As part of his swing through Ohio yesterday, Mitt Romney stopped at a high school in the Columbus area. Reporter Marc Kovac posted video from the scene outside, where a group of Obama supporters chanted "Romney, go home!" A few of the Romney supporters answered with some version of "Go get food stamps!"
With 40 days until the election -- and counting -- Obama has been leading in the polls by eight to 10 points.

It's going to get nastier than this. Think how close things came to blowing up at some of the late Palin rallies in 2008 when they were showing up with stuffed monkeys on sticks and such. These scum are going to get violent.

Please help Paul Ryan get a job. He does not want to be part of the 47%
Thank you
Cannot wait for the "true the vote" gang to go into African American community's in Cleveland Ohio and other "urban area's" with the intent to intimidate voters. it will be epic. These racists only learn one way. I hope the camera's are rolling to catch all the shennanigans of the GOP.
Could be. McCain tried (ineptly) to be more or less a mensch in 2008. Romney has shown no inclination at all in that direction.
Here's a link to an article in Financial Advisor that details some of the tax-avoidance tricks Mitt is using to pass millions to his family, avoiding estate taxes, too. Yikes! Even his great grandchildren will never have to work. http://www.fa-mag.com/fa-news/12418--romney-tax-avoiding-i-dig-it-trust-gives-heirs-triple-benefit.html
Don't like the system? Write your Congressperson. Meanwhile, why is it OK for the Kennedy's to have multi-generational trusts but not the Romneys? Would you care to address that hypocrisy, or shall we leave it at IOKIYAD?
Re: #2.1
Who said it is OK for the Kennedy's? I didn't read that into #2.
So - no hypocrisy.
And I have written my Congressperson and I VOTE!
Shooter,
The Kennedy's were different - yes, they had money and yes, their children and grandchildren inherited a great deal of money, but they never considered the 47% as "the others" and they spent their lifetimes working so that other people could have as good a life as possible.
Compare that to Romney who believes in keeping it all for "his own"!
So, NO, there is no hypocrisy in commenting on what Romney is doing with his money when he is so intent on making sure none of the rest of us get a chance!!
Shooter, the day I see Mitt Romney authentically speak this passionately on behalf of working people (below), I'll be glad to give credit where credit is due:
Ted Kennedy:
http://youtu.be/SicFn8rqPPE
Like I said, IOKIYAD
No, Shooter - if you're a wealthy person who advocates on behalf of an improved quality of life for those who are not wealthy like yourself, you're a contributing member of society. If you're a tax-and-draft dodger who feels that the playing field should always be tilted in your favor at the expense of others - that's what's not okay.
I see. And you have some Romney quote illustrating that? Especially the "at the expense of others" part.
Romney stuffing $100m into an IRA, Romney bussing in his own supporters to his NAACP and Univision appearances, Romney throwing a hissy fit over his Univision introduction, Romney reversing the numbers in his "47%" soliloquy - because Barack Obama actually got 53% of the vote in 2008, John McCain got 46%, but admittedly it sounds better to tell your wealthy donors that "47%" of voters won't vote for you, rather than that '53%" won't -- and one could go on and on -- it speaks volumes about Romney's particular sense of entitlement.
In other words, all you have is envy, spite, and bile.
As I said in a comment above, the defining characteristic of the Republican is projection. What have you ever offered this blog or the rest of the nation except for envy, spit and bile.
Alan A
That should be spite not spit OTOH spit works too.
At least the protesters are chanting Romney's name. Poor Mitt couldn't get his own crowd to chant his name.
His name is Not Obama.
I find it very sad that some of these perfect "Christians" folks who sit up in a pew on Sunday calling themselves "good people" would spew so much hate. We've seen this before and yet these folks haven't learned anything. Calling people names doesn't work - remember there are more good people in this world than bad.
Charming. They are so deluded they'll vote against their self interest and continue to think Obama voters are only the 'poor'...glad to know THEY used all that was good about this country and now will deny it to others. Yes, 'good' Christians.
Sadly, its a lesson they just cannot seem to pass. We're making progress - and seeing it in our 401K, etc. But people will indeed vote against their own best interest, even when Romney keeps telling lies. As he himself said "its our time to be in the white house!" Like he's playing hopscotch or something!
Why do they assume the protesters were on "Food Stamps"? Romney and the Republicans claim the division is caused by Obama, yet the racist comments and accusations and name calling all comes from Romney, Republicans and their supporters. I wonder do they then go to church or synagogue and then ask for forgiveness for being cruel, accusatory and for holding such contempt for the plight of their fellow citizens - not to mention hatred.
