I know. I don't like it. I wish we had a time machine and we could send people back in time to the era they most fit in.
I'd rather send them forward into the future. To an era when there are none of their kind. When all forms of bigotry and inequality have finally been eradicated.
Poetic justice.
No, send him back to 1912 - as Mrs. Akin.
I'm baffled that anyone would vote for him, but on the other hand, there is a huge percentage of Republicans that don't care - they will do anything to get the Democrats out of office.
Remember, Mr. Akin crime is spouting the party line. This reminds me of the member of the English Parliament in the 1840's who took his fellow MPs to task for denouncing the famine in Ireland after passing the policies which precipitated the famine. Fortunately, we can vote these out of office before anything that dire occurs.
Understood, Mr. Akin. Women are to remain in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant - pregnant by whom is not important, be it husband or rapist...cause he knows we can shut it down when we need to with those "legitimate rapes". Hmmmm, maybe being "ladylike" is what determines the legitimacy of the rape...but anyway, women must just stay there in the kitchen...
What century is this?
Akin can't pull his foot out of his mouth, his head is too deeply ensconced in his rectum.
It's the only way he can lick his toes.
You, Sir, are no gentleman.
Can you really expect a lady to be ladylike when you are no gentleman?
I guess to Mr. Akin, "ladylike" means being quiet while the men have something to say...
What makes you think there was a man speaking on the stage that night?
Lest we forget, Mr. Akin has quietly climbed back in the polls, and is now statistically tied with Ms. McCaskill in their Missouri Senate race.
So the question must be asked: WTF is wrong with the people of Missouri???
McCaskill was more "ladylike" in 2006..?
Akin (the legitimate rape can't get you pregnant guy) is funnier (and more tragic) than any Sat nite Live skit
That's no lady. That's the next senator from Missouri!
Who is "s"hooter talking about? Nobody is "in love" with any abuser. But here's the thing-it's those who discuss their abusive ideas as if they were virtues who push everybody over the edge. A rapist is a rapist- but if it's up to the female body to magically be the truth test-then there is a big PROBLEM here in the real world.
As Dan Aykroyd use to say to Jane Curtain on Saturday Night Live, " Todd you ignorant slut".
Join the new republican party where we strive to perfect our air of superiority while holding firm to our ignorance!
Without any women? That's no fun. You ARE supposed to have fun at a party, aren't you?
It's looking more and more as if Todd Akin is being paid by Claire McCaskill. Why else would he be making all these campaign fundraising ads for her? First the "legitimate rape" fiasco, and now this.
