Will Romney's wealthy backers move on to other races?
With 35 days to go before Election Day, Mitt Romney's trailing, but President Obama's advantage is hardly insurmountable. If Romney can catch a few breaks and convince his backers to stick with him for another five weeks, anything's possible.
Fox Business, however, reports that major Romney donors are showing signs of giving up.
The Romney campaign is experiencing what some officials believe could be the beginning of a mass exodus of big money donors diverting their cash away from the Republican presidential hopeful and toward Republican candidates for the House and Senate races more likely to win in November, the FOX Business Network has learned.
It's worth emphasizing that the evidence, at least for now, is entirely anecdotal, and nothing has been quantified. Fox Business talked to "a major player in Romney's New York fundraising circles," who confirmed that some donors have "backed away from financial commitments" to instead focus on congressional races, but we don't yet have a sense of the full impact.
The same report quoted "another person with direct knowledge of the matter" who said the donor shift "is more geographically broad based, and reflects an increasing degree of anxiety."
"This isn't just a New York trend," this person said. "It's beginning to occur all over the place."
If accurate, the so-called "exodus" would be easy to understand. There is a real threat that Republicans, if they invest heavily in the presidential race that's slipping away from them, could lose the opportunity to make GOP gains in the House and Senate.
It seems premature for the Republican donors to simply give up -- Romney's deficit in national polls this week is only a few points -- but the tipping point may be near.

Gee, GOP BIG MONEY walking on to "greener pastures" - I'm shocked I tell you, just shocked! LMAO!! Bye-bye Mitt.
.
That joker in Vegas is still irked that after the crash Obama said how we don't need to ebe peeing away our money in Vegas.
Barry was right.
Does seem that as long as we keep at it, and keep getting help from the Romney camp, we'll have a No-Term Romney.
the Reps should retreat, regroup and consentrate on keeping what they already have.
Do you think their that smart?
I don't.
I think the Republican is going to allow the Connie Red to continue driving the Party. And the Connie Red has well shown themselves to have t have everything their own way.
It wouldn't surprise me if Connie Red destroys the Rep Party.

Oops, no time to do a spell check.
Is Obama still trolling for yard sale money?
Is that the best you can come up with today Shooter? Reality starting to sink in?
More than likely Shooter is having a melt down.
Aw come on we haven't seen shooter around in a few days . I was getting tired of his alter ego , our favorite blot on western civilization , Danny Boy Kerr
Absolutely, Bull. All of his campaign workers are volunteers. Unlike Romney, who not only has to pay them but pay them top dollar.
Shooter,
I’m curious; how many hours of work would you have to put in to pay for one of Romney’s dinner?
Me? Being one of those 47%ers it would be 5,000 hours, that is two years, five months, and one week, for one dinner that cost $50,000/plate. And your idol has contempt for me? Who puts in more hours for their money the 47% or the 1%?
You may spend a lot of hours but you (like Obama) have never worked a day in your life -- at least according to the "never had to make payroll" standard.
"Absolutely, Bull. All of his campaign workers are volunteers. Unlike Romney, who not only has to pay them but pay them top dollar"
And bonuses D.C. Romney paid them bonuses too. I have never heard of a campaign worker getting a bonus
Nobody worth having works for wages only. Look at the most productive sector of the US economy: Wall Street. Even when they're losing money in the greatest financial collapse since 1929, they had to pay honking bonuses or the people who make the world's economy run would have left.
I am worth having and I work for wages only. IMO thoses people who melted down the economy were the ones not worth having.
Maria, please have your sarcasmometer recalibrated.
D.C.
shouldn't you have a sarcasm gauge on your post? ;-)
I suspect that TV ads are not all that effective. Overload/tune out, MEGO.
As Joe Biden says, "all politics is personal", so grass roots, door to door campaigning sways more voters than advertising.
That is where Obama has an advantage over Romney. Store fronts and phone banks, "walking around" money.
The advantage of a million $10 donors is once they have "invested" in you, then they are more likely to pony up an additional donation. Or two.
There was the article the other day that people are not buying into Willard's extracted sound clip strategy ala "You didn't build that " Bump in the road etc. Gee I wonder why? One 5 second clip vs 20 minutes of lazy shiftless 47% .
I am one of those $10 guys When I get pissed click I through $10 (well actually $11) They engineered it perfectly also with one click once your information is in ,...verrrry Smart.
Not to mention, their vote for you! From each donor: 10 million $10 donations = 10 million potential votes; 1 $10 million donation=1 vote.
I was going to reply to Day with the same idea.
sick-n-
That's what I do too. Though for $3.00-$5.00. It all adds up that's what hooter (I call him that because he's only one boob) doesn't understand. Many with little can be mighty.
Nothing sweeter than to see Adelson, Trump, and the Koch brothers get negative ROI on their White House investment.
The money that is not given to Romney is going to go to other Republicans and Dems who can be purchased. This is how the system is gamed. Some of the money will go to Dems from the special interests who are hedging their bets. Some Blue Dogs are really Green Dogs in disguise.
Congressmen are cheaper by the dozen.
So tell me folks just how you feel about out of state money buying up your States reps? Kind of destroys the whole idea of representation don't it?