That's just how some people think. I can remember being in nukes protest marches and whatnot and people would shout, "Get a job!" As if anyone protesting nuclear weapons was unemployed. Protestors are, or were, always seen as lower-income folks who had "nothing better to do."
Supporters on one side and dissenters on the other. And in between, a guy selling campaign t-shirts. I love America.
I do love the guy in the middle with the shirts.
Oh, those independents.
that is such bull@!$%#. reread what you wrote. does that make any sense for any party? think about it. if, right now 50 percent of people are working and paying 30 percent of their income of taxes....wouldn't the US have MORE money if 80 percent of the people are working and paying 20 percent taxes? its in the best interest of any politician to get people back to work. obama hasn't put anybody to work and he's had damned near years. he doesn't know how. romney has spent years making jobs.
Actually, Obama has created more net private sector jobs in three and three quarters years than George W. Bush did in eight.
Yep, 5 million jobs created as a matter of fact. Get a clue digi!
Gee I wonder just how many of Mitt's supporters are making above average wages? How many of them are minimum wage earners? How many of them are so angered by the lies they are told that they fail to see that they themselves are part of the 47%?
They are like the plumber that gets invited to a wealthy customers party--He struts around acting as if he is somebody all the while not realizing he was invited as the entertainment. Nose in the air as he lies about his "business" he does not see how they are enjoying the show.
Emo voting?
I am on the line of poverty and lower middle class but I know now that Obama was a big mistake voting for Mitt and for this country
it doesn't matter what you earn. he wants to make jobs. the more people that are working, the more taxes that are paid, the faster we can get out of the obama bull@!$%# hole. 47%? its true. only about half of us pay taxes for one reason or another. a lot of people have given up hope and don't even try to find jobs anymore. our problems are bigger than this tho. look at the middle east. and our deficit. obamacare is going to kill us. the 12/31 taxes that will kick in will kill many of us. the printing of new money is making the dollar worth nothing.
So you believe in voting rights at least?Good for you now help us stop voter suppression.
How silly of them! Don't they realize that if they are supporting Obama, they are ALREADY on food stamps!
Of course, I'm sure the Romney crowd assumed all those moocher-victim Obama voters would go away if they were convinced someone had more food stamps to give them. Yeah, I'm sure that's what it was.
I want off food stamps that is why I am voting for Mitt
go steve. i'm one-step away from food stamps. he's our only chance!
I find it difficult to believe that "Steve former democrate [sic]" was ever a Democrat since he is unable to properly spell the name of the party.
Alan A
Maybe Steve is a former wooden shipping container for demos?
Mitt's ideas to improve the economy are to let the poor (people earning under $200K) go under when they come upon hard times. Then the rich can buy us out cheaply, profit from and extend our hardship so they can to keep consolidating and controlling the USA's wealth/power. Trickle-down economics=peeing on the 99%
bull@!$%#. what are the rich going to buy out?? the government only benefits when you make money and can pay taxes.
I was recently laid-off in a corporate takeover, only to find out that after 30 years of solid work contributing 25% of my income in taxes I am entitled to six weeks, yes Weeks of unemployment compensation. But I guess I shouldn't feel like a victim...only you government moochers can do that! Fortunately I own my house so the 1% and the banks I bailed out cannot steal it from me. Unless I can't find a job in six weeks and can't pay my taxes-then the government will circle their vultures. What a Country!
sorry to hear...but good attitude. but apply for foodstamps. they're the new cool. free food...you can get lobster tails. hope you find a job soon. vote for romney and you might.
dig@!$%#,
You are lost. The fox news site is that way >>>>>>>>
Am I the only one who thought the "You poor, misled souls" comment was creepier than the food stamps bit? When conservatives break out the religious rhetoric is usually when I find a shelter somewhere.
Rachael Idiot Maddow needs to drag thru the streets like Chris Stevens I don't know how she even has a show, she is such a stupid b!tch !!! she can't even talk in complete sentences I have yet to see her say the truth any time I have had the misfortune to view her show, she is the reason I am now voting for Mitt, he should use her show clips to win over voters thanks Mr. maddow
A.MEN! i can only stand to listen to her for about 18 seconds. and then start cussing....go mitt
Dear Goat-raping child molesters Steve and digidana,
You were never a Democrat. No Democrat would ever suggest that another human being should be drug out and killed because you don't like their tv show. Only vile freakshow Republicans would say something that. And you know who else is a "stupid b*tch," Stevarino? Your disgusting white trash mother who obviously failed to raise you to be a decent human being considering what an obvious sack of @!$%# you are right now. As for you digidumb, if you won't watch Rachel for more than 18 seconds WHY THE HELL ARE YOU TROLLING HER MESSAGE BOARD ALL DAY YOU DUMBF*CK TROLL!?!?!?!?
Only 39 more days of troll pay!
Rascists? Scum? The name calling is immature and counterproductive. I am a registered Indepedent, self employed woman who is voting republican this year. I say look at Greece if we want to see where we will be if we don't rein in spending. Certainly continuing the same trajectory will result in increased taxes for all of us.
I also say start watching multiple news sources so that you are well informed. It takes watching several news outlets to get a well rounded view of the world. I don't like to be spoon fed someone elses political view, it's a shame that news has become commentary.
How much is a "fair share" for people to pay? All of it would not make a dent in our debt. Only spending changes and doing the tough work will make a difference. I'm 54 and I get this. It will effect me. There is earned income and there is investment income. People use earned income that they have already paid taxes on to reinvest. So how much are we going to tax it again?
Voter ID... the first time that I voted, I was surprised that I didn't need to show my ID. I am accustomed to showing my ID for a variety of different reasons. When a bank requires an ID in order to cash a check, do we say that they are suppressing someone's ability to participate in the US commerce system? No, we recognize that it is a reasonable expectation that in a variety of situations, you will need to verify that you are who you say you are.
I pay 100% of my health insurance. I know what health care reform has done for me so far. My premiums continue to rise. I now can only afford a high deductible policy.
@Lisafp - it's precisely because many of us on this board do take advantage of a wide variety of news sources that we aren't buying what Romney/Ryan is selling. I won't try to sway you with facts, but I certainly hope you look more into how Ryan's plan to privatize Medicare will affect you in the future. At 54, you're under the threshold of the "55-year-olds" Ryan says his plan won't affect.
Lisafp
You do know part of the reason Greece is in the mess it is in the the wealthy avoid paying taxes through corruption and bribes do you? Really do you know the whole picture? I suggest you read more and blog less.
As an addendum.
I am solidly middle class. Not elite in the least. Just listening and paying attention. I need to pay my bills and balance my budget. I expect that the government should be prepared to do the same.
rachael maddow is an idiot and plain stupid b!tch! she can't talk in complete sentences, doesn't know what the real truth is if it was slapped into her ugly face. and she gonna make light of the massarce in Lybia ? She should Be dragged thru the street Like Chris Stevens. How does she even have a show? Every time I have the misfortune of watching her show I feel ill, She is the reason I am voting for Mitt, he should use clips of her show to sway voters his way. thanks Mr. maddow
She, or should I say he, or should I say 'it' ...... should have that vapid smirk wiped off her beastly mug. Looking at that thing makes me want to vomit.
Man, you are REALLY fixated on images of violence against women, aren't you? I wonder how many women you've raped in your life. Of course, I'm sure you'd say that "the b*tch was asking for it," wouldn't you? I think I'll start calling you "Steve former rapist" from now on. Or maybe I should say "Steve former rapeist" in keeping with your generally sub-literacy.
Romney and the 1% live by the mantra that "More than enough's a good place to start".
just thinking back. i'm 45....born in 1966, graduated HS in 1984. growing up, we had a really tight budget. no extras. shrimp for dinner was a big time treat. but going on any kind of assistance was the last resort. dad would work late hours and mom would work two jobs to keep us fed and happy. now the norm is unemployment and food stamps. pride is left on the way side because everybody has an ebt card. its not a last resort, its a destination.
You live in a fantasy world where everyone except you and the members of your oh-so-virtuous tribe is a dirty moocher living off of the food stamps that you're too precious to ever need. Have you ever shopped at Wal-Mart? Or a fast food restaurant? Have you ever eaten @!$%#ING LETTUCE?!? If so, then you too, have been mooching off of food stamps, because the only reason those places can sell you goods and services so cheaply is that they don't pay a living wage to their employees. Instead, they pay slave wages and then provide their employees with paperwork to apply for government benefits. If lettuce pickers were paid a fair wage, lettuce would probably go for $10 a head.
These are the same kids living in their parents basement and USING those food stamps. Ha ha, losers who will never get a job. Enjoy your lot in life suckers.
@June. "I won't try to pursuade you with facts"??
Certainly knowledge of math facts reveal that entitlement programs as they stand right now are unsustainable over time. Those facts would be rather challenging to ignore.
And yes, at 54 I get that my benefits will be altered. I'm not willing to kick the can down the road to future generations. I recognize that we need to do the hard work now.
Do the math...the American people cannot sustain the trajectory that we are on. Both parties contributed to getting us here.
I'm interested in those who are willing to face up to it and address it, even at the price of not getting re-elected.
I wouldn't put it past Republicans to bring in their own protesters, pretending to be Obama supporters just to make it look like Obama is attacking poor little Mittens, who just wants to use his experience at dismantling companies to dismantle America, and harvest the profits for 8 years......just like at Bain
